  1. While I have a "junk" drawer, there are items that I wanted to store in the nightstand but would get lost if just tossed into that large drawer. So, I took measurements of the existing nightstand drawer and went on a search for a "tray" that I could place on the top of the sides. I did go to various "office supply" stores looking for a tray that had "rails" already built in but I simply could not find what I was looking for and the only "tray" that I could find that was about the right size to fit between the sides of the existing drawer was available at Target. I cut two lengths of aluminum 1/2 inch angle and bolted these to the sides of the tray. It now rides nicely on top to the sides of the nightstand drawer and still allows easy access to the main area of the drawer below. After a season of use, I did cut off part of the tray - about 2 inches - so as to allow easier access to the main drawer below. This shorter tray is also easier to remove from the drawer making the two "finger" holes that I drilled in the front of the tray redundant. Bill

  2. Some time ago I posted about camelcamelcamel amazon price tracker, a web site that allows you to see price changes over time on specific Amazon products. You can also set up alerts for price drops for a good deal on camelcamelcamel. It is my impression that a number of Oliver Forum users use camelcamelcamel to track price changes for travel trailers> products. I went to the camelcamelcamel web site today to see about product prices, but they are down, because of multiple hard disk failures. They are asking for users to donate via PayPal, so that they can replace their hard disks. I use camelcamelcamel all the time, so I made a donation. It is like making a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation that supports Wikipedia. I use Wikipedia regularly, so I make regular donations to them.

  3. I've been searching the internet looking for a hitch to tow my soon to be Oliver. I wanted something tough, adjustable and I only wanted to buy one. My TV has a 2 1/2" hitch receiver so I also wanted one that size. My thinking on that was, I had really never seen a 2 1/2" hitch system so I figured that may keep down theft, I don't know. I've read about and experienced the hassles of properly weighing my rig and determining tongue weight of a RV. Well I stumbled across a unit made by a company called Weigh-Safe and was intrigued. It turns out that they sell a heavy-duty hitch with a built in hitch scale. I bought my unit from e-trailer it arrived in just a few days and I am very pleased with its construction. I'll post a few pictures cause I think its cool. I also bought the keyed alike hitch positioner and lock.

  4. Franklin Mountain State Park only has 5 RV sites. No hookups and no dump station. $7/night. It’s basically a small loop with three sites on the outside and 2 on the inside. Sites 1 and 2 are not very level. Site 3 (our site) was better. 4 and 5 on the inside are pretty level. We didn’t venture into the brush, it was just an overnight stop on the way to Quartzsite. We walked the road down to the tent sites.

  5. Thanks John for your quick response and many ideas. We particularly like the idea of the compression sleeves to make the bolts more secure. As a point of clarification, we are working with Rob Babcock, who built Pete's bicycle rack. We want to have a 2 inch receiver so that we can swap out our bike rack from the Oliver, to our Tundra. We are planning on using square stainless steel tubes, that will be mounted onto the side of the frame rails with a plate. I think that we will likely remove the diamond plate on the sides. We think that a side mounted rack would be more secure and stable. We are really enjoying our Oliver. Thanks again John, and everyone else on this forum-it is invaluable!

  6. Doug - I'd contact Rock Tamers directly with pictures of your hitch setup and ask this question since it is fairly unlikely that many other people have the exact setup that you do with the same truck, hitch, etc. Bill

  7. Steph, your Ram will do fine. Ours is similar to yours and we’ve towed over 30K miles so far. No issues! Mike

  8. Steph and Steve, Your Dodge Ram 1500 pickup is more than adequate and will serve you as a safe Ollie tow vehicle!!! We have towed our LE2 out west from the Carolinas with our 1/2 ton pickup and do not need a larger tow vehicle. We plan to tow Ollie with our Toyota Tundra for years to come!!!!! Congratulations on your new Ollie!!!!!

  9. Steph - Relax! Primarily, the basis of this discussion has to do with those people that tend to carry a BUNCH or stuff with them (i.e. a lot of tools, extra propane, extra kitchen sinks, etc.). If you are not full time living in the Oliver, are not pack rats and/or do not carry a bunch of extra stuff all the time, I would not worry about it. The basic issue is the payload. Since you have stated that you have 1450 pounds of payload to work with then simply add the weight of the passengers (people and animals) plus all of the other "stuff" that you are carrying around in the truck and if it is below that figure - you are good to go. If it is above that figure then look for "stuff" that you really don't need to carry. For most of us this is not a problem. Bill

  11. I used the 3M Scotch guard. Bought it in bulk. Its suppose to not yellow and be easier to apply. Since I have not use anything else I can not verify that.
