  1. We've had many threads on water storage. I'd be careful about reuse of milk and water containers, unless labeled bpa free. Most are not so labeled. There are some really good pitcher filters out there. Not brita, imo. Read the testing results, and decide what you can live with. Change proprietary filters on required basis. I bought pur plus/ultra for my mom, and us. One of the few that removes lead, and many other contaminants. There are other reasonable and decent choices. At home, we have an engineered 7 step filtration, plus uv system.
  2. In a few words, don't do it. Grey water fine. Fresh water could be easily contaminated, and the black tank is not rated for potable water.
  3. 5 gallon gas cans are not only inappropriate, but probably more expensive than bpa free 5 gallon water containers.(containers are color coded so people don't make a mistake.) If you can find them locally, less shipping. We bought containers like these, locally. https://www.legacyfoodstorage.com/products/5-gallon-blue-water-tank-stackable-container?variant=19404273418307?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=base&utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=1781302546&utm_term=&utm_content=343723866691&gclid=CjwKCAjwlqOXBhBqEiwA-hhitJS9I8x-oVcYtLJw8tSD5NdLh895qJVnQsvASzJTkLizXBe7SFRwdxoCVOUQAvD_BwE
  4. The Ayers were on the spit Friday and posted this photo on fb. Olivers all over Alaska this summer!
  5. Thank you, @dhaig. I'll pass that on.
  6. My brother reworked a vintage Old Town canoe. (1920s?) Beautiful.
  7. Asking for a friend, who is camped with limited bandwidth. (I don't have a truma) Wh error code seems to indicate no or limited gas supply, but fridge and stove work fine. Truma tries to ignite,,but won't light off. (He can hear it try.) Suggestions? Any of you had this happen? Thank you.
  8. Well, for those of us long time dodge /Chrysler fans/owners, Ram will possibly always be a "Dodge" in our thinking, even though the branches split, back in '09. Our 2008 is one of the last to carry a Dodge Ram badge, sadly. But, we'll carry it proudly. It's all still under the FCA umbrella. .. Am I one of the few who misses the Plymouth badge? My '74 Plymouth Duster, with its hearst shift, will always be one of my favorite cars. Frankly, I wish I still owned it. And, my mom's '73 Satellite Sebring... that was really fun to drive. And, fond memories of my brother's road runner... My brother's other car, his 73 Dodge pickup, was arguably one of the worst vehicles any of us in our family ever owned. Never without a rattle, or bits falling off. Maybe that poor production era was why they split the badges? Bad memories? IDK. (Dodge) Ram tough...working our way to 300k on our 2008. A lady stopped by the other day in a parking lot to admire our "pretty" truck. Crazy, huh? Whatever, it still runs. Great.
  9. Mr cool makes at least one 12000 btu 120v system. (We have a larger one in our garage.) The problem is, where to put the condenser? And, the interior unit is quite large, as well. Even if it fit, it would take up the entire attic space. Bonus if you figure it out. 22 seer. Extremely quiet. Well constructed. Coastal rated fins on condenser. Quiet night mode. Our smaller unit, in the garage, was diy. Charged line comes with the units. We looped up the extra.
  10. Unfortunately, none of the newer tech, even victron, is that easily learned. Phone apps help, but it requires study,,and learning. My boat is more complicated than my trailer. Someday, it would be "nice" to have the same systems in both, but, that's a monetary investment. Hang in there. You'll figure it out. Hoping weather is decent, wherever you are.
  11. I merged your two posts,,so folks who have your system can see your photos.
  12. Since everything works connected to shore power, can you stay another day where you are?
  13. And, ill add this quote from your status update: Thank you. Shore power EVERY THING works. Freedom x display shows full battery charge. Zamp controller shows full charged batteries. Remove from shore power...Freedom x goes black... and have no power.
  14. I'm not familiar enough with your system to help any other way than bumping your post, and asking if you've checked to see if you tripped the gfci.
  15. I guess I see that Ollie in your future, happy and snug in its winter home.
  16. Yes, and no. Probably depends on where you want to go, and if you're willing to live at anchor. It's perfectly legal to anchor in many somewhat protected bays near me, in Florida, as long as your sewage is properly contained and properly pumped out, and boat is maintained in operable condition, licensed, etc. (If you stay very long, count on an inspection visit...) Last time I drove over the bridge near me, there were sixteen boats anchored in the four bays nearby. Some Florida communities ban anchoring in their waters. And, boat slips in my area where you're allowed to stay or live on board are expensive and long waiting lists.
  17. Congratulations on your new Ollie, and thanks for the photos. Looking forward to hearing about your next adventures. Safe travels!
  18. +1 on the eccotemp L5. We've had one for 14 years, for outdoor springwater showers at our camping property. I've also used it for washing dishes, etc. We replaced the original showerhead and hose with a longer stainless wrap hose and a better shower head. We've replaced 2 small parts over the years. (We forgot and left the batteries in one year over the winter, and messed up the battery box.) Eccotemp live USA customer and technical support are excellent. I bought one for my cousin in Alaska, who has a dry cabin, but has a well. We helped her set it up the first year. She loves it, too. We sometimes have a bunch of tent campers here with us. The Ollie freshwater tank doesn't last long with 8 to 10 folks. The Ecco temp is one of our best purchases, ever.
  19. That's my hardship with powerboats, of any kind.. noise, fumes, and fuel consumption. We'll keep on sailing, as long as we can. Probably a nice coastal sailor, like a smaller kadey krogen, if and when we can't .
  20. We've been fortunate to meet really nice people, everywhere in the world we've camped . I feel very blessed.
  21. Here's a link to several, at campingworld. Usually around $40. https://www.campingworld.com/maintain-rv/rv-hardware-maintenance-repair/door-window/screen-doors-accessories
  22. Amazon. Camping world. Walmart.com. Google adjustable rv screen door guard Some people here have built their own.
  23. I could see that as possibly problematic. There are screen guards sold, to help. I'd personally hate to give up the full screen, but, plexi could work, of course.
  24. Hey, and welcome! Renting the Bambi is a great way to learn if you enjoy camping/towing/trailer life. Kudos to you on the "soft opening," and congratulations on your retirement. We camp a lot with a friend who owns a Casita. They're good decent trailers, heavy tongue, very different interior to an Oliver. Enjoy your trial. Ask away. We're here to help.
  25. We don't have a composting toilet in the Ollie, but do have one in our barn. (It's a dry bath, though.) Yes, it's important to keep ours dry. Different brand, but, keeping liquids out of solids is important. I think a big black trash bag or something similar would "cover the situation. " as in, keep water out of the toilet. That's what I think I'd do, in a wet bath. Just as easy as closing a shower curtain, but more room to shower, imo. Take the wet bag out, hang it up with clothespins, and done. I personally dislike shower curtains, and the cleaning required. You might want to ask this in a separate thread. The composting toilet is so popular, I'm sure you'll get some good answers.
