  2. Regarding the Atwood A/C, how much water runs down the side? We are supposed to go into production next week and were planning on getting the Atwood in place of the Dometic. Just found out about the lack of a drain on the Atwood. This concerns me about long term effects on the gel coal/fiberglass. For those who have the Atwood, can you provide your thoughts, please? Thanks, Angela

  3. Hi, We plan to be Oliver owners later this year. My wife of 50 years and I are flyfishermen who travel to fish for trout. We have been to the northern tip of Newfoundland to the southern tip of New Zealand, but never to Alaska. Next Spring we will go first to northern PA and then off to Alaska. We hope to have exchanges with other Oliver owners about our trailer, alaska, fly fishing ,etc. Bruce and Lois

  4. There are many interesting historic military installations around the country. It might be interesting to have a thread where folks could post pictures and information about their visits to these places of US history. Many active military installations also have nice museums and historic buildings.

  6. On the original trailers, Oliver used to make these formed inserts for the access hatches. I don't know why they stopped - they sure would be handy.

  7. I second the Fort Davis suggestion. There is a terrific state park near that has excellent camping. Davis Mountains state park. Plus a terrific ice cream place in a caboose right across from the old fort.

  8. Last month we went to Ruidoso, NM to escape the San Antonio heat. We went from temps between 80 and 100 to temps between 50 and 70. Nice. While there, one of the local places to visit was Fort Stanton. It was established in the mid 1800's as protection to settlers. It was the cause of the violence in Lincoln NM as contractors fought over business with the Fort. It's where Billy the Kid got his start and fame. In the early 1900's it became a state TB hospital and during WWII was a German POW camp. There is a nice little museum. It's run by the state and they seem to be restoring and upgrading the site. There is a BLM site just outside on the way in that offers free dry camping or $5 sites with water ($2.50 with senior pass). Some nice hiking trails too. As a young officer, GEN Pershing was stationed there and COL Kit Carson was a post commander. View of the parade field. The post chapel. Fort Stanton is worth a visit if you're in the Ruidoso area.

  9. We spent some time in Davis Mountains State Park TX last month on our way back from New Mexico. It's near Fort Davis, Marfa, and McDonald Observatory. The Airstream in this picture is a 1960's model that the owner completely restored. That's our trailer in the middle of the picture!

  10. My guess to the "why not" is that a lot of times too many choices can be confusing and overwhelming, to the uninitiated and actually turn people off who aren't good with decisions. So it's good for a company to pick what works well and at a good price and offer that. The problem comes in when that is all they offer. This is where Oliver excels, for people who know what they are doing and what they are looking for, they do everything they can to accommodate the customer's request, like the AC, more solar, or even the AC/DC marine fridge. One just needs to know what they are looking for and ask.

  11. Because the YouTube video's titles don't completely fit on our member pages, it would be nice to be able to put a title below each video, if that's possible :)

  12. Good idea. You could use a chain saw file to dress the hole down for complete drainage, if needed. We have been camping in lots of rain lately, but haven't noticed it being a problem. Guess we were either wet already or just eager o get in and dry...

  13. Hi Greg & Donna, Thank you. Yes we did get the backup assist on the Lariat. We have not set it up yet though. We have the basket option and aren't quite sure where to place the sticker. Glad to hear it works well! Oliver did do the bike rack. I posted more about it and some pictures on our actual pickup day because I promised someone that I would. It is on the "how are you transporting your bikes" thread. We have only been on the highway with the rack but are pleased with it so far.

  14. Just a few suggestions that might help: 30 lb propane tanks with a port in front of them to reach tank valves. A port or two in the bath cabinet and/or closet to access the sink faucet and flex hose without having to cut any caulking. Cell phone booster. TV antenna. Center mount TV if they have decided they can do that modification and still meet code. Xantrex 2000 watt inverter. This will run the microwave, or run other tools, without firing up a generator. Four Trojan 6 volt batteries. Extra plugs, if needed, near the night stand, under the table, above sink counter, between entry door and bath door, in bath either in upper cabinet or near sink. Extra hooks are probably not worth it, they are not very strong. Install your own later in the bath or on the closet door /bath wall yourself. Add reading lights above both beds and probably near the pantry and stove end of the beds. Look at the upper cabinet doors and decide if you want mirrored or flat finish. Decide if the granite counter tops are really worth the cost or not. In my case, I'll be installing a stainless steel counter over the standard kitchen counter. Either the heavy duty shackle and greaseable bushing kit or the Easy Flex. I prefer the heavy duty shackle kit. Be sure you get the 12" brakes. Ask them about mounting the license plate and its light next to the spare instead of on the spare tire cover. This avoids dealing with wires and moves the light to a safer place. I don't recommend the Anderson hitch with a full sized truck. Considering the way the hitch mounts, the hookup hassles and the possible interference with the truck stability system, I think it's a waste of money, but decide for yourself after an honest look. Ollies tow so well you'll forget yours is there. Be sure you have a high quality brake controller already to go when you pick up your new trailer. Best to order this on your new pickup if available. Decide if the roof mounted solar actually makes sense. You will have to clean it regularly. You will have to park in full sun to make it work. It will never be at an efficient angle so it's rated output will never be seen. I'm only suggesting you go into the decision with a realistic view. I've decided that portable ones are best for me and I don't have to have that large array on the roof. The cleaner the streamlining the better. It was really fun getting our Ollie. I doing a number of modifications and we are having a lot of fun with it. For once we have a trailer we want to keep forever. Ours is parked in the garage for now, but we still go out and have movie nights in it.
