  1. Last week before we picked up it was suggested that a "Where's Ollie" thread might be good for folks to post pictures of where they've been, maybe with a few comments about the location. I'll get it going.... This is Hillman Ferry State Park in KY at Land Between the Lakes. Nice campground, with lots of lake water activities. You can get a site right on the lake to fish from!

  2. I had a question from a member this morning on how to delete a duplicate post. Since each of us has likely wanted to fix a post with typos, or delete a duplicate, I thought I would just remind members how to accomplish these tasks. Make sure you are logged in to the forum. Above each of your posts, you'll see a set of buttons including edit, quote, trash, and others. If you would like to edit, click that button. Your post header will have a new background color, and a bold message at the top says "now editing this post". Change your text or add/delete a photo... whatever changes you would like to make, review, and scroll all the way to the bottom to the orange submit button.. To delete your post entirely, go to the post, hit the trash button, and the post will come up with a colored background. Review to make sure this is the post you would like to delete, then hit the delete action button that now appears above the post. If you discover this is not the post you wish to delete, hit cancel. Once you have deleted a post, we cannot bring it back. It's gone forever. Hope this helps some of the new users. The board is fairly intuitive, but I have been asked this question several times, so I thought I'd just put the info out there. Sherry

  3. I think for FaceBook folks having a page to go to is a good thing and it's good to see someone take the initiative to get it going. I see it as a compliment to these forums. I'm not on FaceBook for a number of reasons and don't anticipate joining. But for those who are I hope it works out as hoped! Mike

  4. I don't honestly know, Reed, since I haven't logged into my alternate non mod test account in months. I know what I saw earlier this evening. Quote, thanks, reply, right after I posted my test post. As of about an hour ago, with a new test, I got edit, quote, reply. With which, I am happy. I see a different screen under my mod account. Happy camping. Sherry

  5. Maybe there was a problem today sometime then because I've edited every post that I've ever made and have never not had a choice to edit, add, change pictures and so on after every post. So I circled the Edit/Reply/Quote for you in case you didn't see it the first time or... unless... my account is set up different then canoe12's.

  6. As of a few hours ago, i believe canoe12 was correct. Thanks, quote, and reply were the only buttons available to me when I posted a test under a user / not moderator account I created. I emailed our admin, and i believe he added edit, in place of thanks, I guess, as none of us thank ourselves. I requested editing for 24 hours, as many of us make a few typos, and would like to correct ourselves. 24 hours is the limit on most boards on which I'm a member, and I think that's fair. If you experience a true duplicate post (as many of us have, especially if we hit submit several times , and impatience wins, while waiting for our posts to appear...), or wish to delete your post in its entirety, please pm me or one of the other active mods. I, at least, don't look around for delete messages in the body of a post. If your post has follow up replies, it becomes a tougher zone. My personal feeling is I shouldn't delete follow up comments without permission from all posters. So, if a post becomes a thread, deleting the starter post makes the comments confusing and irrelevant, I likely won't delete it. Please bear in mind that moderators are volunteers, contributing for the love of camping. We are not always available immediately, as we are campers, too, and sometimes, at least in my case, out of touch for days at a time. None of us receive compensation for our efforts. We love camping, love our Olivers, and do the best we can. Thank you for your understanding. Happy camping. Sherry

  7. So, for now, those instructions are useless. I'm sorry.. under the old forum format you could edit or delete your own post for at least 24 hours. I'll see what can be done about that. In the meantime, if you need to delete a duplicate post, pm me. Sherry

  8. Leave me out of Facebook; there is too many security issues involved with it. I have spend many decades in the IT and Telecommunications world and have cleaned up many issues with friends computers that have logged onto Facebook. I have owned travel trailers for almost 50 years and have enjoyed the Forums associated with the trailer we owned at the time. The Oliver Forum has it technical issues but for the most part it is a location to share information related to the Oliver Travel Trailer.

  9. Reed and Karen, Thanks for your posts here, and for creating your private facebook page. I certainly don't see it as "competition" to the forum, in any way but competing for available time for me for social media. I'm a mod here, and a member of several other forums and facebook groups, but this is where I devote the most time. I prefer to receive communication thru pm here, or messenger, not by phone or email, so I didn't add those to your group. Hope that's ok, and hope my post there was not misunderstood. If the forum goes down for repair, I see your private page as another way I can be contacted. Wishing you both a happy new year with your new Oliver. Sherry

  10. If considering loading ramps, besides safety, it is vital to consider the angle at which they will connect to the truck. If too steep, a heavy street bike may not have clearance to load or unload. My ramps are rated at 1,000 pounds and work fine for a 4-wheeler or a dirt bike, but will not load my street bike without help from a hillside (to raise the low end of the ramp, reducing the angle and the top-thus increasing clearance.) Backing the bike off onto a hillside is not an attractive option unless you can find a hill top to drop the ramp onto. Makes them practically unusable for the HD street bike. Notice how Grayson's ramps curve near the top. Much better option than straight ramps.

  11. Wasn't certain of the schedule of activities, so Elizabeth and I are registered four nights (4th-7th). Campground said they are not doing specific sites, but plan to block out an area for OTT Rally, then open it to us first come, first choice. It been a long winter.

  12. Justin, welcome! I'm a big fan of goal setting. While I don't know enough about your profession to comment on your plan, if you set realistic goals and stay the course you should be ok. I went the traditional route, working 40 years in the same profession ending with an ample retirement. Fortunately, I enjoyed what I did, traveled the globe and lived all over the place. Speaking of living all over the place.... A couple of thoughts on your quest to ship truck/trailer and explore - we lived many years in Europe (Belgium, France and Germany) and also Hawaii. Having shipped vehicles over both oceans I can say it is time consuming and not cheap. If your trailer is your home you will be without it during the time it is in transit (1 - 3 weeks). If you ship to Europe there are customs issues, fees, temporary licensing, etc. You will need to ship any personal belongings separately. I would not ship an RV to Hawaii. There are no RV parks that I know of on Oahu, Maui or Kauai. There might be something on the big island, but I doubt it. You said you don't like RV parks, but you do need to park somewhere and the islands are small and you're not going to find boondocking areas like in BLM and CoE areas here on the mainland. Even if you can find somewhere to park you will also need somewhere to dump and refill water. Plus, unless you are only going to explore one island, you've got shipping time and expense from island to island. Backpacking is the way to go in Hawaii. RV's are popular in Europe. Standards are different (220V electricity, plumbing connections). RV parks are away from the beaten path. Many of the roads are much more narrow than in the US. Forests and parks are tightly controlled. Unless you stay at an RV park you won't be able to just stop and boondock. Fuel is much more expensive. You'll need to get special insurance that is recognized by each country you visit. You'll need an international drivers license. If you were set on RVing in Europe I would recommend renting a European spec RV and vehicle once you get there. Otherwise, my recommendation would be to pack light, use the fantastic train system and stay in hostels wherever you travel. Much cheaper, more flexible and more convenient. Even at my somewhat advanced age I would backpack Europe before considering shipping my truck and Ollie. If you want an Oliver to live in and travel the US/Canada I would say good call. Overseas, not so much. Mike

  13. Welcome Jim, Wonder how many Ollies were sold because the buyers were considering and reading the Airstream forums. It was always, check the floor for rot, not a good selling point. We also got steered to the Oliver website from the Airstream forum. There is no indication what part of the country you live, but click on the "see a Ollie" up top, and I bet there is one you could look at within a couple hours from your place. Stan

  16. The Thompson's Ollie is at Pulpit Rock Campground near Decorah, Iowa. Great weather--high 60's, nice breeze and sunshine. No bugs here this early in the spring. Decorah is in Northeast Iowa which is part of the "driftless region that includes parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota. The glaciers bypassed this area resulting in a very hilly and interesting terrain. The rivers and streams run clear and many have wild trout. Great bicycling here too. Biked about 20 miles today. 17. This is Mother Neff State Park just south of Waco, TX. It sits on land donated to Texas by the mother of former governor Pat Neff. There are only 16 RV sites, all with full hook ups, tables, etc. It's very nice and not far off I-35. Bill, our shiny new trailer is now not so shiny after 9 days on the road!

  19. This is at Table Rock Lake State Park just outside of Branson, MO. This is a great campground and just minutes from Branson and all the shows and activities. We had a good visit to Silver Dollar City during their BBQ and Bluegrass week. The park is right on Table Rock Lake for those who like water activities.
