1. This is a nice place for a layover, especially if you want to remain hitched. 27 level sites, mostly pull through. Clean facilities, free laundry. $40 a night but for some reason we didn't have to pay. We must have looked like big spenders - little did they know it was past our bedtime. https://www.ladyluckcaruthersville.com/ [attachment file=20190612_084935 (5).jpg]
2. Exterior: Gold & teal Our truck had gold stripes so we went with that on our Ollie.
3. Trainman, we chose the same interior & I had the same concerns as you - but do not worry. The reality is that our countertop always has STUFF on it & it would have been a waste of money for us to get the granite.
4. Well, I am extremely sad to say that due to both of us needing cataract surgery, the Rally is a no-go for us. However, Alaska is still on, just a bit delayed. Original plan was to get to Haines, where our son lives, in mid-July but now it will be a week or so later. Like ScubaRX, we are meandering with no particular timelines. DenaliDavid, your offer is wonderful, kind, & greatly appreciated. We will contact you when we do have a timeline. Enjoy the Rally everyone! Chris
5. Steve & Tali, we are meandering too & plan to get to Haines by mid July. Then spend about a month in AK & meander home, possibly through the U.P., following the leaf change back home to FL. 5 - 6 months. Can we get together during the Rally? Would love to see how you've prepped. Chris
6. I'm so sorry you won't be at the rally. Our youngest son lives in Haines & we estimate we will be there mid July. We will definitely follow your blog & do hope to run into you somewhere up there! Chris
7. Who all is heading to Alaska after the Rally? This will be our first big trip & we'd love to get together during the Rally to glean any & all tips. Thanks! Chris
8. TG, this brought back a wonderful memory. When our youngest son (who had a speech impediment) was in the first grade, he performed "Wockin Wobin" during the school's talent competition. He didn't win. :)
9. Praying my husband doesn't see this ... ;)
10. Great video that spells this out so that even I understand it, sorta. "Towing capacity, quite frankly, is the least important number..." https://youtu.be/qwFLOBrADBs Chris
11. Nan, Check out http://supersizelife.com Debbie writes an insightful and soul-bearing blog about selling her home & fulfilling her dream of traveling fulltime in her Oliver. She is a sweetheart. Reach out to her. Make that dream happen! Also, I would love to see a photo of your dogs! :) Chris
12. Amen Bill! Great song. Love this line: "Ask yourself how old would you be if you didn't know the day you were born."
13. Bathroom door hack using a Camco basement door catch attached with a Command strip.
14. My favorite camping YouTube creator loves his Zero G hose.
We have had one at our home for a few years & can vouch that it is sturdy. It gets regular abuse, dragged across concrete & we rarely shut off the water. After seeing this recommendation, we plan to take it on our next trip.
(Note: Do not buy the inexpensive knockoffs. We had two, prior to the Zero G, that blew after a few months.) Zero G hose mentioned at approx 6:45 minutes in. https://youtu.be/4lcMUIcKkJo https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lawn-and-garden/watering-and-irrigation/garden-hoses/7465248 Chris
15. We thought that would be the answer too but, at least in the subtropics, the lights still came on.
16. Beautiful photo!
17. We have had a problem in the past with our trailer lights coming on. We found the problem to be moisture in the 7 pin plug that connects to tow vehicle. Duke
18. Bill's comment reminded me, because of the snow & ice, the ONLY place open in Hohenwald was Walmart which is where we ate dinner. ;) The Natchez Trace Parkway was also closed.
19. Hi Darryl & Kim & welcome! It was 9 degrees when we picked up our Ollie last January. After our Ollie Education, we set up at Fall Hallow Campground with help from Jason. Oliver had already winterized the camper so all we had to do was move in. It was toasty warm inside, but, I'll admit, I chickened out (FLA girl that had never been in weather that cold) & we stayed an extra night at the Fall Hollow B&B. (Awesome breakfast!)
However, needing to get home, the next night we were in Alabama & the low was 19 degrees. My first night in our Ollie was delightful! Go for it!
Chris First day at Fall Hollow
20. We just purchased the Yamaha 2400 and could not be happier. Looking forward to many years of service and knowing a/c is always available when dry camping. Duke
21. SMH Brilliant Pete!
22.
October 8-13, 2018
Kathryn Hanna Park, Jacksonville Beach, FL
23. A little water, a lot of wind, check for widowmakers overhead. We'll learn if we can add hurricane 'season' to our Olivers' ratings.
24. On the road to Jacksonville Beach! Finally getting to use our Oliver.
25. Has anyone done this? On a RV Facebook group, someone asked what to do with old 1# propane bottles. Other than using them for target practice, several folks responded that they refill theirs. Duke & I did not know this was possible, so I googled & found the YouTube video posted above. Would love to hear your thoughts. We're still leery. Facebook group is called rvtipsandhelpfulhints
