Given I’m spending this kinda money…

I’ll add 40 hours of my labor to make things right!

A detailer can work around these, but with a little extra effort, the overall finish will be much better! 😎

We are not in the market yet, and it would be a drive for sure, but the idea of a "permanent coating" from Master Applied Coatings sure is an interesting story. Spending this money once versus every handful of years would be great.

This past April we went to MAC in Ft Worth. At the time the only coating they offered was marketed as "permanent". The shop declined to do our 2022 because it had some chalky patches. In their recent experience with another Oliver, their coating doesn't prevent the underlying chalky fiberglass to continue flaking off.  Now the only "permanent" coating they sell is for nonporous surfaces like metal and paint.  The website currently shows they have a 3-year coating for fiberglass.

That time limit is pretty consistant with what I learned at Guntersville this past spring.  For some owners who still can wax their OTT's, spending a rather large amount of $$ and amortizing it in just three years is not a positive calculation from their perspective.  Now if the life of the coating were ten years, for me anyway, that would be a game changer.

John, my good friend! I’ve been away from this forum and very busy! Like my new theme? (grey accents to match our graphics and tow vehicle).

Found a local guy. He brought back our pasty 10-year-old hull to looking factory fresh again! Didn’t cost near the CGI advertised price. 😎

I was cleaning and painting parts while it was in the shop and it took me 2 long days to install everything including the new A/C (I removed the old unit, temporarily patched the 14x14” opening so the detailer could clean everything up top!).

Very interesting and different.

Perhaps someone out there in Ollie land has done something similar, but, I've never seen anything close.  Sure does look like a very nice job.

Any idea of what the ceramic guy used for the coating?

Sorry I don’t. Didn’t ask any trade secrets and I’d never do this myself. I figure I’ll just let ‘er get dirty and bring it back for an “annual!”

Is hard for me to believe that its the same OE2 MaxBurner and I saw last summer up above  Alpine AZ.  Are you SURE that your  Detailer didn't snuck in and swapped out your 2017 for a new one?

I haven't been on the forum for awhile but it's funny that this thread was revived recently.  I took my Hull #887 down to Tallahassee this past February (2025) to have MAC put on their permanent coating.  After 6-8 months the coating began to fail on all of the roof and the front of the trailer.  When I got on their website to contact them I noticed the change in their offerings for different surfaces.  I had a little difficulty getting someone to contact me regarding my issue but I finally received a call from one of the owners.  I explained the situation and said that the only acceptable solution for me would be a refund.  He agreed and I received my money back a week later.  While I am disappointed that the permanent coating didn't work out for me I have to say that their integrity is top notch.  He even offered to let me bring the trailer back and have them polish it and remove the coating so I could wax it normally.  Ceramic is great when if you store your vehicles under cover but if you store outside the sun will win in the end.

Great looking restoration and appearance upgrade, and looking forward to details of the new air conditioner install and first impressions! I have a feeling you will be using that scaffolding more often now to keep your Olie lookin’ purdy!
