Twin Bed Riser

The twin bed riser would give more storage space. One concern we have is whether a person could sit on the bed comfortably. Would their legs reach the floor? If you have the twin bed riser, do you like it?

Just go to the main Forum page and type in Twin bed risers in the "search" box.  There are pictures there which show that unless you have some serious height to your legs reaching the floor while sitting on these would be a bit of a challenge (I think).

It also depends on your mattress choice, I would not recommend the risers with any except the thinnest option. We have the 10 inch plush mattresses and no risers. I don't see how that size with risers could possibly be useable. I do like the great comfort but they are excessively tall IMHO.

If I were going solo, I would get a six inch mattress for the curb side only, and put a riser on the street side, with conventional thin cushions for lounging. For hard core trips you could keep the cushions at home and utilize the top of that riser for lots of storage, like bottled water or bulky gear, or a dog bed. With an extra flip down access panel underneath, you could get to the electronics easily (which is not needed very often) and not have to disturb the stuff on the top two layers and then reach down though TWO access ports.

An extra flip down panel would be good on the curb side, but not required if you have the thinner mattress, though it would save you from having to disturb the bedding, at the cost of having to squat or lie down to turn the valves... flipping back the ten inch mattress is more than a little awkward!  Especially on the curb side with the darned fixed tv mount as it comes. With the tv gone, it is a non issue.

We have the risers and we love them. But then again I designed them myself in 2013 during the build of our (then) unfinished Outlaw Oliver in order to have additional storage space for a very specific piece of gear that I wanted to be able to carry. Steve Parsons at Oliver built special molds to make them. Our mattresses are about six inches thick. If you can stand erect in our trailer, when sitting on our beds your feet would not touch the floor.

When Parsons built the molds, I had a specific height requirement but he told me he was designing them so that the piece being made could be cut down to a lower height if someone so desired. Understand that by doing this you would also decrease the amount of under bed storage.  My design specifications resulted in over 13 ft.³ of storage under each bed and has a compartment door that will allow the introduction of an object up to 10 1/2 inches tall.

We ordered the risers after seeing them at the recent Oliver rally.  We placed our order on Tuesday, stuck around for the rally and added about $7,000 of adds Monday after the rally. :)

We may miss the ability to sit on the beds, but I think we'll love the extra storage.  Since they're behind the axles, I purchased a tongue weight scale to make sure we don't get ourselves in trouble.

The nice couple who showed us their risers at the rally mentioned that the total height of the combined bed, riser and mattress put you high enough that you could damage the blinds with your elbows or knees.  They fastened a strip of laminate flooring cut to cover the bottom of the window, fastened to the window frame using something like command strips or Velcro tape.

Our Elite II rolls off the line next Monday, but we won't be able to pick up until July 6th.

  • 2 years later...

Greetings,

I am curious, why did the Olivers stop making the risers? We have dogs and would love to find an Ollie with the risers. I hope I will be able to see yours if it has not sold by August 4th, 2019.

Is there any way to order a new Ollie with risers if we cannot find a previously own one?

Thank you,

Mirna.

You can always plead your case directly to Scott Oliver.  Good luck!

OK,  I give up.  I did a search but am not finding anything specific to the "risers" everyone is talking about.

I do know they made an elevated version of the twins some time back but those have been discontinued.  Is that what we're talking about here?

Hey, Hobo, the elevated twins is exactly what the chat is about. If you go up to the start of this thread, in the third or fourth post down, Steve explained the how and why of his design for the risers/ elevated twins. He and his wife ordered the very first Oliver to come off the line after the production hiatus during the downturn. As the historic first, Oliver accomodated a number of their design mods.

Maybe you'll see their Oliver #50 someday. It's really beautiful.

Hello,

The elevated bed option does not allow you to sit comfortably on the bed (IE, use it as a couch). However it gives you a lot of much needed storage. It's true that the elevated twin bed is no longer offered in an effort to provide a more standard unit. The factory is steering away from custom options.

Our trailer #241 was picked up about 2 years ago and was the last elevated twin bed unit made. If you're interested in a well equipped unit with almost every option offered, contact me. We have made our last trip in it and are in the process of unloading and cleaning and will be offered in almost like new condition. It has been stored inside most of it's life.
