Length of Sewer Pipe Extension Needed
Mike and Carol replied to aquestell's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I can’t answer with a specific number since our trailer is over in the storage. But, the way I do it is to keep the sewer hose connected all the time while we’re on the road. With the recess it allows storing the hose in the bumper without disconnecting. If you brought the pipe out further you’d have to disconnect in order to close the bumper. It makes it easy when we have a FHU site to just drop the bumper and connect to the campsite sewer. Mike -
Wow! I’m sure that there is some snow fatigue this late in the year. Hope you get a nice thaw soon! Mike

Welcome to the group! Looks like you are just a short drive to our rally location. If you can, come on down and meet some owners! Mike

Airstream is going fiberglas with the Nest.

Some dealers have them already. The Airstream dealer in Buda, TX has a couple. Mike -

I like all the windows. Don’t like rear door, most campgrounds not set up for rear doors. Manual front jack for that much money? Time will tell if the quality is there. Airstream has some QC issues. I’ll stick with Oliver. Mike -
Ours also works pretty well with AT&T. It works best when you are close to the inside antenna. Have you checked to see if you have any red lights on the booster? Mike

Converting a twin to king or at least space between the middle
Mike and Carol replied to Going's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Just enough to prevent any lateral movement. -
Interesting... our towel bar isn’t crap and really works well as a towel bar. It hasn’t fallen off and is still tightly mounted. We also have a command hook above it for the microfiber towel we use to wipe down the shower after we squeegee. Mike

Fort Sill! My dad was artillery and I spent much of my youth at Sill and in Lawton. I was staioned there in the early 80’s when i was a young signal officer. My brother was FA and was staioned at Ft. Sill a lot. Small world. Mike

No-Drill install of Camco door handle

Nicely done! -
Bingo! I pulled the insulation back and sure enough there is foil on the top side. After I put the antenna on top of the insulation my reception went way up and had no drops in an hour of listening. So, I just used a piece of duct tape to tape the antenna to the fiberglass bottom of the roof behind the Oliver sign and then repositioned the insulation. Mike

Converting a twin to king or at least space between the middle
Mike and Carol replied to Going's topic in General Discussion
I did something similar. The space between the twin beds is 18” X 51”. I cut three 19”X 17” rectangles from 3/4” ply wood to sit on the fiberglass frame. I cut a 1/8” X 1/2” lip so there is no movement, there’s 1/2” overhang on each side. A piece of high density 6” foam is level with the 8” mattresses. The three pieces of wood are small enough to store easily when not in use. We can also use one of the rectangles as a table between the beds when we’re in the twin bed mode and watching TV or reading. Mike -
We leave our fridge on all the time. Our travel/home time is about 50/50 so we just leave it running since we have 20a at our storage. Mike

What the CEO did is disturbing. He appears to be trying hard to make up for it. I’ve been happy with my hitch. When it started to groan they sent me a new sleeve. I couldn’t remove the ball to put the new sleeve in so they sent me a whole new assembly. No charge. As far as I’m concerned they are responsive and stand behind what they sell. Mike

Dexter E-Z Flex Lubrication

The tube was not empty, not sure how much is left. The zerks in the middle are hard to see so I pumped until I could feel grease coming out, probably overdid it but too much is better than too little Mike -
Steve, this is where I was thinking about putting the antenna. Thanks for the pic! Tomorrow I’ll test it between the insulation and the hull. I didn’t think there was any metal in that white insulation. If your spot works back there then the reception must be adequate and should work for a radio.
-
Good suggestion! I did a several hour test this afternoon. With the antenna in the attic (various spots) I had reception about 70% of the time. Never had max bars. Then, I snaked it out the back window and put it on the top of the spare tire cover. Max bars, reception 100% of the time. Then I moved it to the bottom ledge of the back window, inside, and also had good reception. I’m thinking outside will be best. Steve, this is what I was thinking after my afternoon test. I don’t have a camera but was planning to drill on the flat part of the roof behind the Oliver sign. I was going to glue the antenna to the roof but I like the idea of the steel plate. I’ll drill some test holes in some scrap wood to see what the smallest hole that would allow the jack to slip through. Mike

My 2016 Ram 1500 came with Goodyear’s. I replaced them after a year with Michelin Defenders. I thought I’d be putting Michelins on the trailer when my BF Goodrich tires wear out, but they’ve been a pretty good tire, so we’ll see. I agree that slower speeds and a good TPMS significantly increase the safety margin. Mike
