Anyone signing up for Starlink?
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Overland's topic in General Discussion
Have you all seen the Starlink satellite trains? Recent satellites had to be equipped with "visors" to prevent light pollution; only those launched before June 13, 2020 can be seen with the naked eye. There are several online tracking sites to tell you when they can be seen from your location. https://observer.com/2020/08/spacex-starlink-satellite-launch-tracker-how-to-see-in-sky/ -

Great . . . . another Covid supply chain issue! -
Leisure Travel Vans did an interesting installation of a Lagun table in the Wonder Front Twin layout. The table can be used with the bed/sofa or galley and stores away in the closet at the foot of the bed. With the stow-away feature, the height is fixed so it can't be raised to counter height. 2021-floorplan-wonder-ftb (1).webp

Our rural electric coop is partnering with a fiber network to provide high speed internet to all its customers, many of whom have little or no connectivity. The plan is just in development; they expect it to be 3 or 4 years before everyone has service. Price is a little less than what we pay now for DSL through our landline phone; $100/month seems to be the sweet spot most are willing to pay. DSL is not the best, especially when users are streaming entertainment, but ok. We also have cellular service, but not unlimited data. 4GB is $50/month. Use it mostly when on the road, but it's dependent on cell reception. -
We plan to stay at the Commodore on our way to delivery. Spending 2 nights, maybe more, at David Crocket SP before heading back to Oregon. I see you are social distancing . . . .

We will be towing our Elite II with our tried and true 2013 F-350 XLT Super Duty 6.7l diesel long bed crew cab 4WD w/tow pkg. (55K trouble free miles). We purchased it new as a TV for our then 30' 5th-wheel and for use on our ranch. It has been a great pickup; the XLT is a nice balance between utility and luxury - we prefer fewer "bells and whistles". And, being older, it doesn't have as many electronic engine components. It doesn't have built in sat nav, but our Garmin 890 is arriving today! Can't wait to play with it a bit before we head to Hohenwald the end of November. Towing the 5th-wheel, mpg was 12-14; hoping for 18 towing the Elite II; 18 mpg is what our 11,000# Leisure Travel Van 3.0l Sprinter diesel 6-cyl got, at best; I expect towing the Ollie with the Ford will be more efficient, though fuel use will be a bit offset by the V8 engine. Soon we will know!

Sounds like a "Better than nothing" solution . . . . . I expect there to be better options in the future. That being said, it scares me how dependent people have become on Internet connectivity. I have always embraced technology, but there's a part of me that will always be "Old School". -
I agree, for a bed. Should be perfect as a sofa. We purchased extra back cushions from another Oliver owner.

Search the Internet for King Tides; that is when the big surf puts on a show and crowds of people line the bluff . . . . here are a few from Shore Acres State Park. There is a nice campground at Sunset Bay, just a few miles from Shore Acres SP. From there, you can hop on the Pacific Coast Trail and hike along the bluff to Shore Acres State Park (hiking avoids the SP entrance fee). While at the park, you can explore the botanical gardens and walk down to Simpson Beach where you'll find concretions and tide pools (if the tide is out). The trail continues South, ending at Cape Arago. If you're ambitious, there is another section of trail on the other side of the highway that climbs up a ridge, through the forest, ending at an old bunker used during WWII for spotting off-shore invaders Pacific Coast Trail Map If you time your visit right, you can catch "Circles in the Sand" at Bandon We live about an hour away, so visit here often. Next time we'll take the Ollie! Surf at Shore Acres SP Old Bunker on the Pacific Coast Pack Trail Concretions on Simpson Beach Circles in the Sand at Bandon -
Would it work if the table was pivoted out a bit before raising it up to counter height?

Off Road - yes or no? 4x4 camper van vs Oliver.

We sold our Leisure Travel Van for this very reason. Although, I will say, we took it on a few Forest Service roads that were more suited for "crawling" Long wheel base and 2wd drive, but she make it through! Crazy kids that we are -
So is yours a 2020? I looks like you have the Black Dakota fiber granite which isn't an option for 2021. Our #699 will have the Midnight Decor with Mont Blanc counters which was my choice before the ala carte decor choices were eliminated. 40 days and counting!

Here on the Oregon South Coast we have, what I call, Pseudo Spring . . . . . a couple of weeks of nice weather, before the rains return. If not for Pseudo Spring, it would be a very long Winter. -
We are going to (maybe) use the dinette as a sofa during the days, since we eat outside for all meals, except breakfast - weather permitting. I say, "maybe" because it will depend on how much I rely on the dinette table for food prep. Can't wait to get our Elite II so I can try all these ideas that are running around in my head. I think I'll sleep better then!

Check out the climate in the extreme southern Oregon coast. Brookings to Gold Beach is called the Banana Belt. I don't know how the area compares for annual rainfall, but temperatures are great. The only disadvantage I can see is they are pretty well isolated from most of Oregon's recreation areas. And then there's the wind in Gold Beach. -
David Crockett sure got around, didn't he?

Feedback requested for winter Southwest trip.
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Mattnan's topic in General Discussion
In 2019 we traveled to the SW from the Pacific Northwest in mid-May. We had to modify our route to take us further south when a snow storm came through the Flagstaff area. Sedona was fine. We even ventured up to Payson as we wanted to see the Mogollon Rim; it got down to freezing in Payson at night, but the snow didn't reach that far south. Colorado is to be avoided in February/March unless you are prepared for cold and snow; Monarch Pass is over 11,000'. Most of the storms in the mountain and central SW originate in the PNW; if you watch what's going on there you will get a good idea of what to expect. -
I purchased a full size shower curtain tension rod to hang over the dinette for drying. I'm going to miss the enclosed shower with skylight in our campervan. It made a great drying room.
