  1. I don't care! Cold is cold and at 22 degrees being outside in the snow is no fun. On the other hand - a couple of runs down the hill will get the heart pumping. Grab a board and hit the waves for me - please. Bill
  2. RVK - What year is your Ollie? In the "older" models the water inlets are on the streetside away from the furnace and are, therefore, subject to freezing. Unfortunately, if this happens then it is very possible that the check valves might be damaged. Bill
  3. I'm not a golfer - but - isn't it time to go over to the course and hit a few balls? I just got in from using the snow blower on the driveway. Its just about stopped snowing with about 5 - 6 inches on the ground. Current temp is down to 22 degrees. Note that the "normal" high for this date is 54. Time to get out the saucer and take a couple of runs down the hill!🥶 Bill
  4. At 10:00 am Saturday morning we have about 4.5 inches of snow. Temps are falling - 27 degrees at 7:00am and 24 degrees at 10:00 am. Before you start to laugh - please remember that this is the "sunny" South, home of "Rebels" and Moonshine.😃 Bill
  5. Current forecast for here in western North Carolina is for the mountain peaks (i.e. elevations above 3500 feet) to get 12 + inches. For the rest of us 4 to 8 inches. And, THIS is the south! Those who live on the coast all the way up through New England will also get hit. Two weekends in a row - we are on a real "roll". Bill
  6. I'm not experienced with "shrink wrap" - particularly on a fiberglass RV. CalMark covers are relatively expensive but are used by many of us. I've used a CalMark cover for the past ten years and have had zero issues with mold, mildew, scratching, etc.. There are a number of threads and posts here on the Forum in this regard. Good luck. Bill p.s. Perhaps additional information might help in any advice you might receive here - is your storage near the water (salt water)? Is it protected in any way from the wind, is the storage in a "dry" area , on pavement or on gravel or grass? Is there electric available - for heat and/or dehumidifying?
  7. I just read Mountainoliver's thread "Check your leveling jack feet" and was reminded about the story a friend of mine told me last week. He lives in Colorado and was cross country skiing to a high altitude lake to ice fish when he noticed that his Garmin Mini was missing. Even though he skied back the same way he didn't find his Garmin and considered it lost. About a week later he received a call from a fellow that found it and he got it back. The reason he lost it was that the screw/bolt that goes into the rear of the Garmin and attaches a carabiner strap to it had backed out. Upon learning this I checked mine and found that while not tight it was a bit loose. Out comes the blue Loctite and now all is nice and snug. If you have one of these devices - now just might be a good time to check that screw/bolt. Bill

  8. Are you kidding me! First Patriot does the food thing and now you send a pic of one of my favorites. Not fair! Not a lot of difference between that first pic of snow and the second of sand other than (I assume) the temps and work that it takes to clear the snow off. What a contrast. Stay warm! Bill
  9. Just watched the evening forecast for western NC and it is possible that we might get snow (instead of ice) just in time for this coming weekend. Then it looks like the storm will try to travel up the east coast. In any case, frigid temp will continue for almost all of us living in the eastern part of the US. Be careful out there everyone! Bill
  10. So - Now I know why Krunch always complains that her bed gets wet!😁
  11. Woof - woof!🐶
  12. Anybody else up at that hour other than an "old" pilot guy?👍 I'll bet that it is warmer there (than western NC) too. Bill
  13. As of this morning at 9am the area around Brevard, NC has been basically spared from what the forecasts were calling for. We received only about 1/4 inch of ice (so far) but there is still freezing rain falling. Even though the lights have "flickered" a time or two, we still have power. It is forecast to continue with the freezing rain until around noon and then turn to regular rain until about 6pm. I've not seen how the rest of the State of North Carolina is doing and can only hope that areas west and north are doing OK with this storm. Bill
  14. Yes - poor wording on my part. Perhaps what I should have said was that there might be a malfunction in the wiring system that would (intermittently) cause the brake on that one wheel to engage. And, possibly, that could be inside the axle wiring. Better? Bill
  15. I didn't like the huge ones that some have used. So, I simply got a 3 of them at WalMart like THESE. Bill p.s. I put one under the bath window, a second exactly opposite it just before the front door and a third right on the nose of the trailer - all three are right at the belly line. Also, mine are white - not the grey shown on the Amazon link.
  16. HERE is a YouTube video on this exact subject that I stumbled across. I'm not too sure as to how stable this guys "roof" will be but it packs down nicely. Good luck! Bill
  17. Rolind - Another possibility is that there is a short in the brake wiring. Several owners have noted wiring issues with the brake wires that are run inside the axle. I'd guess that the RV tech didn't check this and even if he did there is no certain way of checking this without pulling those wires out of the axle. Having said this - your Ollie is relatively new compared to those (that I'm aware of) that have had this issue. But, it is one more thing to be aware of. Bill
  18. I have no clue to what you're saying but it really sounds neat!😅 Bill
  19. rideandfly - Given the temps that are forecast, when we had a heat pump we would have been on "emergency/backup heat" which didn't use the external heat pump unit. However, with one of those newer "fancy" units, they work at lower temps than ours did. If that is what you have and the forecast for sleet/ice is correct then I'd also do what you are thinking. Obviously, you should give the "tarp" or whatever you use on the top good enough support - sleet/ice is heavy, particularly in the amounts that is forecast. Bill
  20. Good news (at least for the more southern states) it appears as though the storm track has moved a bit further to the north. Bad news (at least for the southern states) this could mean more ice down there.😮‍💨 Bill
  21. Yep - Just heard from a friend in State College, PA that they are expecting 11 to 12 inches. But -11 to 12 inches is much different in PA as compared to VA, TN, SC, NC who (for the most part) do not have the equipment, personnel or infrastructure to deal with these things. Be careful out there. Bill
  22. Probably most members and readers of the Forum are aware of the "brewing" winter storm that is forecast to hit the southern states this weekend. But, for those that are not - it is forecast to start Friday over in the mid to northern Texas area and move through Oklahoma and Arkansas. Then on Saturday morning it moves over Tennessee, the northern part of South Carolina, and North Carolina. Continuing through Saturday and well into Sunday the storm then moves slightly north before exiting off the coast in the mid Atlantic region. While totals of snow are as high as 18 inches, it is the ice that will cause many problems - downed power lines and roads that are very difficult to clear. For those not familiar with the southern States - many simply do not have the equipment to deal with either the ice nor the amount of snow that is forecast. If anyone and or their Ollie is in this area of the country, NOW is the time to prepare for this storm. Be careful and best of luck to everyone in dealing with all that is to come from a winter wonderland. Bill p.s. HERE is one forecaster's take on the storm
  23. Wish I had a pic of mine - but - no angle metal needed on mine. Good point on the wing nut if your point is to deter a thief. I've found that the wing nut makes things easier to get into and out of (there isn't that much space in that spot). But, then again, I'm not worried about "unauthorized" access to my batteries for a number of reasons. Bill
