I soiled my myself and clothing many times from residual grease on the hitch ball before addressing the issue. I really, REALLY like this product, mostly because it is clear and won’t stain!

We modify a Truly can (or other narrow beverage cans, Red Bull works) by cutting off the top half of the can and placing the bottom piece over the hitch ball when not connected.  Just pinch the bottom and voila - it stays in place and will aid in keeping one from soiling yourself with ball grease...

Would a "Stella" can work too?  Got plenty of those! 😁

I use a spray can of white lithium grease instead of any "Water Proof" grease.  Reason is that I had not discovered the "Red Bull" can approach (Max Burner's post).  So my use of use axle grease (Pretty much water proof and permanently staining) came with time consuming challenges.

Not to mention that I kept finding myself using Borax abrasives to sand off the grease (and a layer of skin) that always seemed to appear about 24" above ground.  Or the buckets of Dawn dish soap trying to remove those stains from my 7-pocket shorts.

At least lithium white grease is only water resistant and getting stains of me and my shorts is a lot less time consuming when I forget the Red Bull can!

Try a few of the Stella cans and you probably won't care.

Pretty amazing that this six year plus thread is still a valid topic.

Good one GJ, go Red Bull! Actually your quote credited to me, “I’ve been using this grease from Reese”, is that of Frank C. I’m advocating the Mission Automotive Hitch Ball Lubricant. The ‘soiling’  issue as subsided since picking up a trailer ball cover from Academy, works great!

Yeah, but this thread lost all its focus before the end of the first page. Now it's a "What grease is best for my ball" or a "What beer can should I cover my ball with" question.

If anyone wants to continue this line of inquiry, please start a new thread.
