Truck Shopping and Cargo Weights
Mike and Carol replied to Mike and Carol's topic in General Discussion
My dealer seemed to think it could be changed which is why he went to Ram Corporate. He had some kind of POC there. I’ll update one way or another when I find out. -

It is a 2020 model that they just received. The Ram door sticker is higher, but the tire sticker was lower at 1165 lbs. -
Truck Shopping and Cargo Weights

The PW is tempting. If I could get the split tailgate I would be tempted more - the bed is high enough to reach into I would need a step stool all the time. Opening the tailgate out instead of down would help. Also don’t like the fact the PW only comes with a front bench seat. We like buckets with the increased console storage. Still looking.... -
Truck Shopping and Cargo Weights

I resisted just swapping out tires. The senior guy agreed and that’s why they are waiting on Ram to respond. If new tires increase the weight then the dealer wants a new tire load sticker to keep everyone good. I was surprised that the PW was so low. I told them that both trucks are worthless for towing if you can’t put anything in the bed. -
I’ve got the itch to get a new truck. I really like the Ram 1500 Rebel and have been looking for one with all the options I want/need. Online, I found one a couple hours away in Austin, negotiated a good price and drove up yesterday to potentially buy it. We took it for a drive and really liked it. Unfortunately, when I checked the Tire Load sticker it had max cargo at 1165 lbs. I told my young sales guy that wasn’t enough and I couldn’t buy it. He was a bit perplexed and fetched a senior sales guy, also an RVer, and he agreed. He called Ram corporate and was told it was the off-road tires they use (Goodyear Wrangler). In the meantime, we jumped into a Ram 2500 Power Wagon and took it for a drive. Nice. Same issue, though. Sticker said max cargo of 1235 lbs. Same tires. The dealer wants to replace the tires on the Rebel with higher load rated off-road tires and is waiting for word from Ram corporate. Fun! Mike

How Comfortable are you in Your Elite II ?
Mike and Carol replied to JPatrickJ's topic in General Discussion
The AC is loud. We avoid using it whenever we can. If the temperature isn’t too high we open windows and use the fan. We also avoid camping in Texas and other hot locations in the summer unless we’re on our way to cooler and higher locations. I don’t recall any injuries due to sharp edges on doors or cabinets. We don’t full time but are out for a month or two at a time. We spend a lot of time outside and generally haven’t felt cramped for space. There have been a few times over the past few years when we’ve been stuck in bad weather and got a little anxious for more space. But, in general, it’s plenty big enough for us! -
Phil, Merry Christmas to you and the entire Oliver staff!

I’ll check out the Blackstone the next time I’m camping shopping. I keep waiting for my Weber Q to wear out and it looks like I’ve got a long wait!

Congrats on your order! You’ll have something to think about and plan for as you go through the Wyoming winter. Welcome to the Oliver family! Mike

We did too. Great products and easy to work with.

We’ve never had a leak from our windows. Before removing windows try cleaning the tracks to see if that solves any leak issue. Mike

Anyone else watch the Tesla Cybertruck launch?
Mike and Carol replied to SeaDawg's topic in Towing an Oliver
I like the tension in this thread. Good thoughts on both sides. I also like what Tesla is doing. I have a Tesla dealer in the neighborhood and see lots of them on the road. A Tesla truck is appealing. Electric vehicles have impressive performance. I am a long time Audi owner and now have an Audi S3, so I also follow what Audi is doing with their e-tron, looks impressive. But, for towing my Oliver I need fueling flexibility. Some of the places we’ve camped were literally in the middle of nowhere and I was thankful for a small rural gas pump. I don’t want to have to change my travel plans to find a charging station. I will buy an new truck after the new year and it will be traditional. Maybe when it’s time to replace it there will be enough electric vehicle infrastructure to make an electric pickup an option. Or, you could turn on the air conditioner! Plenty of “white” noise there. 🤣🤣

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Scott and Debi, great news! I guess Bill is quite persuasive.... Happy Thanksgiving! Mike

I’m glad folks are thinking and innovating. The appearance doesn’t do much for me. The window fail makes me wonder about other design features. Impressive towing if that was a real contest with the Ford. Not very practical for what I need from a truck towing a trailer around the country. It is encouraging, though, to see someone pushing the envelope. -

Agree! My Ram is my daily driver, everywhere. -
I agree with John here. I’m not going to tow in snow. I might move off of a remote campsite in snow to a road that has been cleared. I’m fairly confident in my abilities driving in snow, but don’t trust others that are on the road. We will head out in early January for a month or two, but will stay clear of slick roads. Mike

Don, I think it will be a good match for your new trailer. The quad cab gives you more bed space so plenty of room for bikes. Congrats! Mike -

Sounds like you’re having fun! I’m going to be driving a new truck sometime after the new year and am having some of the same indecision issues. I think the Rebel and SR5 are different model levels. The Rebel is a little more upscale with the interior, skid plates, etc. The SR5 is more mid-level? I like Toyota’s and had an SR5, but you are right that the Toyota design is old, the new Ram design is, well, new. The Tundra and Tacoma are made right here in San Antonio, but I’m still leaning Ram. The twin bed riser option is no longer being offered by Oliver. There were only a few produced. If you can find one used (there was one that recently sold) I think a full sized guitar would fit. Even without the riser, you could travel with your guitar laying on the bed. I have a parlor size guitar that fits neatly on the floor under the lip of the twin bed upright and out of the way.

I don’t have any experience with Diesel engines. I’ve read mixed reviews on the Ram 3.0 diesel. The reviewers generally say it’s a good engine but not as good as diesels in competition half tons. I did read that you can drive across the entire state of Texas with one tank of fuel!
