Mine was absolutely pristine - no spots, no compound, no water marks, no ..... In addition, when I went back to the Mothership to get Twist this past Fall after they had performed a couple of additions, it was once again cleaned. Certainly they were not "testing for leaks" that time. And, even the tires were "dressed". Just got to love those guys and gals at Oliver! Bill

Any Olivers in Florida? Historic launch Saturday morning
topgun2 replied to SeaDawg's topic in General Discussion
Sherry, Yes, a launch is really amazing. While down at Bikeweek a few years ago a friend of mine and I made it over to Coco Beach for a shuttle launch. A bit over ten miles away and one could still feel their insides rumble! Even getting up at 3 am was not a problem after seeing that thing streak into the sky. If you are anywhere near - get there. You will not regret it. p.s. Sherry - please do not leave. I believe that these things come and go in cycles and I'm guessing that this cycle is just about done. -
Prior to picking up Twist one year ago (tomorrow) I purchased a TPMS that was on sale at Northern Tool for about $100. While it is better than nothing, there are times when one or two (usually on the street side) of the tire monitors stop working. The fix is usually as simple as taking unscrewing the sensor from the tire stem and immediately putting it back on. This Spring I'll look at the "problem" in a little more depth to see if there is a simple fix. However, for the money and the peace of mind - most of the time and always on the curb side - I don't think that I'd be without this system. Bill

While not funny, I found this Buffalo Bill to be rather stunning. Located about two miles south of Interstate 70 just northwest of Oakley, KS. Bill

Rubber Gaskets Around Porch Lights

This is disappointing news. On the other hand - look at the time and effort I will save between now and the May Oliver Rally in NOT having to clean those nasty black streaks. Maybe after the folks at Oliver actually see how bad this looks, they will be inclined to either look for another supplier or be a bit more vociferous in getting the current supplier to correct the problem. BB - To answer your question - in the "kit" purchased from Redneck Trailer Supply there is only one bearing that has a country or origin stamp on it - China. I will add here that this did not bother me in that I view these kits as emergency use only items. Since they are in a kit and are sealed in their own packaging, they fit the bill nicely for the purpose intended. As an aside - relax. I (we) understand your anticipation and excitement on getting your new baby. Just lay back and enjoy the experience. You are well served in having owned a camper before and what you do not remember, forget to ask, or simply will be confused about can be taken care of at a later date. Focus on those things that are important - safety items - and other than that just enjoy your new Oliver. Congratulations! Bill

Buzzy, Two things - 1. I have one of those "tanks" and IF you are going to tow it in the manner described, one must do so at a VERY slow speed. I have found that I use mine such that I do not ever fill it over about half full. That way I can lift it into the back of the truck, take it to the nearest dump station or regular toilet and empty it. By using regular toilets (either pit or flush) I greatly expand the number of places that I can use. This meathod is particularly useful when traveling out West and regular dump stations are not necessarily easy to find. 2. I trust that pictures of the new little one are soon to follow! Bill p.s. sorry for the slight highjack. Back to talking about awnings?

Rubber Gaskets Around Porch Lights
topgun2 replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I'm with Mike and Carol - I'm not in any way convinced that this is part of the "normal aging process". In fact, just the contrary - at first my gaskets didn't "bleed" and it was only after six months or so that I started to notice the problem that continues to get worse. I also do not believe that putting a bandaid over the problem is the appropriate solution. As I have stated before, the seals and gaskets on my car and truck don't do this. Bill- 97 replies

Jason replied (quickly I might add) to a specific email regarding tire sizes. I assume that these wheels are exactly the same, but, I could not guarantee that - It would seem to me odd that they would be different and certainly these two tire sizes would fit on the same wheel and the expense of having two different wheels would also not make sense. However, if you are still concerned, I would encourage you to drop Jason an email. Bill

Canoe 12, On my Elite II (hull #117) the spare tire is 215/70R16. And, even though Randy's tires are Goodrich, my Michelin's are the same - LT225/75R16. And, I have just received an email from Jason confirming that the spare is now the same size as the regular tires (LT225/75R16) with a slightly larger cover to accommodate that size. Bill

Malcolm, Type "wheel torque" in the search box and you will get a nice chart from John and several other direct answers to your torque question. However, to save you some time - it seems that the answer is 90 to 95 foot pounds. Bill

Sorry to bother you guys, but, since Twist is in off-site storage I can't get these numbers myself. Can someone tell me the exact numbers (width, height, aspect ratio) that are on the sidewalls of the Michelin tires on the Elite II? Thanks in advance! Bill

Rubber Gaskets Around Porch Lights
topgun2 replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
In the year that Twist has been in existence and over the approximately 7,000 miles traveled, I have not seen evidence of any leak of any sort any where. During the summer months above 8,000 feet with morning temps at or below freezing, there was some condensation on the windows - nothing on the walls ( I always leave the bathroom vent open). This condensation was not severe and was not frozen nor was it enough to even drip on the windows. Hope this helps. Bill- 97 replies

In talking with Jason yesterday, he told me that the company that makes the "porch" lights is re-designing the gaskets. As soon as the re-design is done they will ship some to Oliver. Hopefully all of this will take place prior to the Oliver Rally in May. Bill- 97 replies

Rubber Gaskets Around Porch Lights
topgun2 replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
OK, I think I've got it! The cause is "obviously" due to the "fact" that the odd numbered Olivers are the only ones that seem to have the problem - #'s 117, 135, 141, 147. Seriously, it is not the fasteners, nor do I believe that it is the car wash/rv wash that was/is used. Other than 4 days in New Orleans, my Twist has not been near the ocean (and I don't think that New Orleans should be considered as being near the ocean). Therefore, I do not believe that salt water caused (or is causing) this problem. The water here in western North Carolina has very few minerals in it at all, so, I do not believe that it is being caused by that. And, we all have some degree of "acid rain". Even if it is being caused by acid rain these gaskets should not "bleed" in this manner - the rubber on my car and truck doesn't. I'm convinced at this point that there is something wrong with these gaskets and they should be replaced. I'm a bit nervous about attempting the replacement myself in that the lights would have to be disconnected in order to get the gaskets off and the new ones on. In addition, while I assume that these lights are held on by screws, it certainly would be troublesome if they were bolted on. Finally, I can see no reason to suspect that these are leaking behind the lights. Bill- 97 replies

Speaking of which - I believe that the above should read, "All Elite II trailers being twin axle’s have the 3500 lb axle’s with 10 x 2 1/4 brakes". Not "3200 lb axles". Just for the record. Bill

ANNOUNCEMENT- OLIVER TRAVEL TRAILER RALLY 2017
topgun2 replied to hardrock's topic in Events & Rallies
Unless something "bad" happens I'll be in site 21 for May 4th until May 7th. -
I, for one, will sorely miss you Tommy. Thanks once again for all the help you personally gave me and for taking care of those things that I'm just not smart enough to figure out on my own. Good luck with your new adventures and please do not be afraid to stick around here on the Oliver Forum so that we can continue to take advantage of you. Bill

A. That information should be on your "build sheet" B. Ask Jason in the sales office C. Get you serial numbers directly off your axles and ask Dexter. D. I'm out of ideas....

A short while ago a question arose regarding the proper size of bearings for the Oliver Elite II. I had posted that I purchased a "kit" from Redneck Trailer Supply and carried these with me - just in case. Another Forum member questioned the size of the bearings/seals in this kit. So, finally, today I called Redneck Trailer Supply to reconfirm some information. It appears that the original confusion centers around which axle is on your individual Oliver. If you have the twin 3,500 pound axles then the "kit" number that you want is - BK2-100. If your Oliver has the 5,200 pound axles then you would need the BK3-100 kit. Bill
