Xantrex: inability to update firmware [updated]
SeaDawg replied to Jim_Oker's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I think this is a two edged sword. Writing down serial numbers for low cost, low failure items is probably a,waste of time. However, just for inventory control, I'd want to record items above $40 or so. If it were me, (and it was, in another place, another time.) Honestly, every warranty item over $50, with the exception of FanTastic vent fan (the pre-dometic acquisition), requires a model and serial number, when asking for warranty repair. A few, like my mom's deLonghi portable ac, required a photo of the plate. I'd have to weigh the time and cost, as a manufacturer. The only time you need the info is a failure. Most items don't fail during warranty, or, the label is clearly visible. Or, to troubleshoot, you have to go look at it, or pull it, anyway. Ask me that again, next time we have to go up 14' and look at a ceiling fan. π -
And, now. I hope no one here put any money down. Owner arrested for securities fraud. https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/uslg/SecArticle?guid=15027333

Bella Coola BC, can you get there with an Ollie?
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
And, both were too much for this teenage girl, or so thought Mom and Dad. Enter my six squirrel Maverick. A much less powerful ride, for the rest of high school and college. Lol. Good news, couldn't really go fast enough to get an expensive ticket, which I could not have afforded. I was the older sister. Taught all the young ones (but the youngest) how to drive a manual in the Maverick. Hence, clutch replacement in 4th year...π Dad helped me with that , though. Probably grateful that I gave the lessons, instead of him. -

Yes. My mom had the galaxy 500, upgrade from her little Falcon, but still 3 on the tree. Another great Ford landyacht. π Lots of power. Just not as luxe as dad's Ltd. -

Lots of great memories for you, and one for me, too. I passed my first driving test in my dad's LTD landyacht. Great car. -
Welcome to the forum. We (surprisingly) don't have that many full timers anymore. In the first 10, I think we had two or three. We'll look forward to all your insights.

You probably already saw this, but I'll put the link here for others: https://explorenorth.com/library/roads/bc_driving_routes.html Not all have the really great photo albums, like this https://explorenorth.com/library/roads/hwy37photos.html -
So, there's a new player out there in RV AC-- GE. 13,500 and 15,000 btu models. A few rv manufacturers are using them in new units, so we should have some meaningful reviews soon. I found a few on GE's own website, very mixed on noise level, and too many reviews stating the 15k stopped working after a couple months. 13.5k had only a handful of reviews, most very good. To be fair, many of those saying the ac was noisy were new to rving. Many who said it was relatively quiet had owned rvs before. No decibel ratings that I could find, anywhere. https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/Exterior-RV-Air-Conditioner-15k-ARC15AACB https://rv-pro.com/features/ge-appliances-makes-inroads-rv-segment/

Bella Coola BC, can you get there with an Ollie?
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
For those who've never heard of Bella coola-- https://explorenorth.com/library/roads/bella_coola_hill.html We've driven some interesting roads in Norway and Iceland, but not with a trailer in tow. Having to back around a curve in a one way road to give way to uphill is interesting enough in a passenger vehicle. Not very "interesting " to me, with a trailer in tow . -
Bella Coola BC, can you get there with an Ollie?

We actually tried to get on the ferry to Bella Coola, one trip several years ago. There wasn't room for us, in a motorhome, and a friend with a truck and trailer. The ferry isn't huge, and supply trucks get priority, I think. Like your wife, I wasn't crazy about it, either . But, we met some really nice people from Bella Coola on another trip. It's very beautiful, so they say. You could always drive it in a truck first, no tow. See what you think. -
He probably did. Or didn't. π Most people here weigh their answers with their experience.

Hi, Kathie. Glad you and Melanie had a safe trip home. With retirement around the corner, and the Canadian border opening, the world is your oyster.

I'm really happy for you. So glad everything is working out as you want, and there's more camping time, to boot! -
A number of us here share that sentiment....

Thanks, Mike. You've posted that before, and I forgot about it. This time, I put the 5 lb latches in my amazon cart before I forget again. -
Some tiny seeds are falling this week, and light rain pretty much every night. Two mornings in a row, I've cleaned the two x 100 watt portable panels with a soft cloth, and doubled my (very small) output from 1.6 to 3.3 amps. Somewhat surprising what a difference some tiny seeds and small raindrops can make. Guess I'll go down to the barn and get a stepstool and the string mop, and clean the fixed panels while I'm at it.

And, a nice wrapup to summer camping season
-
Agreed. But those won't plug into the 12v socket on the outside of my trailer. The Fantastic breeze, will, though. And the littler 12v makita, if you cut the cord, and add the plug. Just wanted to make people aware. We have a sizeable stock of 18v makita batteries, but not 12v.

Contemplating Trip to Waco, TX Aug. 1-9, 2021
SeaDawg replied to IL_Travelers's topic in General Discussion
Door county will be so beautiful, and likely very pleasant weather. Enjoy! -
π It's an odd shade, indeed, but matches most of the Makita power tools in our garage. π(They're 18v, though, so the fan requires different batteries and charger.) We are a little partial to makita blue, because of the longevity of the tools. We like them so much that we've given them as Christmas presents to friends, and our daughter . Seriously, the Endless Breeze fan is nice, but pretty big (15 x 15 or so). And corded, though 12v. It does a good job of blowing the gnats away . Caframo fans have a huge following in the marine world. Probably can't go wrong with their fans. Not quite so, with their heaters. I think more efficient, from a power consumption standpoint, than the fantastic breeze, now labeled dometic.

Xantrex: inability to update firmware [updated]
SeaDawg replied to Jim_Oker's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
@Jim_Oker I'm really sorry this has been so frustrating for you. I tried googling e20 again, expecting suggestions to come up on sailing and cruising forums that I use, and I got nothing. I sincerely hope this was a short term, isolated problem, and sorry it happened to you. And Susan. -
Beautiful!
-
That Makita fan looks like a really nice option, especially if you have other makita tools that use the same 12v battery, (vacuum, led worklight, etc.)

Alaska and BC planning for September, need some info

Have a great time. The Yukon is our favorite camping area. -
Not a stalker.. Leave a,sticky note on the door. Most of us will show our trailers, even though travel conditions are not showroom. We've stayed hours beyond planned departure at a campsite, showing ours. π
