  1. I’m sure you could check with Oliver for a replacement. Mine is not a heavy duty tool, can’t be too expensive. I have had to use mine when a back jack popped off the gears when in the up position. Took a few turns to get things back on track. Mike
  2. This has been my method for the last 8 years. No issues. Mike
  3. David sold his trailer some time ago and hasn’t been here since. You might try sending him a PM. He was a great contributor to the forum and a great photographer! Mike
  4. That’s a tough request, it depends…. There is such a difference in parks in east Texas, west Texas, along the gulf coast, etc. Palmetto is a good choice. Others to consider would be Palo Duro Canyon SP near Amarillo and Caprock Canyon SP (lots of Bison). Davis Mountain SP in west Texas is close to Big Bend NP, Marfa and Alpine. Mustang Island SP and Goose Island SP on the coast are nice if you like the beach. In east Texas on the LA border is Caddo Lake SP (only natural lake in Texas), totally different than any other Texas SP. There are so many more that we’ve been to, it’s hard to make recommendations for just one. Maybe others will chime in with their experiences and recommendations. Mike
  5. I don’t think it’s in Oliver’s mindset to cut costs by using inferior components. These obviously didn’t work out. I think they should stay with the original lights, 8 years and ours have never failed. Mike
  6. Hey Heather and Eric - congrats! Look forward to meeting you. See you out on the road somewhere! Mike
  7. Happy Thanksgiving fellow campers and travelers! We’re home this year (although we considered joining our son and family who are camping this week at Grand Canyon NP). I’ll be smoking two 12lb free range turkeys on the Primo ceramic this year. We’ve been doing two turkeys for quite a while, one inside in the oven and one outside on the smoker. The smoked turkey always wins the taste test, so we’ll just do both outside on the smoker this year! Mike
  8. Oh the things we learn here. Excellent explanation! Mike
  9. I had the same issue with the T fitting coming out of the hot water tank. The plastic cracked just enough to cause a steady drip. We discovered it on the way home after a long trip so I fixed it after we got home. Replaced the plastic with brass. Mike
  10. Frank, good luck with your next phase! Enjoy the travel overseas, there’s a lot to see. Mike
  11. Welcome, Joe! Hope the Wyoming winter goes fast so you can hit the road with your new Oliver. Mike
  12. We camped near Sylva for a week and really enjoyed the area. We even drove to Brevard for lunch with another Oliver owner couple there. @topgun2
  13. Dusty, welcome and congrats on the Oliver. Looks like you got a vintage model! We were in Maine a year ago, you live in a beautiful state. Mike
  14. Discount Tire has always done right by me. Glad you finally got resolution to that problem! Mike
  15. Ray posts here occasionally. He is @BoondockingAirstream on this forum.
  16. Brian, that can be a mess! It’s happened to me a few times. If we’re going to be moving after a dump we now make it a practice to physically push the gate down to ensure we won’t have leakage again. Your arrangement sounds like the way to go. Mike
  17. Happy birthday to all the Marines out there from an old Army guy. Mike
  18. I haven’t heard of any issues with the cables stretching. Sometimes it will slip at the valve if the set screw isn’t tight. I had to make that adjustment once. Also, I remove and clean/lubricate the black and gray cable every 2 or 3 years. It’s easy to do and it makes the dump process smoother. Mike
  19. This is very true. The size of our Olivers can be a positive - it tows effortlessly and is very well behaved. If the truck fits through, so will the trailer. Smaller campsite? No problem. Tight turn to get in? No problem. Tight gas station? Less of a problem. Extended rainy weather? Now we’re talking a negative. We’ve been cooped up inside for a few days and it can be frustrating. Fortunately those times get greatly outweighed by the non-rainy days. Also, for cold weather camping we’ve been very happy with our Clam and firepit, as do others. We can sit outside in cold weather with the firepit in the Clam and enjoy some room to spread out a bit. Mike
  20. It was worth it for us. Lots of miles on our old Oliver at this point. Lots more to go! Congratulations…. Mike
  21. We’ve camped in 100+ temps often, normally when we’re trying to get out of south Texas to cooler areas. The old Dometic in our trailer does fine keeping the interior cool, although it is a bit noisy. Texas heat usually includes a fair amount of humidity. Western Slope in CO will have significantly less humidity. We camp there often since our son and family live in Durango. Mike
  22. I wasn’t clear… I was asking if doors on newer Olivers were held shut by magnets. I think @Rivernerd answered that. My old door has a latch to keep it closed. I added a magnet inside the dinette seat to keep it open. Mike
  23. So the new doors are held closed by magnets? The little latch is gone? I put in a magnet to hold the door open. Mike
  24. What kind of noise? Hinges? Ours is very quiet.
  25. We had one of these. Very small and worked well. It wore out after about 2 years, not bad considering the price and size. Mike
