  1. We were to Rocky Mountain National Park, 2 years ago in mid September, and that's a great time with the Elk in rut. We made some notes on the good camp sites, but don't know where they are. There are some that look out over the valley, but probably hard to get. We did get to see 2 bull elk having a heated discussion, with some violent head butting, over who had first dibs on the cows. Great time to visit Colorado. Stan
  2. We got these for the kitchen sink, and they are much better then what comes standard. Stan
  3. We are using a 2014 Dodge Durango with a 5.7 V8 hemi, and we are really pleased with it. We have been to MT,CO,AZ,TX, and FL twice. We get about 12-13 MPG, the only downside is, I wish it had a bigger gas tank. We put the back 2 rows of seats down and a piece of fiber board on top with a piece of carpet, so the dog has his space. Of course if we didn't have the dog (German Shepard) we would have a lot more cargo space. The Durango seemed to be about right size for us, it's rated at 7,000 lbs towing and not huge or expensive as a Ford,Chevy, or GMC. And, most importantly, it's fun to drive. Stan
  4. If you are going to stay at a truck stop, stay out of the big truck area, unless there is a lot of open spaces. A truck driver is operating under drive time regulations and total on duty time regs. Especially on the east coast, truck parking spots can be in short supply. We like to stay at Flying J's when needing a quick overnight, and they usually have RV parking spaces in a area separate from the truck area. Usually works pretty good till some clown's car catches on fire at midnight, and all of a sudden there are fire trucks and police cars all around. All part of the journey. Stan
  5. I'm not sure why they even have that limiter, took ours out it too, it's in the junk drawer. One of these days I'm going to throw it out, takes up valuable room for other junk. Stan
  6. There has been a lot of discussion on what's the best tow vehicle for pulling your Ollie. Now, I'm not advocating using a KW T800 as a TV, bit you sure would have plenty of diesel power, although the fuel mileage would eat you alive. I used to bring my truck home on occasion, and when it was backed up to the trailer, I thought, that's kind of a cool picture. Stan
  7. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. We have the the cell phone booster that was installed as after market by the factory about a year and half ago. It has been working fine up to now. Checked it last week and we are getting power to the small outside light, when we turn the toggle switch on, but no lights on the booster itself. It appears it could be a power issue, but we are getting power to the outside light, so maybe the controller itself is bad. Anyway just talked to Jason and he will get back to us later today. Stan
  8. Hey Mike and hull #64, should have swung by Tonganoxie, KS and paid a visit to sister ship hull #63. Glad you had a good visit' Stan
  9. Bill, We may have to look into attending next year. Stan
  10. Why not just hook up to the trailer and go dump, it's not going to take much longer then messing around with a tote, especially if you have to make multiple trips. Stan
  11. Sherry, We are getting ready to move to Blacksburg, VA in a month, and we have really gotten rid of a bunch of stuff. We had a farm auction, had the burn barrel going full blast, and made 4 trips to the transfer station with dupable junk. As far as the trailer goes, compared to the stuff people here on the forum take, we are pretty much bare bones. Of course having Gunner, the Shepard, in the back of the Durango does put a limit on the available space for "stuff". Stan
  12. Why not use the closet? 2 shelves and a pole to hang a bunch of stuff. Always been plenty of space to carry whatever clothes we need. Stan
  13. I put my fishing poles and tackle box under the front dinette seat, then when I get home and take them out, I say why did I even take them. Dealing with a non resident fishing license is kind of a pain. Stan
  14. We are at home waiting for some people to come by for a Oliver showing.
  15. Don, enjoy your trip to Europe. W e have been to London many times back in my TWA days, lots to do and see there. Stan
  16. We stayed at there Fall Hollow rooms, once when the original owners had it and once when the present owners bought it. The last time they let us have the run of the kitchen to heat our dinner that we brought along. I think this was right after they bought it and the restaurant was not open yet. A good place to stay in my book. Stan
  17. Propane tanks full at delivery? We had to take our tanks up to the lumber yard for fill up and we paid the tab. Guess I was kind of surprised that that didn't come with the trailer. Stan
  18. John, If you put a hot pan on the counter top, will the heat transfer do any damage to the fiberglass surface underneath? Stan
  19. My wife Carol, was in Lawrence today and spotted a Oliver on 6th St ( I think), maybe it was Iowa. Anyway, just wondering who was wandering around in our neck of the woods. Stan
  20. Think I'll just stick with my ancient Coleman stove. Stan
  21. Yeah John, you are paranoid. : ) Don't think those thoughts, you might make them happen. Stan
  22. I agree with the idea of a small see through window in the door. When someone (highway patrol) knocks on your door at midnight, it would be nice to see who was there. Of course a small kitchen window would slap be nice. I would like the jack switches inside, since we always level off the counter by the stove. At least you people with the newer trailers don't have to stand on your head to see the switches, and I always get the wrong one and push up when I want down. We never had a stability issue with the front jack, actually we often just stabilize with 2 jacks. Stan
  23. Good grief Bill, If I had know what strees it would create, I would have elected to keep pushing that truck down the road. No, we created our own special stress by deciding to sell the farm and move half way across the country. Blacksburg, VA here we come. Stan
  24. Last summer we picked up our grandson in VA and went down to the Cape for a rocket launch. We watched it from the facility at Kennedy Space Center, pretty cool experience. Stan
