Interior Hull Trim Molding
Mike and Carol replied to Ralph Mawyer's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Well, have a good trip. We’re in Iowa tonight on our way to Maine. Weird weather, 60 degrees this morning and only got up to low 70s. Sunny. Mike -
Folks had high hopes about Nest. Especially since backed by Airstream. What a disappointment.

Fed Up With the RV Standard. Oliver Looks Like the Answer
Mike and Carol replied to Kampfirekid's topic in Introduce Yourself
Kampfirekid, good questions! I would try to see an Oliver in person, if you look on the website there is a program for owners to show their trailers. We’ve done it many times. I’ve got a bunch of reasons why you should be in an Oliver but at 6’5” you’ll need to see if the bath and beds would be comfortable long term. We have some tall owners and maybe they will chime in. At 5’11” I’m extremely comfortable with everything. These are extremely well built trailers. Issues are quickly addressed by the company. We have the standard RV appliances, so in that respect we aren’t too much different than normal trailers. The frame and body make this trailer very different. Other than bearing repacks, brake adjustments and suspension lubes there isn’t much regular maintenance to do. In 5+ years, out of the ordinary maintenance or repairs haven’t been an issue. Mike -

Ralph, for a newer trailer that is surprising. Looks like an easy fix but not something that should happen. Mike -
They may end up making a nice trailer, but everything they’ve done leading up to it has been sketchy. There is a long thread over on the Fiberglass forums where they are severely criticized for several things, mainly the name Cortes due to his history….

Our bath fan routinely opened while we were driving. Now we use a rolled up microfiber towel (the one we use to wipe things down after a shower) through the handle like Bill does above. Works well. I’ve also been looking for an excuse to replace that noisy fan! Mike

How To: Bathroom Door Hold Open
Mike and Carol replied to John E Davies's topic in Ollie Modifications
Two points on my installation. First, I wanted the magnet as high on the door as I could get it to minimize door bend when closing it. Second, my first installation had the other half of the magnet on the outside of the dinette seat, then I moved it to the inside under the dinette seat, an idea from @Spike (Jeff) in Arizona. It works great, lessens the magnetic pull but is still strong enough to hold the door. Plus you only see one magnet. Mike -

We use three of those towel racks. One on the fridge, one between the sink and cooktop and one in the bath below the mirror. -
That is an odd link to have in the specs for their trailer. Obviously they’ve been doing their research!
-
The specs say Furrion AC but the trailer in the video has a Dometic AC. Wait and see…. Mike

I have to use a step stool to get to the contents in the truck bed. We carry something similar. MIke

Looks like a nice unit. Dometic better up their game….

We’ve got a runner we bought at Walmart and one that we bought at Target. Both are 22” wide. I’d like to find a 24” wide runner that overlaps the fiberglass on either side. Either way, these were cheap and can be replaced with no guilt. Mike

Yes, it will. I used the collar lock (with Abus disk lock) on two different trucks (half ton) with the Andersen. Still using it without the Andersen. Keep the questions coming! Mike

Ordered placed last February Elite II
Mike and Carol replied to Nick and Linda Stratigakis's topic in Introduce Yourself
Nick and Linda, welcome! March will be here before you know it. You’ll have plenty of time to learn and stock up on supplies. Ask any questions you have, you’ll get plenty of answers! Mike -
Spearfish has a nice municipal campground, too. We stayed there on our way to Glacier a couple years ago. Spearfish looked like a nice little town. Mike

Oliver University is Live!

My 2016 came with BF Goodrich light truck tires. Then they went to Michelin. The current tire is made by Cooper, which I used to replace my 5 year old BF Goodrich’s. Oliver has a good track record on tires, all have been good. Mike -
Can’t disagree here. I try to clean the window tracks after long trips. It’s a pain. It’s surprising what you find in there. Mike

Contemplating Trip to Waco, TX Aug. 1-9, 2021
Mike and Carol replied to IL_Travelers's topic in General Discussion
If the leathercraft show is something you would enjoy, I think you would be able to stand the heat for a week. We spent a week at Big Bend when the temps were in the 100s and also a week at Palo Duro Canyon when the temps were in the 100s and we had a great time. You’ll sweat a little. Sit out in the evening in shorts and a T-shirt after grilling then shower before bed and you’ll be fine. My $.02. Mike -
If you can establish a relationship with a reputable local independent you should get good service. Our local repair shop has seen business increase significantly the past 12 months and he is always backlogged but seems to be able to get me scheduled in a timely manner. He’s been doing maintenance on my Oliver for 5 years and on Bugeyedriver’s Oliver for probably 12 or 13 years. Mike

Yes, it’s hot here in August. Also, it’s hot here in July and September. June wasn’t too bad. If you are at a full hookup site and can run the AC she would be comfortable, but might get cabin fever in that small space for days. Usually it’s cool enough to sit outside in shade in the morning and evening. A great place to stay just south of Waco is Mother Neff State Park. It’s small but is meticulously maintained with large sites and trees (all FHU). We’ve stayed there many times. We’re leaving tomorrow for a long trip and will be camping in north Texas tomorrow night. It can be done! Mike -
I have not seen any comments here on dealerships treating Oliver owners differently than those who purchased an RV at the dealership. I haven’t seen that over on Fiberglass forum or AirForum either. In fact, I see where some AS owners regularly go to a different dealer for service than where they purchased. This is especially true for folks who go to Colonial Airstream in NJ from other areas of the nation. We use an independent repair place just a few miles away and have had excellent service from them. Welcome Mike and Sue. Your story sounds similar to ours, only 6 years later! NC is increasing in Oliver owners! Mike
