Well, two things. On old school push button phones, stuff would get gummed up, over time. I'd unplug the phone, and push sharply and repeatedly on keys, and try again. Usually worked. (Worked on my mom's TV remote a few months back.) If that brings no joy, open up the battery compartment, remove batteries, and clean the contacts. Reinsert batteries, and see if you have success. If that doesn't work, if it were me, I'd be ordering a new remote. Then again, could be the receiver in the fan...

Prime deals on Battleborn and Renogy suitcase solar
SeaDawg replied to SeaDawg's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it looks a bit crude, but he did remark on the strength of the case, which in other teardown hasn't been so good. Kind of irrelevant, since case looks different, two year later. Since we often camp in cool weather, and sometimes into below freezing temps, wouldn't probably work for us. Unless, we monitored (yet another thing!) carefully, and disconnected from charging below freezing. Price is great. For folks who don't camp in cooler temps, might be ok. Idk. I really respect Will's opinions. I'm surprised, actually, that they haven't added a low temp cutoff. -
Prime deals on Battleborn and Renogy suitcase solar
SeaDawg replied to SeaDawg's topic in General Discussion
LiTime is a new name for AmpereTime. You can take a look at W8ll Prowse's review, and teardown, here, from two years ago: -
Amazon Prime specials on a couple items frequently discussed here: Battleborn 100 ah 12v battery is $719. Renogy 200 watt suitcase solar (36 pounds) is $298, so about $1.50 a watt.

Is my asking price for "Mouse" too high?
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in General Discussion
Actual age, with our ollies, is pretty much meaningless, if properly maintained. Mine is 16 seasons young, and no one believes it's true age. It's all about the owners devotion to care. Yours is quantified, and verifiable. -
Is my asking price for "Mouse" too high?
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in General Discussion
Truth is, many people join the forum to see classified, when they want to buy, and don't know the impeccable history of "mouse." , because they haven't been long term members. An amazing Ollie. They may buy one of the cheaper, unknown trailers, sans all the great upgrades, not as well maintained, and wonder, gosh, I bought an Ollie, and.... (it leaks, windows are fogged, jacks don't all work, batteries need replaced, etc.) And, or, no solar, no lithium, etc etc. I personally wouldn't hesitate buy yours, and travel cross country for it. And after purchase, tow it anywhere in North America. Well documented. Supetlativly maintained. Go anywhere, and no worries.- 14 replies

Can not log into the Oliver website and rewards program
SeaDawg replied to routlaw's topic in Getting Started
I followed Matt's link, and registered in a matter of a couple minutes. (Even though I don't plan to participate. Just a test. I don't think most people want to see a 2008 trailer, and, frankly, I'll leave it to you folks with newer trailers.) Worked great. Thanks, @MDuncan for the link. I used the 2nd link. -
Very low water flowing from faucets when on city water
SeaDawg replied to MnG KY's topic in General Discussion
If that is working, I suggest, til you "get back to civilization,: that you simply work from the tank, as we do. Change up the incoming source to tank fill. Can't leave it running 24/7, or you'll have a huge mud puddle under the trailer. Fill the tank til overflow starts, and turn off water supply. Good luck. -
Very low water flowing from faucets when on city water
SeaDawg replied to MnG KY's topic in General Discussion
Are you sure you are connected to city connection, or filling the tank? City water supplies its own pressure, from the tap. From the tank, the pump must create the pressure. On city water, the pump should not be engaged, and should not run. -
Very low water flowing from faucets when on city water
SeaDawg replied to MnG KY's topic in General Discussion
You should not have the pump turned on with city water connection. (See @mossemi post.) When we get airlock in the cabin cold springwater system, we turn only one cold faucet at a time. It starts slow, then goes on. Trickle eventually turns to a stream. It may fill your greywater, so be careful there. You can leave grey water valve open, not black, if on full hookups, connected to septic. If you've truly checked screens, and have no debris, airlock is the most likely culprit. Especially if you've always used softened water, heretofore. -
The "skottle" is a really cool piece of gear. Does yours fit on a jet burner on a little bottle, if necessary? Love the concept. When we van camped around Iceland several years back, I wish I'd known about it. Making dinner for two on a jet burner, and minimal nesting cooking gear (think take it on the plane) was an exercise in ingenuity. That would have just been great! (With a lid. The wind was often very strong.)

Solved that issue by buying mainly box wine. Unlike the old days, there are some decent box wines out there. But, my main criteria for wine is 1) does it taste good to me? And 2) does it trigger allergies? We removed our microwave years ago when it died from lack of use, I think. With your extensive outdoor cooking setup, you'll probably never miss it. We love the additional pantry space in our little Elite. I say, whatever works for you. Several ideas in this thread, from folks who converted.

Battery compartment door lock replacement
SeaDawg replied to StillGame's topic in Ollie Modifications
Yeah, they're probably just a little mom n pop, and their cousin built the website. 🙂 Their address is in one of those office +storage unit places, for small shops, low overhead. I personally prefer to buy from small businesses, just concerned for you with the warning, and poor recent reviews. (Then again, we know there are usually just two types of reviews, stellar and cellar. Folks with average normal experiences rarely bother....) -

Fwiw, uglyfish has pretty poor recent reviews, and when I clicked on your link, I got a warning ⚠️ about their website security? -
Battery compartment door lock replacement
SeaDawg replied to StillGame's topic in Ollie Modifications
If you don't have luck with southco, or truly want something immediately, you might try calling one of the bigger marine hardware distributors like jamestown distributors or boat outfitters. We've bought some quality items from jamestown, and their pricing is decent. -
@John E Davies posted a very complete guide to installation here:
-
What is your valve configuration? You need to pump the water in. Imo. Gravity feed doesn't work, at least for us.

I've read in comments that it's important to keep the carbon steel oiled after cleaning, just like cast iron. So, how do you find the touted "nonstick" feature of carbon steel? Similar to cast iron cookware? Thanks!

Active-controls soft start for generator use
SeaDawg replied to Patriot's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Yeah, @ScubaRx, The neutral ground plug is essential. I think activestart actually includes that, too, with the dogbone, in their kits. That was an unfortunate side conversation with me and max burner, sort of off topic. The neutral ground plug, as we know, fixes the floating ground issue of most portable generators. the activestart that @Patriot initially posted purports to supply the function of a soft start, but for the whole line in, not just at the ac. Allowing easier "ramp up", or adding in power, like a power auto former, but how it works its hoodoo magic, I'm not sure. Activestart markets their device as an alternative to soft start. I guess you or I could drill down a bit more? If the activestart actually works, it could be possibly a good solution for those who don't have a soft start, don't know how to install one, or don't want to void the warranty on a new ac, and/or don't want to get on the roof... $485 is much less expensive than an er visit. (If the thing performs.) But, it's expensive, and, as I said before, I've read it may cause issues with hybrid inverters like the victron multiplus. I'd value your opinion if you have time to look at the activestart. -
I'm not big on sets, either. I do have a Magma set, because I got a great deal on a marine site, that stays mostly on the boat. Nesting / little used space makes complete sense there. At home , I have a big variety. "Famous name" brands don't necessarily work better, or make you a better cook, imo. Many of my pots and pans at home are ikea 365, on sale, because they work on my induction range. When I bought the first few, I figured I'd need to replace them with something "better" in a year. Not so. Those "cheap" pans work as well as my expensive but not induction compatible Calphalon did on a radiant range. My fave skillet is a cheap one from tj Maxx or Ross, $20. And, my nordicware wok skillet, probably same price, costco. I have one small pot and one small fry pan from tj Maxx in the trailer, for the last 16 seasons. Small, fit the space, makes enough for 2 to 4 people. A lid from a thrift store. I'm not very brand loyal, I guess, when it comes to cookware. More "functional" loyal. I'm just intrigued by the idea of being able to use the same carbon steel skillet on the fire and the stove. Would be nice.

And, in the same flight, lost the "big bopper." We all know this song, too. Happy National Rock n Rolll day.
-
And, on the same flight was this huge talent. We all know this song. It was his version of a folk song, ticked up to rock n Roll. Rip, Richie.
-
Today is National Rock n Roll day, so, here's one from Buddy Holly. I used to live a few miles from Clear Lake, and the venue for his last concert, the Surf ballroom. The Surf is still open. Its partner facility in Austin (same owner) was my parents' fave weekend spot, and mine, when I was young , with family and friends. The Terp. Buddy Holly was an inspiration to many. Gone too soon, leaving Clear Lake.

I love my magma set, @MAX Burner, and use it often on the boat. I use felt separators between the nested pot, and wrap the whole set in a towel, close the bungee, and store it in a cloth shopping bag, wedged in a corner of the galley cupboard (boat), or closet (ollie) . Great set. They'll surely last a coulpe lifetimes. I have extra handles.
