Last night on the road after 6 weeks. We are staying at Dumbarton Quarry Campground, part of Fremont Ca park system. What a nice surprise, one minute we are fighting Bay Area 6 lanes of traffic and next you are in what seems to be a remote place miles from the concrete jungle.  Besides an oasis in the middle of madness, the price at $73 is very reasonable for the city.  This is a great stop over if passing through the bay-area. We'll be on the road at 4am to beat traffic. Should be home in humboldt County, Ca before noon tomorrow.

Epic trip!!

Jd, I missed your question about remote camping  in the  Navajo nation. The answer is yes, we were able to camp outside of campgrounds in remote areas. You can get permits at the visitor center in Cameron for various areas. We had planned to camp in the Coal Mine Canyon area but it was closed due to road damage. The folks at the visitor center recommended the little Colorado River Canyon. The Little Colorado River Canyon was very remote but you had to work / very slow go to get there. It's out there, you will likely be alone and have dark skies. Be sure to ask about roads for your Oliver. We were cautioned about some of the roads.

So, tonight we met cousins at a favorite pizza place. Also a harvest host site. Midcounty, Largo. Surprise! A newer Oliver in rhe lot. Our server said they were very sweet folks, had been in earlier. I left a note in the door handles.

Florida plates. No tv in sight. Probably out exploring on a lovely 70+ degree night.

A week ago, we arrived in Quartzsite on a Monday afternoon!

After a great birthday weekend for our son at home, we’re on way to Sierra Vista! This spot is a nice drive, just 3 hours from home. We had to stop at AJ’s for meats and loaded twice-baked potatoes, and there was traffic in the valley…

Arrived here at West Pinal Park, 22 miles west of Casa Grande. A GREAT stop-over at $10/night for those who are driving into AZ not wanting to go further into Phoenix.

We lived in Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca for many years.  Almost retired there!

I remember that. Sierra Vista certainly lives up to its name!

We’re camping in Miller Canyon, just south of town in the Huachuca Mountains! 😂

Favorite restaurants in Sierra Vista, anybody?

We just stopped in the German Cafe for lunch! Jaeger Schnitzel and Spaetzle. 😋

Our first day in a week without being sub-freezing overnight. 52 and sunny. Despite being chilly, this Florida sun is hot when sitting in it! Wide brimmed hat and sunblock required for my pale complexion.

Not easy pulling the Oliver through Bisbee AZ! Drove up to Mimosa Market, which had great reviews, on the north end of town, only to find it’s only open 4 half days a week. It seems Bisbee has more closed real estate than open stores. As we drove up, I realized there was no turn-around, had to back up a side street to get back. Crazy narrow roads!

We ate lunch at Bisbee Breakfast club, the only open business in the vintage Lowell area. Cool old storefronts and classic cars everywhere!

Shame that the town isn't a bit more active.  Just hate to see the big box stores that don't have the charm get ALL the business.

Looks a bunch warmer there than the 18 degrees we have here at the moment.

There was more going on center of town, but not anywhere to park the Oliver. If you stayed at an RV park and detached, you could spend more time.

No big box stores! A Safeway SW of town on Hwy-92 and the closest Walmart is in Douglas.

We enjoyed visiting Bisbee when we lived in nearby Sierra Vista.  Tombstone, too.  Those were good days.  Mike

And we thought a couple cloudy days, high of 50F at altitude in the Huachuca Mountains was not good Arizona camping!

Was a sunny 65F today, lunchtime in Tombstone! Camping two nights at Hofmann Vineyards in McNeal AZ. Heading back to The Valley tomorrow, where highs will be in the low 80s! 😎

Why are there a million Snowbirds in Arizona every winter? It sure beats shoveling snow!

We’re back at West Pinal Park (for the warmer weather).
