  1. The manufacturer of the on-board jacks does NOT recommend using the jacks to lift the weight of the trailer even as a temporary use for changing a tire. New model trailers have an extended steel sub-frame assembly that provides ample room for a jack point either in front or behind the tire that needs to be changed. Older models may not have enough room on the steel sub-frame to use a lifting jack(scissor jack or bottle jack). If this is the case you will simply locate the main frame rail point closest to the tire that needs to be lifted and use a lift pad that will help to distribute the weight. Owner’s manuals may state different things as changes occur every year in the RV industry. There are several reasons why these changes might occur from year to year or even in the middle of a production cycle. Sometimes new industry standards/codes are introduced and changes have to occur to meet these new standards. Sometimes components are discontinued and replaced with a new model that may not work just like the previous model. Sometimes companies simply make a decision change within the company to market their product differently. These are just a few of the reasons that change happens and why your owner’s manuals may be different. Product information is provided by the manufacturer of the component and is available online in the Oliver University section. Oliver strives to provide accurate information to every customer. The product information on components not manufactured by Oliver is dependent on the manufacturer or supplier supplying us with the correct information and as such may not always be 100% accurate.

  2. It didn't take us long to see the benefit of having a screen door handle but I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in my screen door so I made these plates to install the handle without drilling. I used 1/8 inch X 1 inch aluminum and drilled and tapped for #8-32 X 3/8 SS screws. The plates "rotate" into place with the hook at the bottom fitting into the cross bar of the door to keep the assembly from sliding up in the door channel. I shortened the handle tube to 19-13/16 inches, slid the end caps on and attached the assembly to the adapter plates. [attachment file=127613] I know, a lot of trouble to go to when I could have just drilled the holes and been done with it but I think it makes for a cleaner installation.

  3. I have thought more about this incident and have revisited comments on the thread accessed by the link that I mention is in the article. These comments are in response to Ryan Andersen's "apology" and request for people to help him "make it right." (There are some quite interesting comments, by the way, on this page. Many folks ask questions, such as Why does he carry around different license plates and Does he always get his kids to change them when he commits a crime? The only response to them so far seems to be a canned one, perhaps written by his lawyer.) I added this comment on that thread: "I have thought more about what you can do--after you have caused so much damage to a monument of the American people, your children whom you have given such a bad lesson (who may see your example as a message that they can selfishly and dishonestly disregard the rights of others), and the other employees of your company. "Some folks have pointed out that the damage you have done to the reputation of your company and the inevitable boycott of your company will hurt innocent employees. You can avoid causing this future pain and suffering to others by resigning from the company and turning it into an employee-owned business. "How about that? If you really realize how wrong this was, how much damage you have done to others, and you really want to make amends and avoid causing more pain and suffering to others, start this process now. Otherwise, I and others will know that you care only for yourself, and the only reason you are apologizing is to avoid as many of the consequences of your actions as you can--actions, I need to add, that cannot be blamed on a "spur of the moment" mistake. A person who would do this as an adult with his children watching and then get his children to change license plates (again, I ask, what kind of guy carries around plates for this purpose?), reveals a character that should not be trusted to run an honest, legitimate business." I hope that OTT will refuse to do business with Ryan Andersen. I hope that his company can survive without him, and that his employees will not have to suffer from his crimes. I hope Ryan Andersen does the right thing.

  5. Anderson hitch?, no thanks, Anderson Levelers?, no thanks. The Blaylock's are better. Oliver should just dump Anderson and if they show up to the rally, make sure Ryan brings a dunk tank with a lot of baseballs.

  6. I hope this isn't a repost. The crank to manually operate the front jack is too short to use with the propane tank cover in place. A regular 3/8 inch drive ratchet extension turned around works as an extension for the manual crank. A 6 inch extension will work but a longer one will allow the crank to clear the propane cover.

  7. It's easier to remove and install the spare tire cover if you stick something about 2-1/2 inches long in the spot where we used to put our gas cap (while filling up) when the gas fill tube was located under the car's license plate (years ago).

  8. The spare tire all thread is 5/8"x11 thread. I have thought about drilling a hole through the all thread and using a small padlock. Might keep the opportunistic thieves at bay. But Bill brings up a good point, I rarely pass up an opportunity to have my hand slapped.?

  10. Not sure what that tread size is but I've used McGard outboard motor locks for similar applications. You might be able to use one as either a jam, or replacement for the hand nut. There are a number of tread options: https://shop.mcgard.com/products/marine/outboard-motor-locks

  11. What a wonderful solution you devised! I have that same handle but have been too afraid to drill into the door to install it. If you do make some to sell at the rally I would certainly buy a pair!

  13. I'll have to do that. John, if you're adding extra ports, you might think about placing one in the hidden compartment. Oliver added one for us and it's great for charging iPads, laptop, etc. while stored out of sight.

  14. I know some will disagree with me on this but this is what works for me. I am on my 4th Dill system on the Oliver. This time I just purchased replacement sensors and stems as I kept my head unit from the system on our Escape. I have never added one to the spare and I don't rotate the spare to the ground. I have never found a need to rotate trailer tires. On a properly set up trailer they should all wear the same. There are no driving wheels or turning wheels on a trailer. I keep my spare at 80 psi and since I run my tires at 60-65 psi, I only need to check it once a year. I am from the school that unless you put on lots and lots of miles you will not wear out trailer tires. They will usually age out first. I replace all my tires on a 5 year cycle. I have been using the Dill for 11 years and never had a problem so I am very comfortable with their warranty. Here is the proper page for the Dill trailer systems. http://dillaircontrols.com/dill/category/products/tpms/trailer-tpms/ More info http://www.trailertpms.com/home.html The one for 4 tires is the 1504-416 and I purchased it from Tire Rack. The head unit will monitor up to 10 tires depending on how you program it. Just buy extra sensors. https://www.tirerack.com/tpms/detail.jsp?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnqzWBRC_ARIsABSMVTM9ccVW2wjNOaeifeSdQNCVQOhltY4JXiwVrpbRJmdkv0GNLkTfpeQaAnACEALw_wcB&ID=2179&cat=Aftermarket+Systems&affiliate=HM5&ef_id=Wq-U_QAAAMrVVkN7:20180409131828:s Replacement parts https://tires.tirerack.com/tires/Dill%20Tpms

  17. That's funny, but it makes sense. While boondocking, we don't have to do business with companies we don't like. That's part of the reason we go camping-to get away from it all. It may be unfair to beat-up on Anderson, but I see some parallels to his company. I've never been a fan of Andeson hitches and have discussed that position here. Questionable design and knee-jerk responses to questions or problems that just doesn't make sense, or are unsafe. It's an unproven design that requires the public to do the beta testing. Now, he's so sorry about the graffiti, but at the time, according to the witness, refused to stop doing it and sent the kids down to the car to "change" the license plates. What? Does he keep spare license plates handy and tools for the kids to change them? I don't know anyone who is honest, that is prepared to do that. Sounds like he's in over his head on a couple of fronts. I feel kinda sorry for the folks that think they have to buy that hitch in order to make their Oliver safe to tow. A large extra expense that is completely unneeded in most cases, and a questionable design.
