  1. That is good info, thanks. I am glad you ended up with an Ollie. John Davies Spokane WA
  2. Did she also look here in the Classifieds? John davies Spokane WA
  3. I see your point, but so what? It is a free and painless process… I don’t see that being any kind of impediment for somebody looking for an Ollie. If they can’t be bothered to join the primary support and sales forum for the brand, they are probably very unlikely to follow through on a purchase anyway. Seriously … They can go jump in a lake IMHO. John Davies Spokane WA
  4. Well, thanks, maybe a current FB member could help me out by posting a Heads Up message and a link to my "Mouse" ad in the FB For Sale group. Is that allowed? I don't want to break my social media abstinence quite yet. I did post on my local Craigslist. That will show up in any nationwide "Oliver For Sale" Google search. Thanks, John Davies Spokane WA
  5. I don't think that anybody looking for an Ollie would neglect to first check the classifieds here in this forum. What would the FB ad do to help the sale? I don't even understand why that group exists. John Davies Spokane WA
  6. I don’t do Facebook or any other social media sites, but I am curious about what they offer that this forum does not? Why should we join them? Thanks. John Davies Spokane WA
  7. Do you know why water heaters have a relief valve? Because otherwise they can explode violently. Consider yourself lucky.… if your shore power switch is on, you probably fried the electric heating element. Those are cheap. The valve should reset after cooling, I am not sure why yours did not. You can buy one at any hardware store. Good luck. John Davies Spokane WA
  8. CV-2 - a very light coating. I wear a disposable glove, and rub a small amount all over and into the metal, after degreasing of course. Brake cleaner works well, with the jack fully extended. John Davies Spokane WA
  9. I don’t see how you would get CV-2 to penetrate properly. Daubing it on the outside wouldn’t work, I suggest this product. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wurth-HHS-K-HHS-Plus-High-Pressure-Lubricant-Aerospray-Can-500ml-16-9-fl-oz/181460891693?pageci=b47ef188-0d0e-40d3-8ef3-c8f45fe1838f&redirect=mobile https://www.wurthusa.com/Chemical-Product/Lubricants/Multipurpose/HHS-Plus-500-ml-(aerosol)/p/0893106026 It goes on runny, penetrates well, then changes to a tenacious solid film. It is pretty amazing, I once has a Trek with a nightmare Nexus 8 speed internal geared hub, I tried the factory lube, all the Internet forum recipes, and none worked worth a flip until I completely degreased it, soaked it in the Wurth lube, and put it back together. It worked like magic with precise lovely “snick snick” gear changes. Thank goodness that bike is gone!! - but I also use it for car door hinges, etc. Really good stuff. I think it would be great on the fan parts. John Davies Spokane WA
  10. When you start a thread about buying a Wrangler diesel “if it could handle the Elite II might use it on shorter camping outings”, then expect some major flak in the responses. You seem to have changed course in the middle of a thread. I think the Wrangler would be fine for moving the Ollie out of storage to wash it, and then back in, but no further. Think “tug” rather than “tow vehicle”. IMHO even the Gladiator diesel is a marginal TV. The big problem IMHO with using a Wrangler for a TV is if you break down in the boonies, you are doubly in trouble. Now you have to figure out how to get both the Jeep and the trailer home. The most sensible setup for a Wrangler heading for the trails is a truck camper pulling the Jeep on a flatbed trailer. Once you have been towed out of the boonies by a buddy, you can easily use the disabled Jeep’s winch to pull it up onto the trailer. That is what you most often see near trailheads. Can you please clarify exactly what you are talking about? I think Wranglers are very cool, but they are relatively fragile. A stock Land Cruiser 200 with LT All Terrain tires will tow your Ollie fairly well, and also go into some mind boggling offroad situations with very minimal risk of busting something expensive. Just say no to Jeeps: 😉 John Davies Spokane WA
  11. For a device intended to go up on the roof, a MaxxFan is an enormous fail in terms of water resistance. That can be fixed, mainly by drilling drain holes so any moisture can drip out. My trim piece was completely sealed around the perimeter after installation, for looks, making it essentially like a refrigerator drip tray! That is bad, the water must get out somehow. This was coming from one of the screws of the trim piece, it had trapped water inside: https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/4003-how-to-maxxfan-remove-and-service-preventive-maintenance-to-avoid-water-damage/ Stuff like this makes you wonder why companies that build accessories and trailers don’t really understand the real world problems of moisture (Oliver included, but a whole lot less so). John Davies Spokane WA
  12. The best place for a satellite device while hiking or biking is in a pouch secured to one of your pack straps up high, near your collar bone. The Mini is a better choice for this use since it will fit into most phone pouches. The full sized one is harder to accommodate. Though these have been out long enough that there are lots of aftermarket options like this cool Backpack Buddy on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1174448909/backpack-buddy-garmin-inreach-mini That looks very cool too. My full sized unit is in a big Camelback phone pouch (from when phones were big); I have used that since I carried a SPOT while dirt biking in the mountains decades ago. Gee that makes me feel aged. The pack is my light duty hike/ bug-out bag (including moderate first aid stuff like clotting agent and inflatable splint, and spare ammo). It always rides in the truck directly behind the driver seat, with the inReach pouch, well… in reach 😉 in case I am in an accident and get incapacitated. John Davies Spokane WA
  13. I lost one, so I ordered two sets of two, $7.34 plus $13.70 shipping! Oh well, $21 for all of them. FYI you can't find these at your local Ace hardware store. Do they still use these on current hulls? John Davies Spokane WA
  14. I was curious, I did not see any type of sealer in the end, just more black plastic. I do not recall the brand, it might be the one that came on my trailer years ago. This has been sitting on my workbench literally for years. I think it is pretty cool, but I do tend to geek out on odd things. John Davies Spokane WA
  15. There is one breaker under the dinette. If the fan is running, then the breaker is fine. You probably have a failure in the air conditioner itself. you will need an RV tech to check it out. Hopefully it is just a loose wire…. Sorry for the bad news. John Davies Spokane WA
  16. FYI, a Garmin month to month subscription can be “paused” at any time, then restarted without penalties. Though it is like a fire extinguisher, you never know when you will need it, so I do not recommend this. Under special circumstances it would be useful. John Davies Spokane WA.
  17. I carry an inReach always, it lives and charges in the Ollie when not in the truck. I send multiple daily pre-set text messages, for example “Routine check, stopped for the night”, and they all go out within a couple of minutes. The roof and walls do not appear to limit the signal acquisition. I did test the location using tape to make sure before installing the charge mount. It was one of my first mods. I also subscribe to the basic $40 Search and Rescue insurance. I am sure that the Oregon rescue mentioned above was an extremely costly one. If I climbed cliffs, I would definitely feel that $300 for the High Risk version was a good investment. Garmin buy SAR ins FYI it only covers one person, the buyer of the policy, if your spouse is with you often, please consider her safety too!!! John Davies Spokane WA
  18. Updated placard, this was done with a label maker. John Davies Spokane WA
  19. How big is the washer? It could be a very cool mod, the water line simply tees into the cold line under the sink. It could drain into the shower pan. If you want to place it on top of the toilet you should definitely install a 1 way check valve so that there is no possibility of contaminating your water supply. Please don’t let it discharge into the campground grass like this guy! Have you seen this? … https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/2758-how-to-wire-cable-clothes-line-full-cabin-length/ I put a Caframo fan in the back, with a rear window open and the MaxxFan running on exhaust, I can point the small one at the clothesline and it greatly speeds up the drying time. Especially with synthetic fabrics. Please post pics of your project! John Davies Spokane WA
  20. Since your springs have the heavy duty hardware, they should last indefinitely with regular servicing, a warning sign that you need to relube is creaks or pops when making tight turns. They should be dead silent otherwise. Keep an eye on the rubber cushions in the equalizers and the shocks, they can deteriorate from sun exposure. (Clean the grease residue off so you can see what’s underneath.) Check all the hardware for correct torque, look for sagging or unusual tire wear. Check for blown shocks, they occur when running too much air in the tires, the LT tires should be set to 50 psi max. Shocks are not expensive and have a lifetime warranty, you should consider just installing new ones, the trailer will ride better. A good degreasing followed by a pressure wash will make them look much better, obviously you must lube them afterwards. While you are underneath with your tools, check the mount bolts for all three jacks, you will definitely find them loose. I have Hull 218, almost as old as yours, here is the belly and suspension after a very intense detail session,on my back, which wore me out 😉 prepping it for sale. Old doesn’t mean bad, on a trailer. The owner is a different story entirely… FYI the equalizer shackles are flipped, that happens after taking off the wheels, they should flip back right away when towing. What hull number? Please add that to your signature. And pictures are always welcome here. John Davies Spokane WA
  21. ***** SOLD to MAX burner. ***** EDIT 06/17/23 - the transfer process went smoothly, just give the CG person the new personal info (name, address, email, phone number) and they will edit the reservation. Three minutes tops. Mods, please move this if necessary, I couldn’t figure out a better place for it. I will not have “Mouse” because she is listed for sale. My wife and I will be camping in a tent on the “poor side of the ditch” in the Grassy Tent Camping Area, so I can still circulate and chat and visit with Ollie owners in the RV Section.. I am selling my 4 night spot for a significant discount. I have talked to the Ladybird Johnson CG office and they approve this process. Buyer will pay me $400 through Paypal or an electronic transfer method of your choice, or send me a check, and give me your full name, address, email and a phone number. I will relay this to their office by phone, and they will change their record for Site 11. Most likely they will send you a receipt, but you might need to call them. They seem a little disorganized. You win, I win. There are no cancellations allowed, but transfers like this are OK up to 30 days prior to the event. Full info can be found here: ….. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/6757-official-april-8-2024-total-solar-eclipse-fredericksburg-tx-rally-only-not-for-general-discussion/ Thanks, John Davies Spokane WA
  22. Hull 218 has a 2000 w inverter and a 250 amp main fuse. I added a 175 amp terminal fuse block to each Battle Born battery. I dislike having unprotected hot wires, even very short ones. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/5377-how-to-battery-feed-through-post-installation-reduce-the-clutter-in-the-battery-box-lithium-batteries-only/ John Davies Spokane WA
  23. Under the dinette, the placard is upside down so you can actually read it with your head that way. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/5450-how-to-battery-master-cutoff-switch-under-the-rear-dinette-seat/ John Davies Spokane WA
  24. That is all very organized, I am pretty anal and it appeals to me. Where do you hang all your coats and outerwear ? My closet is pretty much packed with them, as well as sweatshirts, vests, etc. mostly my wife’s… ;(. If we had to keep all the dishes back there, we would never be able to access them. We mostly drink out of sport bottles with filtered water, and nesting plastic (non disposable) cups. John Davies Spokane WA
  25. WS, that is disheartening. I suspect that my hose is glued at the end under the toilet paper holder, as it should be. It has no clamp on it. As I said previously, remove the fan housing, 2 long machine screws. Easy. Here is my sink area (Hull 218) after some mods, you can see the factory vent hose. My trailer has happy faces all throughout the waste system, on every glued joint, from an inspector. It is rather cute. You should open up that compartment and fix stuff, I am pretty sure you will find it in “disarray”. What is your hull number and tow vehicle? Please add that info to your signature. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/9039-how-to-bath-sink-compartment-mods-duct-rework-insulation-disconnect-flush-line/ You might open a service ticket to see what they say. They might be nice and send you the parts you need, gratis… IF it is a factory installation. John Davies Spokane WA
