2 5/16" Bulldog Hitch Available for Oliver Elite II
SeaDawg replied to Dale C's topic in Towing an Oliver
@Dale C, you haven't offended anyone. If you can fly planes, you'll quickly learn to tow an easy tow trailer like our Olivers. Seriously well balanced. The wdh is pretty much just to meet truck towing specs, imo. 2" to 2 5/16 is a matter of personal preference, imo. (Or, cool factor, for some.) That's a decision you'll have to make. Fortunately for me, we have an Elite I, which requires no wdh with either of our half ton trucks, because it weighs less than 5000 pounds. We've never needed, nor wanted, a wdh. I sincerely hope you enjoy your travels and camping as much as we have, for the last 14 years. These 14 years have been awesome, for us. -
I mounted ours on the sidewall of the microwave cabinet, inside the door, under the switches. We were really happy to receive ours. The early hulls, like ours, didn't get one originally.

2 5/16" Bulldog Hitch Available for Oliver Elite II

I agree,, @mossemi. A lot of youtubers and influencers get free product in exchange for reviews. I watched a video today from fast lane, clearly sponsored by gen y hitch, but they did say so at the beginning. The better ones let us know they're sponsored. Some don't, and others have no sponsors. Somewhere in the comments, Mr Truck said this, though he didn't specify what he considered to be light or heavy trailers: Yes, I'm a nerd, and I read comments. -
Liana, I'm sorry to hear you're hitting deadends. I was really hoping you'd find something that would work for you. We passed by a sailboat last weekend with a vertical axis wind turbine. My guess for wind speed was 8 to 10. We were sailing downwind of them, maybe 150 to 200 yards, and I was mildly surprised that I couldn't hear their spinning generator. Of course, it sparked yet another discussion about the noise and inefficient production of wind generators in our cockpit. Was your original question because you need more power, or just to take advantage of the "free" wind at night? I suspect your new portable set may be able to give you everything you need. I hope so.

@MobileJoy, I bought a similar gorilla ladder at homedepot black friday special for $99. We both like it, as I can actually carry it (our little giant is just too heavy for me to move around safel.), and the 1a rating is ok for us. I like the rungs, and the versatility, but I doubt we'll carry it in the truck because of its size. @Mountainman198, I really like the weight of the Werner you bought. And, that it fits under your cover. I'll be watching for one.
-
No worries. I, too, would like to hear some comments from folks who have used them a year or three. Ladders are getting more expensive all the time. We watch for black friday specials, if we can wait.

This thread? Or this? I'll look forward to people who've used any of them.

Does anyone know what wet lead acid battery Oliver us using now as the "included" base option?

I'm either time traveling, or hit with another wave of nostalgia for the old days. Here's another link where some of the original 2008/2009 owners discussed what they thought could be improved in newer models. Cupboard doors came up often, and a lot of folks were envious of the elite 2 style doors. Who did your axle install? Did you get a new axle, and what rating? PS also looking forward to more photos of your trailer. Like a timex, these original Ollies just "keep on ticking" along the miles and years. We camped again last year with original 2009 owners. Their trailer still looks pristine. Mine, not quite pristine, but pretty darn fine for 2008. I applaud you for bringing yours back! Have fun, and make it yours.

Hi, Sarah, and welcome to the forum! I'm glad to see your Ollie in such beautiful condition, and back on the road. Brandi Shaffer replaced her sliders in #10. (The adorable red Jellybean). She had new doors manufactured locally. I think she went over the molded plastic trim rings. We used an Ikea flip up door when we converted the microwave cavity to a big cupboard. You can see some pictures and discussions in the thread below. No, I don't think you'd ruin your Oliver by changing out the doors. Many of us enjoy personalizing and modifying our Ollies.

@DunnYet, could you try loading a photo directly from your iphone, just for grins? I think John's suggestion has merits, though sometimes (quite rarely) iPhone photos post sideways or upside down...🙃 Maybe there's an issue with the manipulation from iPhone to windows. It could narrow down the possibilities.

Good memory, @ChrisMI. I've seen this battery in someone else's post, but I can't find it now. I'm pretty sure Mike d replaced his lead acid batteries right after delivery with lithium, without ever really using them. @Ralph Mawyer, did Oliver tell you to use an agm profile for charging (no equalization) or normal lead acid profile (periodic equalization). And, if they actually can be topped off with water? I thought sla meant truly sealed, but vented? I've not used sla batteries, so I really don't know, but I'm quite curious.
-
It's one of those venn diagram things. All agm batteries are sealed lead acid. All sealed lead acid batteries are not agm. To put your mind at ease, I'd suggest you open a service ticket with your question. And, a photo of your batteries, or the product code. It's a legitimate question.

Towing Report: 2022 Subaru Limited + 2022 Elite I
SeaDawg replied to DunnYet's topic in Towing an Oliver
I'm going to forward this to our admin, and start a new thread to see if others are having similar issues. I moved your detailed response to the new thread. -
I split this from another topic so that others might notice it, and respond if they are also having difficulty attaching photos to their posts. @Trainman and @DunnYet, what type of devices and browser are you using? Perhaps we have a glitch in our software? I'm using an android phone, and Chrome, and haven't experienced any issues. I'm curious if other members are also having problems attaching photos. Thank you.

Seriously, need to keep the toilet blade valve and seal lubricated. Rv antifreeze is perfect, wherever you live. Water is fine, if you can check it frequently, and you're in a temperate climate. Don't let it dry out.
-
I leave our trailer with a bit of rv antifreeze in the bowl, because it doesn't evaporate as readily as water. We leave camco valve seal in the tanks. I live in Florida.

I'm confused about the furrion adaptor. Do you have a furrion port? Oliver installs zamp port, ordinarily.
-
@Boudicca908, I couldn't honestly recommend the Badlands for tent camping. I think you made a wise decision. But, it's a great place in a hard sided rv. I grew up in the Midwest. Weather can indeed change rapidly. A weather radio is a wise choice for camping anywhere, but especially helpful in the Miidwest.

Towing Report: 2022 Subaru Limited + 2022 Elite I
SeaDawg replied to DunnYet's topic in Towing an Oliver
Yes, thank you. We in the Elite crowd are a minority, and reports are hard to come by. The weight of the ascent and a reasonably loaded Elite seem to be a good match. My brother just bought a gas Maverick, and loves it. I'm still skeptical of this as a tow vehicle, but as a daily driver, he lives it, and the mpg. If we do get to Minnesota this summer, I'll see if we can do a test tow with his truck. It would be fun. -
The first powered dolly we bought, the ez tug, was mounted to the tongue, and the leg and wheel could swing up for travel. It felt stable, but it was underpowered, the wheel went flat. We use a parkit360 now. An older model, without a brake. The frame mount would likely make it more "stable" feeling. I should look into buying that accessory. Dropping the trailer onto the parkit is always a "hold my breath" moment for me, as it's so low. We have the lighter Elite.

Well, 40+ years into boat ownership, I can't name that caulk, from a photo. I'd ask Oliver what they used. PIiant isn't necessarily bad. Good caulk needs to flex like the trailer hull. I'll reserve other comments til you find out what they actually used.
