  1. FYI: Quartzite "Proving Grounds" -- We opted-in on a Solar Tracker at the owner's rally last year which Coy and his business partner, Joe designed. It's been running straight through since arriving at the Q last Monday. The tracker uses onboard GPS, MPPT charge controller, and other programs to "track" the sun's progression throughout the day. It stows itself at sunset then "wakes" up after sunrise, resets its position and its 200W solar module angle to optimize power generation. Even with the low winter sun angles here at the Q, the tracker get's our 300A-Hr Battle Borns back to 100%SOC by noon-ish to 1pm. We're still putting it through its "shake-down" cruise during this trip. More later...

  2. We left southern Illinois last Thursday for warmth and good food. Arrived in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, last Friday. It was cool. Moved to Gulf Shores on Monday. Look out! Record breaking snow. The old record was from 1895 and was 3 inches. We had 8 inches here with lots of wind. Oliver performed great! Lows have been in the teens. I left the water dripping and my hose froze but luckily I had another. Oliver was not frozen. I then left the water running at a small stream with no more issues. We had full hookup so dumping was not an issue. We ran the propane furnace. Normally we use a small electric heater. Restaurants and everything else were closed for 2 days. It was enjoyable watching the locals reaction to such weather.

  4. I decided to get more into the proper balance of truck and trailer and purchased the Sherline Tongue Weight Scale. Love the simple design, ease of use and Made in the USA! I also have a dual-axle flatbed trailer which hauls our side-by-side and I need to get that straight where I can strap down the UTV further up or back to get it truly balanced to pull with a 1/2 ton truck. There is an Amazon business price at $152. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007REK28M?ref=fed_asin_title I tried it out today, though our Oliver has no water in the fresh tank, no clothes in the rear cabinets or closet and no food or other supplies in the pantry and fridge and no gallons of drinking water and various adult beverages in the floor of our Oliver closet! I will measure again next week prior to heading out to Quartzsite! After a first trip, we came home and measured 6,000 LBS for the Oliver. This was likely the average weight at the time, but after mods and more travel stuff we should be camped today closer to 6,600 GTW (will soon, but have not measured GTW recently). More or less empty today, I measured 565 LBS Tongue Weight, and being empty at say 5,800 LBS this is 9.7% tongue weight which is at the low end. My first thought is to think hard about mounting bikes or other cargo on the rear of your Oliver. Our OEM OTT 2" bike rack is removed and sitting in our shed. As mentioned, I will do this again next week when the FWT is full and we are packed to leave town! I like this little gadget!

  8. As I understand it from (the new) Jason at OTT, OTT will obtain the replacement burners from Truma and then send them to your selected Truma Authorized repair facility. (i.e. the replacement burners can not be obtained directly from Truma) So important to send OTT a copy of the picture of your Truma serial number (as directed in their correspondence) to get on OTT's list. They will notify you when your replacement burner is received at OTT and ready to be shipped to your selected repair facility.

  9. Nice, anybody out there with a Seabiscuit Oliver rear basket? I’m in the market for one and need some measurements. I’m at La Posa South and can swing by.

  10. @jd1923 -- Thought we'd finally meet in person, JD! We'll see you down the road, eventually, brother - take it easy! Here's a snap of @johnwen's OTT and @ScubaRx's Clam during a pre-sunrise puppy duty for Oscar... with the wind chill factored in its a balmy 25F here this AM. HA!: At last count, there's 6 OTTs and a BigFoot... I understand there may be more coming later this week. Staying on the warm side of the "Main Hatch" for a while - take care, all! Best,

  11. Hello All, I've been reading the forum regularly since 2017 and don't remember anybody mentioning this. The chromed taillight bezels on our 2018 tail lights were turning a gross matte green from winter road chemicals used in Minnesota and maybe a Colorado trip over I70 on my way to Moab in March a few years back. I found that etrailer.com sells just the chrome bezel separately and that I didn't need to buy the whole tail light if I wanted the taillights to look nice again. The replacement bezels are only $4 each, so I bought a set of six. Since they fit and are inexpensive, I may just buy another set and put them away for a rainy day. They are held in place by four tabs on the back of the bezel and old bezel just pops off. I've attached a photo of where the bezel tabs lock in on the light housing. There are four bezel tabs, two on the top and two on the bottom. I used a few thin screwdrivers and an old fillet knife to get them to pop loose. After learning where the tabs are on the first one it made removing the next five much easier. There are many other items on my trailer that are ugly due to unrepairable road chemical corrosion, but at least this one is fixed. Hope this helps someone else with their northern winter use trailer too. Ken

  12. Rheostat Install on AC.pdfHello, I am sharing instructions I developed for installing a rheostat on the Dometic A/C so the A/C blower motor's speed and can controlled and reduced, thereby reducing the excessive air turbulence noise. FYI, the file size is large, I apologize for this. I tried compressing the file prior to uploading, but most of the content disappeared each time I compressed the file. I also tried compressing the photos within the file, but this too did not work. Thanks, GG

  14. We have a Weigh Safe hitch which usually registers between 500 and 600#, similar to what you're seeing, when we're loaded and wet. And, yes, that puts us at 10% or less hitch weight. We do have a small cargo basket on the back. Nothing heavy in it, maybe 35-40# total. My tools are on the floor of the closet, as a counterbalance. No sway control, but we haven't had any sensation at all of the tail wagging the dog when towing. Maybe it's because our TV is a long wheelbase dually with the bed fully loaded with camping gear. I would be more concerned if our TV was a lighter vehicle with a short wheelbase, even though I've never heard anyone speak/post of their Oliver swaying.

  15. Rather than travel straight from Spokane to Seattle on I-90 (which is not that scenic until you get to Cle Elum), I recommend you go the much more scenic northern route through North Cascades National Park via SR20 (The North Cascades Highway). From there, head to Deception Pass State Park on the Washington coast, via SR 20. Then down I-5 through Seattle to Olympia and up 101 to Port Orchard. As long as you plan to go to Port Orchard on the Kitsap Peninsula, you might consider a short side-trip to Olympic National Park. All gorgeous that time of year.

  19. Thanks Bill, yes I've been doing my best to read all the manuals, watch all the official youtube videos, and peruse the forums and other resources on the site including the University. Definitely a steep learning curve but I'm getting there!

  21. Come up to Prescott on your way back to northern New Mexico! It’s snowing in Galveston TX and the pan-handle of Fla! Yet a beautiful 58F, no snow at 5400 FT in N Arizona! Can’t wait to meet you in person, my virtual Oliver friend! 🤣

  22. @jd1923 John as you know we are settled in here in La Posa South, we will swing by the dome rock rally for a visit but not to camp, too much work to break down/setup camp. I’m lazy so this is where we will stay until mid March!

  23. Revitalizing this thread with just a few more questions! Yes, here I am again..... Charger converter is 45A. All new wire will be 4awg. Still considering either the 1, 300amp Epoch or 2, 100amp Battle Borns.... My new block plan including the solar details. 1. Should I replace the OEM 30A breaker between the SCC and the battery with an 30A anl fuse? If I keep the breaker, how would you orient the aux/battery connections? 2. Given these new Lithium batteries have their own EMS, do I no longer need the OEM temp. sensor wire between battery and SCC? It's easy to keep but don't want to create data conflicts. 3. Where to put a battery disconnect switch? Between the battery and the shunt? Assuming the negative lead is the correct one to switch. Is this step even necessary? Any other comments very much appreciated. 🙏 Also included for your viewing pleasure is a pic of one of my leads off the battery. I sure hope Oliver has gotten a hold of better electricians. There are other crimps showing similar lack of attention. Any of you find similar crimps during your retrofits? Dave
