The people at OTT are some of the nicest, down to earth people. It would be easy to lose the kindness with a big business and I have known several who have, but they remain good folks.

I love diesels but I do not love what the EPA is doing to them. I have a 2014 Cummins that gets about 25 on the highway, 18 in the city and about 13 towing. This includes stopping, idling and everything in between. Mine is not EPA compliant, however. Personally, if I needed a new TV, I would buy a Ram 2500 with the Hemi. It gets decent fuel mileage and doesn't suffer the ill effects of emission equipment.

Running the Truma AC when boondocking
Jason Foster replied to silversportsman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I use the Cummins 4500i and it works fine for everything in the trailer. Bonus is you can buy two and get 50 amps for home emergency service. -
This looks cool. I like my fiber granite better, but I'm always concerned about scratching the surface. Corian, though heavier, can be sanded and buffed. I would be interested to see what the under-belly storage looks like, though no reason to get extra pictures. I would assume they are similar to the rear bumper storage.

People don't usually approach me with questions. My wife says I scare people because I look grumpy. They talk to her all the time, so I just stand off to the side with my resting cranky face.

Beech lane levelers for for Legacy Elite II
Jason Foster replied to TxMN2020's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I have used my "stabilizers" to level my trailer since I have owned it. They work great and get the job done. However, they are not built for it. If you are in a fairly level place, they will be fine, but once you start hanging the suspension with tires off the ground, you lose stability. In most scenarios, those won't hurt anything. Where it becomes an issue is with lateral trailer movement. At full extension, the stabilizers create tons of leverage which can damage the frame, mounts and even the tubes. I use two types of wheel levelers when I plan on extended stays. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, mostly as inconvenient. The first set are easy to lay down and include a lock wedge to keep your wheels in place but they are big. The second set stack when not in used and assemble to whatever height you want. Once I get leveled, I drop the stabilizers onto a hard block with rubber pad. -
Thanks for the idea. I have been flirting with the problem for a while since rinsing is an easy way to keep the toilet clean. Some of my old rv's had spray wands mounted next to them. This would have been nice from the factory.

Time to review your insurance! RIP hull 686.

I am so glad no one was hurt, at least physically. The emotional trauma will last for a while yet. I have seen so many accidents in my life that they don't even get my heart rate up anymore, but for most people, they are exceptionally stress inducing. I can't wait to see pictures of your new OTT in the wild. -
Newbies Looking for an Oliver and Camping Mentor

Welcome to the family. 🙂 -
Who doesn't love puppies?

I love sailboats. Sadly, my wife and my pocketbook are unwilling.

Try drawing with a pencil and use the watercolors to fill in the spaces.

I had a pump that turn on and off every hour or so. I also thought it was a bad pump. Turned out the toilet flush valve was leaking.

Congratulations and welcome. Hopefully, we can all become friends and join up somewhere for some hotdogs and music.

Jucy's is OK. A much better burger can be found at Bubba's Fat Burgers in Gilmer, TX. My local go to.

Brides are great.

An Elite hull mounted on a FUSO expedition truck tray....?
Jason Foster replied to John E Davies's topic in Ollie Boondocking
It took you SIX years to figure it out? I salute you, sir. -
I came to say something, but Mike said everything I had planned on putting into my post and he did it better than I would have done. I will pull out the one sentence that means the most, "There are Pros and Cons to every class of RV." Match your style of camping to the trailer/MH you want.

I am 6'3" and at 240 lbs, I fit fine. Laying on my back, my head is clear by about an inch or so and the balls of my feet touch the cabinets. This is likely because I am not lying flat, head on pillow and butt sinking into the mattress. It doesn't bother me since I rarely stretch out on the bed. I sleep on my side and 30 inches wide is just about right. The bathroom is cramped but I don't spend much time in there anyway, so I don't care.

I've been planning to throw together a "tool kit" for my Oliver. I have a lot of tools, but I don't want to load up an entire professional automotive set when I will just need a few certain size wrenches, screw drivers, etc. So, I will start inventory on most of the nuts and bolts and select sockets that work. For the other stuff, I have a Kobalt screwdriver set with extension rods and multiple bits. I have never used a torque wrench on electrical connections. I just use the @jd1923 good-nuff technique and I have never had problems. However, if you want to get some tools, I suggest Harbor Freight. I have Snap-on, Matco, and the old Craftsman tool sets before China took them over. They have worked well and lasted about 35 years. They still look new. However, if you don't plan to use these tools professionally, Harbor Freight tools will be fine.

Furnace Duct Modification for Improved Air Flow and Circulation
Jason Foster replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
I have the Truma heater and even though the ducting seems better, it still flows about 80% to the bedroom area and the bath is cold. I will have to pull some things apart when it gets cooler outside. It got up to 100 today with 70 humidity. I could always run the ac I suppose. -
I agree with this. I do not rotate trailer tires. My cattle trailer, horse trailer, cargo trailer, camper trailers and heavy-duty equipment trailer never had their tires rotated and I never had an issue with uneven wear. Now my vehicle tires are another matter altogether.

Furnace Duct Modification for Improved Air Flow and Circulation
Jason Foster replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
There are numerous other "holes" in the basement for air infiltration, but the worst offender is the one right where the dog lays down. Thanks for the idea.
