  1. We stayed at Dead Horse State Park for the Verdy Valley Birding Festival, 2 years ago in April. Nice park and went on a neat kayak float on the Verdy River. Stan
  2. My regular highway speeds are 60-65, but on occasion I will look down and see I'm doing 70, hardly even feel it, so time to back off. Pulling with a Dodge Durango 5.7 hemi. Stan
  3. That was a good idea to refasten it with screws. When I had to take mine off, to repair the broken water hose, it was fastened with 6 big globs of silicon that was difficult to cut through. Might be nice to have a access door in the closet to get to the stuff under the sink. Stan
  4. Mountainoliver, Were in VA are you located? Our son and his family live in Troutville near Roanoke and we are planning on moving there sometime this summer. First we have to find a place, probably will go in March to look. Stan
  5. We are German Shepard people, we have our 4th one now. # of them came at no cost to us, and 2 have been ones that were unwanted by their owners. Their are really loyal and quickly attach to one person, that would be me of course. But they do have that herding desire. When we had horses, they got kicked numerous times, and now with the tractor, Gunner either is biting at the tail wheel of the mower or running out in front of the tractor. Really need to keep a close eye on him, but that's what he does. The down side to Shepards is the hip problems and a relativity short life. We love em while we have em, but Gunner will be our last one. Stan
  6. Karen or Reed, Whats the deal with Texas traffic lights? We are heading to Big Bend next week, so maybe enlighten us. Of course most of the driving will be on the "big road". Stan
  7. We have a roof on poles that the previous owner built. Of course every time we bought a different horse trailer, we had to raise the roof, and when we bought the Ollie, the roof had to go up again. The top had some old dirty green panels that did not let much light through, so I replaced 4 of the panels with clear ones that still lets the solar panels keep the batteries charged. It would be nice if the roof was another 5' longer, but it's what I have. Keeps the leaves and tree junk off most of the trailer. Stan
  8. Larry, Excuse my ignorance, but how is this thing used? Are you pushing the unthreaded end up into the faucet? Looks like something I need to add to my tool bag. Stan
  9. Mike, Last Feb when we went to Florida, we dewinterized the trailer before we left Kansas. Of course this was based on weather forecasts. We had a stopover at a Flying J in Memphis and just run the heater. We saw no need to run the heater while traveling. We would run the heater on lunch stops. We are heading down your way mid January to Big Bend National Park (come on, join us) so dealing with KS,OK,TX weather may be a different deal altogether. Guess will just have to play it by ear. Stan
  10. I would like for our city and /or state to show up on our avatar. I asked Matt if this could be done (of course it can) and he said it would go on his, to do, list but that was many months ago. I know some may not want their information listed, but if he made it a optional item, that would take care of those folks. It's nice when reading someones post to see where they are from without looking up their profile. Can I get any help on this issue? Stan
  11. Welcome Jim, Wonder how many Ollies were sold because the buyers were considering and reading the Airstream forums. It was always, check the floor for rot, not a good selling point. We also got steered to the Oliver website from the Airstream forum. There is no indication what part of the country you live, but click on the "see a Ollie" up top, and I bet there is one you could look at within a couple hours from your place. Stan
  12. Wow, that last picture looks just like the site we had at Millford Lake at Junction City, KS. We attended a rally this past September, which was 70% Casida trailers with the rest being other fiberglass trailers. Had a good time, but would not trade my Oliver for any of the others we looked at. Stan
  13. I'm thinking it may just be a laminate to give a neat wood look. I wonder what they are doing on the outside, as they did not get the stripes or fake window. Yeah, Shepards are the real deal, Gunner is the 4th one we have had so far. Great dog. Stan
  14. Robert, I had the same problem with my door, I tried gluing it twice with different kinds of glue with not much luck. Last Nov we dropped the trailer off at the factory for some other mods, while we went on to GA for Thanksgiving. They glued it back and had no problem since. You might give Tommy a call and see if he has any better glue to use. It would be a better design if the door opened in the other direction with a rod to hold it open. Stan
  15. I just read a thread on the Airstream Forum listing all the things this guy wanted for a true boon docking trailer. As I looked at all his items, I thought, shucks, we already have that, or can get it as a add on option. Plus if there is something we want and it makes sense, Oliver will do their best to accommodate our wants. All I can say is, What a company, what a trailer. Stan, and here we are in this beautiful October weather painting the garage and shop instead if out camping. What a idiot I am.
  16. Guess I never thought about keeping the hose connected, I just figured you unhook it and wash it out. Yeah, it was a pain reaching up there to hook it up, so I bought a clear plastic short piece about a foot long, which makes it easier. Stan
  17. Pete, Welcome to the forum. There is (almost) everything you need to know about an Ollie right here on the forum. Except, how are you going to deal with 3 dogs and 2 cats in the trailer? That should be fun. We travel with 1 dog, a German Shepard, and will soon start taking a cat along also. First we have to wait till the other old cat croaks and the old cow goes elsewhere, then we can stay out for longer periods of time. It's a real pain to keep asking the neighbor gal to tend to our animals. It's nice to have the dog with us, but they can restrict your activities sometimes, depending on where you are staying. Stan
  18. We were in Rocky Mtn National Park last year in mid September, and it was the perfect time. The elk were in full rut, the weather was nice and the aspens were in full color. Perfect time for hiking. Love the fall season. Stan
  19. Ray Ekland, is that you? If not sure sounds like him, I follow all his stuff over on the Airstream forum, enjoy his writing and style. Have not done any of his trips, but would sure like too. Wife is not too keen on getting off the beaten path by ourselves, but with a small group, would go for it. We see all these BLM roads and I just want to see where they go, stay a couple of days or more and go on to the next one. Lets go. Stan
  20. We are towing with a 2014 Dodge Durango with the V8 hemi and like it. I have not had the trailer on a scale yet. Stan
  21. I have chose to not use the Anderson hitch, and after 20,000 miles, have not seen a need for it. The trailer is steady and stable, even when passed by trucks. So far so good. Stan
  22. Nick, We go to the local library and get a bunch of videos, before we go on a trip. Of course we only get to see half of each one before we fall asleep, so we never know how they end. Oh well. guess they served their purpose. Stan
  23. Frances, A 3 hour drive to the factory is just a "ride in the park", we drove from Kansas City, 10 hours each way. And it was worth it, you will be spending more then 1 hour there, more like 5-6 or more. That is, if you place your order, like we did. Getting to go through the plant and see the different stages of construction, is well worth it. If you are really interested in a Oliver, you have to make the trip. Stan
  24. Mike, I like how you have your name by the door, kind of puts a friendly invitation to your camp sight. Randy, The shadow was part of the photo, and yes, it was cut out of thin vinyl, I guess. To apply it, she pulled the backing off and used a straight edge to press to the side of the trailer. This place did all the lettering on our fire trucks and do a really nice job. Stan
  25. Our son took this picture of a Cormorant, just taking off, while we were on a trip to Mexico for our 50th anniversary, which the kids paid for. (our kids are the best) A week in Mexico with the 3 kids and their families was a fun time. Carol thought the picture of that bird taking off was appropriate for that open space between the windows. We had a local sign shop make the decals from the picture we emailed them and they also applied it to the trailer. We are pleased with the end result. I have another idea to display the number 6314 or 1463 in script maybe on 2 lines on the back of the trailer, at a slant. The 63 is the hull number and the 14 is the year of manufacture. Still considering the options, but I think the sign shop could make a nice decal. Stan
