There is not need to purchase a surge protector. All new Olivers trailer come with the following standard: "Progressive Industries EMS Surge Protector" (Cut and pasted directly from the standard features section of this website.) IMO, it is the best you can get and it is built-in so, no concerns of it being stolen. Andrew

Don’t forget if Oliver installs it, it will carry their warranty and that is worth a lot. I chose to install solar myself to save some money. I must say for the time and aggravation, I don’t think it was worth it and wished I had Oliver install it. Andrew

I must agree with Overland, the initial outlay is not a drop in the bucket. For us the value comes form: Zero maintenance - Zero Almost zero loss in total amperage while in storage Much faster charging times Can be charge at up to 50% of the total battery bank capacity/hour. On AC, we can charge at approximately 55 amps/hour, all the way to full! Less generator use when solar is insufficient. With our Victron battery monitor, we know exactly what our state of charge is at any moment No more concern about having enough capacity to make it through the night This all amounts to no battery worries for us and for that it has been well worth it. Also, Battle Born makes batteries that are designed to be installed vertically that allow for easier installation without having to mount the horizontally designed battery vertically. Andrew

I have installed two 100 amp hour Battle Born batteries in our Elite II. The battery tray will handle three of the standard batteries and four of the vertical batteries. The install of the batteries is simple and only requires a pair of cables to connect the batteries together. The Zamp solar controller can be changed to Lithium for the appropriate charge profile. You will need to change out your converter/charger to the Progressive Dynamics LiFePO4 model to provide the correct charging profile, when charging with AC. This is another simple direct replacement installation, with one screw and 5 wires. The only other thing you will need is a battery monitor that measures amps used, as volts is not a appropriate measure of the state of charge for LiFePO4 batteries. After purchasing a standard floor plan new, we decided converting from a bed to seating and back again was going to be just more that we wanted to do everyday so, I converted it to a modified twin bed myself. A little expense and a little effort and we love it! I needed the extra width at the head of the bed so we added a 18" x 36" "fill in" mattress between the two twins. Before and After pictures. 16 degrees here with only a little condensation under the driver's side mattress. We didn't have Hypervent on that trip but am planning on getting it now. Also, I am ventilating the basement storage compartment, under the bed, to allow warm air from the furnace/hot water heater area into the basement. Furnace on at 61 degrees, vent open in the bathroom and a window over the bed cracked open. Andrew

We tow an Elite II that weighs loaded, without water, 5,400 lbs. We tow it with a 2018 BMW X5 35d and it tows GREAT! We have towed about 5,000 miles, over all sorts of roads, including twisty mountain ones and six significant passes in the west up to 8,700 feet. Great power, ride, brakes and mileage. 17.8 mpg going from sea level in San Diego, CA to 8,700 feet in Mammoth Lakes, CA and 21.7 mpg coming back. And what a great vehicle to tour in, once we are at our destination! We tend to put about 1/3 of our trip mileage on w/o the trailer. We followed Andy from CanAm of Ontario's advice and we do use the Andersen WD hitch and we compress the red bushing 1/4". If you haven't done so already, I would check the AC breaker to the far left, on your power center under the dinette and make sure it is not tripped. It controls the charger/controller. Also, If you have two 30 amp shore power connections on your trailer, try the other one. Perhaps you transfer switch is not working.

Mac, I went on YouTube and watched a couple of videos. We set ours to "Auto" and "Furnace" and that cycles on and off the furnace based on the temperature set. Andrew

I am not with our trailer to look for you. I thought it was "Heat" but perhaps it was "Furnace". Do you have that option? "Heat" maybe the heat strip in the A/C. If that is the case, that may be the answer to your problem. Sorry if this did not help, Andrew

If your thermostat is like ours (A Dometic Digital - Hull #468) and you only want the furnace to operate, you need to set the thermostat to heat. In this setting the furnace will cycle on and off based on the temperature you set.

We have a 2019 Elite II and have camped with temperatures at night down to 16 and above freezing during the day, without any real problem. One morning the temperature in the refrigerator was a little high so, I turned it off and back on again and everything was fine. I don't know if there was a problem or I was just being overly anal with my new baby. I did check with Jason, from Oliver service, and he confirmed with the manufacture there is not a "freeze kit" specifically for this refrigerator. A freeze kit is a 12v heat strip that wraps around the coil in the back of the refrigerator, that is designed to allow the refrigerator to work down to zero. They do make this kits for larger refrigerators and Jason said it could work but the manufacturer did not recommend it. In my opinion, I think the refrigerator worked fine. I hope this help, Andrew

We have the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 and the BMV-712 battery monitor. As Overland said, we really like how they work together and you can access many Victron products from one App. Went with the 100/50 to help future proof it, incase we decided to expand our solar. Using two 100ah Battle Born batteries and the 340 watts of solar seems to be well matched.

Bill, Oliver prewires and installs the aluminum plates on all of their trailers regardless of any solar being ordered. Andrew

I just completed an install of two 170 watt Zamp solar panels, a Zamp three port combiner box, a Victron SmartSolar 50/100 MPPT solar controller, a Victron BMV-712 battery monitor, a Progressive Dynamics 60 Amp replacement converter and (2) Battle Born 100Ah 12V LiFePO4 batteries. I worked with Jason (Oliver's Service Manager) to complete the install as close to factory as possible. I have attached the pictures I have of the installation. Bill, We have hull #468 that we picked up at the end of May. The furnace works great and we have camped in temps down to 16 degrees at 8,700 feet. I would not be concerned. Andrew

We just got back from camping five nights at 8,700 in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Overnight temperatures were as low as 16 degrees. One night was 21 and windy enough to shake the trailer with the stabilizers down! The furnace worked just fine, other than eating up the propane. Sorry you had problems. Andrew

I am in the process of modifying our standard floor plan to a modified twin bed floor plan (pictures to follow when complete). I ordered the twin bed rails and installed them as directed by Oliver. The bed rails were installed with nothing in between the rail and the hull and the rubber gasket, on the ledge the table sits on to make it into a bed, removed . I used eight rivets on each rail and the rails seem very secure. The problem is when you sit on the edge of the bed, there is significant gel coat to gel coat creaking. I reached out to Oliver service and Jason suggested using double sided tape between the rail and the hull. I have put a 3/4" strip on either side of the rivet holes, on the hull, and one on the vertical ledge surface. I did not remove the backing from the tape and tried a test fit. The creaking is significantly diminished but still present. Is this normal? Thank you for any insight anyone has. Andrew

John, Very well put and I agree 100%! I would take this on myself but, I have been so unimpressed with Andersen's customer service, I can't stomach attempting to get through to them again. Please push your point a view on to Anderson and let them know a number of Oliver owners feel the same way. You may try Spencer at Andersen, he seems like he cares. Thank you, Andrew

Trainman, It is the new design. I contacted Archie at Andersen and questioned him. He stated it was normal and I should only raise the tongue enough to take the weight off of the hitch and no more. For me, that is not enough to be able to remove the triangle and I have to loosen the chains . As you know that is not the most convenient. Andrew

You have to watch that you don't raise the trailer too high. If you do, the ball shaft will come loose from the bushing and pop up enough to jam the attachment point of the triangle against ball housing and make it impossible to remove the pin. I have been able to get it just right about 50% of the time.
