The worst problems I’ve seen while assisting other owners with electrical problems has always been loose connections. The fact that this setup requires you to cut the molded female plug off your existing power cable and replace it with the smart plug indicates to me there will be some screws involved in the attachment of the new connector. To me, herein lies the potential for future issues. Every melted wire I’ve ever seen has been due to a loose or frayed screw connection. If the system included molded plugs on a 40 foot cord, I’d like it a lot better. Of course, then it would cost $300.

Oliver will not make any substitutions or modifications during the construction phase. They probably would be willing to make the swap in service before delivery. If you have the ability to do it yourself, you should.

The main thing would be to keep it out of the weather. Direct sunlight, rain, hail etc. The floor being dirt wouldn't matter too much to me unless it flooded and turned to mud during wet weather. You would ideally want electricity and water available near where it is parked and easy access, maybe even pull thru but backing is not too hard to learn to do. A connection for dumping would be a real plus. Sounds like a great starting point.

There may well be some advantages with the Smart Plug, but I'm not too sure that I can see $150 worth of difference in this and what comes installed on the Oliver.

The right thing we did was to buy an Oliver. In fact, we've bought two of them. Any other brand would have turned out to be a disappointment. The thing I would have done differently would have been to buy the correct tow vehicle in the beginning instead of going thru five different ones to finally get to where I needed to be all along. Silverado Diesel 3500 HD, in MY experience with two different Oliver TT's and five different tow vehicles over a 15+ year span traveling over 150K miles. Also, you need to edit your poll selection to include all HD trucks (3/4 ton and 1 ton) of any brand. Everybody here knows (or should know) that anything smaller is a compromise when it comes to payload, fuel capacity and the requirement to use a WDH like the Andersen. I can't think of a single reason to NOT have a vehicle without a tow package.

All you have to do to experience this same range in a fuel based vehicle is just put about 12 gallons in at each fill up. The only difference is that filling up this way will only take about 5 minutes.

I'm surprised you left out Jack Daniels in Lynchburg, TN. After all, it is the most interesting and the oldest registered distillery in America. Just don't expect to drink there. Lynchburg is in a dry county.

If I were an Escape owner, I would be about to poop a squealing worm. If I had one on order, I'd cancel it. Escape did away with their own service department under the current leadership. Even if you need warranty work, you've got to find a placed and get it done elsewhere. The also went to some weird form of lottery where if you won, you could cancel your existing order and take the 'Inventory Trailer' du jour that week at whatever price it would have sold for. No choices of colors, options, anything. But, you could get it today instead of waiting until your due date which at that time was about 26 months out. I doubt they're still doing that. The company is presently owned by the hedge fund company KV Private Equity Fund I. Well, the good news here is that you've eliminated 50% of your problem. Now check for continuity between the ground wire at the pump and the frame.

The panel you are referring to was a sub-panel they used for a couple of years to supply power to everything above the belly band. You still have the original panel under the front dinette. Check there as the water pump is below the belly band.

Well, you know Airstream tried that when they bought Robert Johans original concept design for The Nest. He actually became the project manager on the Nest product development team at Airstream after the sale. The trailer was only manufactured for about 2 years and they dropped it, never publicly giving a reason. I stepped inside one that was on display at the Hiawassee Rally several years ago. The thing that sticks in my memory most was how HOT it was inside. It was like being inside a glass house in Mississippi in July. I would be really surprised if Airstream tried that venture again.

I got a return call from Southco. I was told what everybody has already said. All the keys are the same, they are just overmolded to make them look more like a real key and that these latches are designed for marine applications. I'm not quite sure how that last part makes any difference unless the company thinks that normally a boat would be away from land and therefore less likely to be burgled.

Although there’s nothing inherently wrong with your idea, I don’t think Oliver would ever make the changes you suggested, but if you thought your idea would make your personal ownership experience better, there’s nothing to stop you from doing it yourself. If you'll run those jacks down and take the weight off the suspension as other's have suggested, that side to side wobble will virtually disappear. Always put a block of some kind under the jack rather than running it all the way to the ground. One day you will forget to raise one and drive away. If it is not sitting on top of something that will turn over as you pull out, you will find yourself with a jack that now has a bent lower tube that will not go up. Hope you've got a hack saw with you because at that point, it's your only remedy. Oh, and that'll cost you $400+ to replace. Trust Me.
