Design decisions?

FYI about that outside switch, it a poor design in that it is completely unsealed, mine froze in the ON position, locked solid. I have a replacement on order. It too is “backwards” from USA standards, the on position is down. And it is $8 for what should be a $2 component, perhaps because of its unique design.

I am going to mount the new switch upside down so ON is up. Any reason I shouldn’t?

Other than having to stand on your head to operate the switch, I see no reason why it wouldn't work in that position 😇.

We’ve had an indoor switch for the electric side of the water heater in our Oliver since day one, over 10 years ago.

NICE!  We also had one in both of our AS's and also in our 2019 Casita - a convenient touch, IMO.

I’m on my third switch.  I now carry a spare.  Mike

I had a similar switch on a very old second hand ragged out BMW that failed.  It was backward.  Being a poor college kid, I found a switch the same size that was not.  Mounted it upside down and used some black shoe polish to "Erase" the upside down on/off lettering.  Cost me 50 cents.   I was shocked at the price as for 50 cents I could buy almost two gallons of leaded gas!

She said that if I switched it to electricity, and ran the tank dry, and didn't remember the tank was on electricity, it would burn it out.

On our other trailers I just flipped the water heater circuit breaker off when the tank was empty, to prevent that mishap. But here's a thought: on our 2022 the water heater and fridge are on the same 20A breaker. So, we couldn't do that with this trailer.

FWIW, we keep a bright colored magnet attached to the outside of the water heater cover to visually remind us that it is ON. Then, obviously, move it to inside of cover when water heater is turned off.
