  1. As a follow-up note on storage: It is so nice to have the trailer at home! Can't stress that enough! It means you can do maintenance or modifications as you wish and it means that getting ready to go is so nice and easy. I've been working on ours and doing projects, such as a new countertop, new faucet, adjusting the overhead doors, upgrading the propane, installing the heavy duty suspension bushings and shackles, replacing the wheels, installing a full sized spare and many more little things. It also means we can go out and have a movie night in the trailer, spur of the moment, in the garage. It's a silly thing, but lots of fun. It means we don't have to winterize and it never gets dirty. We can gradually get ready for a trip over several days if we want to, with the fridge on, wash it and get all hooked up and ready to go. I insist on leaving before first light when we go for a longer trip. It's so fun to get all hooked up and have the rig parked by the front door, ready to go. We get up, grab a coffee and wander out into the pre-dawn morning with the whole adventure before us. Then the pressure is gone and we just enjoy the adventure. That night, who knows, we may be sitting in a hot springs, looking out the window at a wind storm or building a fire while it snows. If you can work out a way to have it at home it's really worth it. It even can act as a guest house for visiting friends or family. Liye wants our Ollie just for us, but I also have a Fleetwood sticky that we use for overflow visitors on holidays.

  2. Well, you could always call one toolbox one item... :) Like I said, it's a goal. I'll never reach it, either... S

  3. Sherry, We are getting ready to move to Blacksburg, VA in a month, and we have really gotten rid of a bunch of stuff. We had a farm auction, had the burn barrel going full blast, and made 4 trips to the transfer station with dupable junk. As far as the trailer goes, compared to the stuff people here on the forum take, we are pretty much bare bones. Of course having Gunner, the Shepard, in the back of the Durango does put a limit on the available space for "stuff". Stan

  4. Brandi & Air Force, Congrates and welcome to the Oliver Family! Certainly hull #10 has a storied history - hopefully you got at least some of the details about your new baby. I'm sure that many more adventures await the three of you. Please keep us posted and pictures are always welcome. Bill

  5. I store mine in the garage. We have a 10' high door and it clears by about 6''. Length is about 23 1/2, so it's about the same length as a full sized 4 door pickup. Standard garages are only 20' deep. So, you need an oversized garage with higher than usual doors, or a shop/barn.

  6. Over the past few years, I've read a number of blogs on the original 100 item challenge. As in, living with 100 items.. no more. One of the things we live about camping is simplicity. (Disclaimer.. don't have to count heat , water heater, wonderful shower in the 100). At the end of every season, now ten times, I unload the camper, and anything we haven't used in the last year, does not go back in bins to be reloaded in the spring. Our load gets lighter each year. We're certainly not at the 109 item threshold , but we get closer each year. For me, camping means a lot of processes are slower. Building a fire to make dinner takes time. But, it's worth it. And, that's just a small example. Uncomplicated life actually can take more time. But, the rewards are worth it, for us. We use that time to look around, and enjoy. Especially, the stars in a non-light polluted out of the way place. Sherry

  7. We are soo excited. We were planning on getting a new Oliver in a few years but there is no way that we could pass up a RED Oliver. Hull # 10. Winn and I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. We traveled up near Chicago to get this baby. We had tears on both sides. Happiness and sadness. I promised my students that I'd be back in time for class on Monday so it was straight up and straight back. It's the last full week of school so it is filled with activities. Dang. My plan to get out of field day in the Texas heat is foiled again. Can't let them down. Lol My husband is retired Airforce and currently does contract work as an environmental engineer. I teach fifth grade science. We like to travel around during free time. We we currently have a 1984 Uhaul. The plan was to sell it but I changed my mind. I couldn't do it just yet. Maybe later :-)

  9. Brandi, The Giant Jellybean and you were obviously made for each other! Welcome to the Ollie family. We early Ollie owners always wondered about the lack of cover for the see through door window. For nightime privacy, we tend to hang a lightweight towel, or shirt on the head bumper. There are some other options as well. I've sent you a PM with contact information and will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. Your Giant Jellybean will garner a lot of attention where ever you go . . . Pete

  10. Hi Brandi- Congrats on the red Oliver. Assuming the blinds are the same as newer models, they just clip on to the windows with a little pressure. If you take a look at another window for the proper alignment, it should be quite easy to snap back on. No blinds for the door.

  14. Why not just hook up to the trailer and go dump, it's not going to take much longer then messing around with a tote, especially if you have to make multiple trips. Stan

  15. We store ours at a local RV and Boat storage place. It is covered and has 20a electrical service. It has two security gates and cameras. Just 5 miles from our house. We would store it at our house but our restrictions don't allow that. Mike

  16. Brandi, that's great news! We are also just outside of San Antonio and are neighbors to another Elite owner (bugeye driver). Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything. Mike

  18. Hopefully you are not exactly like Mr. Wallace in that wasn't it right after he yelled "Freedom" that he died? Or, perhaps you are exactly correct in that the spot in your picture looks like heaven to me. Nice job and thanks for sharing it! Bill

  19. We saw that cutie, too, in 2008. What an adorable trailer. I hope you enjoy it for many years. Congrats. S You're not far from bugeye driver. He's out of pocket for several months, but can help you with many things on your 2008 when you catch up. A wonderful friend, and megacamper.

  22. We have found that at any point beyond 90%, the black tank is full of, well you know. Probably has to do with placement of the sensor on the outside of the tank. Tali says it's too scary to look down into the toilet and no amount of straw drawing will compel her to do so. Further, she states it's a "man's job." I'm not exactly clear on how that came to be but, at any rate, that's the way it is in the Outlaw Oliver. On an additional sidenote, never (let me repeat) NEVER pressurize the black tank by filling with the flush hose and press the flush pedal while peering down into the toilet. Think Robin Williams in RV. I happen to have become an inadvertent expert on that particular set of circumstances.
