Camp Stoves: What is your favorite outdoor camp stove? -- I'm looking at stoves that will be compatible with the Oliver QuickConnect

We’ve had a half dozen different grills since we acquired our first Oliver back in 2008. From a SS ceramic brick grill to a Weber Q. All were more trouble than they were worth for one reason or another. Some were always too hot, some not hot enough, some were messy to clean and all were impossible to pack into the vehicle efficiently.

Until we bought a Black Stone. It easily breaks down into two almost equally sized pieces. I built a rack attached to the bed slide in the Silverado to specifically hold them.

I also bought this folding table to set it on. This is the best system, by far, that we’ve ever had.

I just bought a Blackstone 22 for my upcoming adventures.  Would you mind sharing a photo or two of the rack you built to your slide?

We are currently on the road to the Maine Rally. I will be there in a few days and will get some pictures when we set up there.

The BS 17” griddle has served us well and can be used with the Oliver QC ports with a simple adapter. I have a 36” commercial grade flat top at home and there is nothing cooked on it that can’t be cooked on this smaller griddle when camping. Perfect for 2-3 person food preparations, compact, carry bag/griddle cover, easy to clean, fun to cook on, ‘nough said!

@Ronbrink Great job job of space utilization. I like the way you packed the inside of the griddle.   I just bought our 17" inch Blackstone this last summer.  My wife and I love it. We fill up the grill for a nice large and fancy meal.  Clean up is a breeze. We got rid of our older 2 burner stove for the black stone.  It is now our go to cooking appliance in nice weather.  If it is poring rain and windy then it back inside to cook.

Our feelings too. We bought the larger Blackstone model and returned it without trying it. The connection of the top seemed loose, and I did not like the grease trap. Chris, Adam and I all have restaurant experience, using commercial equipment and we wanted something better. Must be stainless steel, not Teflon or aluminum.

We bought this electric countertop griddle, thinking of using it for camping when on shore power or adequate battery/inverter capacity. It's amazing, yet it’s really toooo heavy to load and unload when camping. What a deal on the commercial grade griddle! We kept it for home use.

Avantco EG16N 16" Electric Countertop Griddle - 120V, 1750W

Found a cabinet on Craigs so it could sit on our deck at home. We get morning sun on the deck and given our climate we use it outside year-round. With a piece of plexiglass I had on hand, I created a splash guard and installed an overhead light.

Chris cooks breakfast on the grill almost every morning. Cleaning takes some work as it is stainless, not coated. Picture shows Adam and Chris cooking Egg Foo Young, one late June night! It's generally hard to cook a dinner like this with big eaters like us in a normal home kitchen!

We still do not have a flattop grill for camping! 🤣 Might just get a flat griddle iron that fits the kitchen cooktop.

I’ll cook under canopy with light rain and/or wind, but when unable we resort to something simple; we do not cook inside other than instant oatmeal and microwave preparations, and Keurig coffee of course!

We cook anything inside or out, and more inside now with our new Emeril Air Fryer installed! The MaxxFan clears up any cooking smoke/smells nicely. Most trips we like to have a meal ready for our first night that only needs reheating. This way I don't have to do the full campsite setup after a long day.

Love to be outside more, though during our 2023 spring trip to Moab UT and points between, we had more days windy than not. So windy, the Weber Q grill would not stay fired. Can't sit by the fire ring either!

I hear ya, easy to get spoiled with the good stuff! Although the 17” BS is a great choice for preparing quality camp food, I too am not impressed with their larger models for home use, which are not long lasting for such a costly investment. My 36” BAKERS PRIDE griddle has a 1” thick steel plate and weighs 465 lbs., it flanks my KOMODO KAMADO smoker out back under canopy.

Most travel days we eat really well along the way, so cooking upon arrival is never the case, nor setting up camp unless early enough to unload a couple of chairs and a side table. A beer in hand is a given, as well as a late evening drive looking for wildlife! To your point, always ‘meal ready’ food usually in the form of smoked brisket, chicken and ribs vacuum seal from the home freezer!

Good point! The 22” model was what I was referring to, has a centered rear grease trap. Pics of your 17” looks much better with front grease trap.

Ron, you generally are well-equipped to say the least! 🤣 Your 36” Bakers Pride puts our 16” model to shame! But for $189 and at a weight that can be carried, the Advantco is really nice. Check the reviews from small restaurant owners.

btw, you know I’m one for a deal… when our grilled was shipped they dropped it, bent the upper left  corner. Webstaurant, to whom we have bought from often, offered me a 20% refund or 40% in store credit. We took the credit! You cannot get a better grill for under $200. The next grill up in price is near $500. All you need is a 110V outlet.

I ordered a 580$ equipment stand from WebstaurantStore for the BP that was delivered with some dents. They sent me a replacement and told me to just keep the damaged one. I have since ordered another table and griddle utensils delivered without incident. Other than large family cooks, I oftentimes only utilize one zone for the two of us.

Unfortunately, the newer 17” BSs I’ve seen have a rear grease trap. Bummer!

TIP: I fold a couple of paper towels and place them in the grease tray, makes cleanup much easier.
