  1. Take a look at SeaDawg's post above. I picked up my Oliver on February 16th - a few years ago. Crossing the mountains of western North Carolina was a real treat that day in that the temps were right at 31 to 33 degrees with rain - four days of it! Even though the camp grounds were a sea of mud and my nice new Oliver paid the price, the temps in Hohenwald were in the high 30's. On the other hand - temps at that time of year can be in the middle to upper 50's. Good luck! Bill
  2. hobo - You might want to PM ScubaRx about this. I don't think that he did the exact thing you are talking about, but, he did install two very similar doors in the propane tank cover area. Bill
  3. Welcome to the Family (almost). At least you have plenty of time to plan those trips and plan what things you will want to do to your Ollie when you get it. Bill
  4. No wonder that there is "no lifeguard on duty". I can only imagine what the temp of that water is! Seriously - there are a bunch of us that are very jealous at this moment. Looks like a wonderful spot. And, from what I see in the local newspaper it appears that your temps have been rather warm. Bill
  5. The current way to get custom things done on your Oliver is to either: 1. Talk to the Oliver Service department after (or even before) delivery. 2. Hire someone local to do your bidding. 3. Do the job yourself. Bill
  6. Older (I'm not too sure what that means) alarms had an expected life of 5 years. But I've been told that the newer ones (not sure what that means either) have a life of 10 years. Supposedly, the newer ones will also give you a warning via a certain series of beeps as to when they are at of approaching this end of their expected life. All of the above is still no reason for the detector to die after only 18 months in service. Once I get (another) reply from Dometic I'll update. Bill
  7. As I mentioned in my May 26th post above, I'm still dealing with Dometic concerning my warranty claim. They had me take the "dead" alarm to an authorized service center - the local CampingWorld - who tested it and confirmed that it was indeed dead. Then I emailed Dometic and asked what did I need to do next and they asked me to send them a picture of the dead unit. Great, but, CampingWorld kept it! So, I sent Dometic a description and a link to their own website. In return they sent me a picture (the same one that is on their website) to confirm that this was the unit. I confirmed it just yesterday so now we will see what happens next. Bill p.s. (edit) sure is a bunch nicer on those rare occasions when I have needed to deal with Oliver.
  8. Here is a link to the one that is installed in hull #117: http:// https://www.dometic.com/en-us/us/products/safety-and-security/safety-solutions/gas-detectors/dometic-dual-lpco-alarm-_-19500 Bill
  9. Yep - that's the stuff (there are a couple of brands that are similar). I only use it a couple times a year and all seems to operate smoothly. Bill
  10. Why not "do" both trails and leave the driving to Maddie & Baxter?😁
  11. A couple of years ago I was camped under a tree that was covered with ants. They dropped onto the Ollie and found the "weep" holes in the window tracks and were soon inside. A quick spray took care of the problem and they have never returned - of course, I've never camped under that tree again either. Over winter storage I've placed "sticky traps" inside, but, have never even caught one spider let alone anything else. Bill
  12. The "un-mentionable"
  13. Nice of you to "mention" it!
  14. DMc - Yes, all new Olivers come with nitrogen fill tires. Bill
  15. For the sake of privacy on what might be a personal issue regarding whether you do or do not have a safe on board, you might want to send a PM to ScubaRX in this regard. Bill
  16. The wooden door was/has been used in the past when the owner opted to not get the microwave. However, it appears that this has recently been changed so that this is now at least a frosted panel/door. I'd guess that you can order whichever panel/door you would prefer, but, I'd also guess that the wooden door option has been discontinued. Hope this helps. Bill
  17. Yes! The Winter after receiving my Oliver I spent a fair amount of time fabricating a carpet covered super-dupper shower floor. Unfortunately it made the floor too tall for me to be able to stand in the shower without having to bend over. So, I gave it to another Oliver owner who is somewhat under 6 foot tall. Still not liking the feeling of the "cool" fiberglass under foot I started looking for a bath mat that would fit that space, dry quickly, was machine washable and that I could place on the outside of the shower when things really got damp in there (i.e. a place for my wet feet to land after a shower). After a year of searching I found this: https://www.campingworld.com/idry-bath-mat---pewter-71553.html Bill
  18. Just saw this YouTube video yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7GQ_E40DcM Bill
  19. This “departure angle” issue not only applies to "rough uneven forest roads". Particularly in the Western States roads are built with fairly deep gutters for rain and snow. These can pose a "departure angle" problem when pulling into and out of gas stations, grocery stores, laundromats, etc. Particularly when one is in a hurry due to traffic considerations. And, due to the fact that these are not dirt roads, the damage done can be much more severe. Bill
  20. I guess that there might be a few reasons one would want to secure the bathroom door in the open position. I know that since I travel alone 90% of the time, I prefer to simply leave it open. Obviously this is difficult to do if the Oliver is "tilted" towards the curb side. Another reason is you want to leave the bath door open as either you are using the bath and/or getting/putting things in or out of the bath. And yet another - you want to exhaust air with the bath fan while bringing air into the Oliver with the MaxAir fan. I'm sure there are more but I'm guessing that you get the idea. Bill
  21. The cushions that I have for one side have a "tab" with snaps on the "back" of each cushion in order for them to be attached to each other. Certainly you could ask for these tabs to be left off or you could leave them on an mix/match for either side.
  22. Mike & Carol, Since you jumped in (thanks!) - do you know what the measurements are of the shade you have? Bill
  23. For anyone considering the purchase of one of these sun/wind screens (like me), you might want to consider one that comes in two pieces and zip together. Mike & Carol purchased one of these in Quartzsite a couple of years ago and the advantage is that when temporarily leaving the campsite or stowing the awning for the night, you only have to unzip the lower portion of the screen and then roll up the awning. Mike tells me that when traveling they remove the entire screen since the short portion does not entirely roll up into the case with the awning. https://www.amazon.com/13-Charcoal-Vista-Shade-Zipper/dp/B00DV7F8AQ/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3PG9UJ6TVOKPD&dchild=1&keywords=vista+shade+with+zipper&qid=1591543597&sprefix=Vista+Shade+%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-5
  24. Yes, thanks for the kind comments. We Moderators are Oliver owners and Forum members just like everyone else on the Forum. In addition to our "moderator" duties we too have opinions, emotions and overall views of our world that may or may not coincide with virtually any particular topic out there. However, we try our best to be guided by the "Oliver Forum Guidelines". If anyone hasn't read these Guidelines in awhile, now might be a good time to do so. They can be found under "General Discussion" - "Read First: Oliver Forum Guidelines". Bill
  25. In reading the warranty it sure seems to me that you have a legit claim. Good luck! Bill
