Towing an Oliver 2 with a Nissan Titan SV
Mike and Carol replied to Imelda's topic in Towing an Oliver
I’m with BIll on this one. It depends. When I towed with 1500’s and the slope isn’t too steep it probably would hold everything at a stop. With a my current 2500 and torque at 900+ I’m not sure. The trailer wheels may not turn but the truck/trailer may not stay stationary. When I adjust the gain I don’t ever go for tire skids on pavement. Gravel, yes. On pavement I judge the amount of drag when I apply the controller and go from there - you learn to feel where it should be. I routinely apply the trailer brakes first thing when we start out in the morning to ensure the grab is enough and to work any moisture out. Mike -

You can have one installed in your current truck. Go to any local RV dealer, truck mod shop or trailer dealer and they should be able to do it. -

If you are going to tow with your current Titan you need to have a brake controller. It applies the trailer brakes when your truck brakes are activated and also gives you the option to manually apply your trailer brakes independently from your truck brakes. -
Yes, you don’t want to leave the black tank drain open - just when dumping. For the gray tank I usually leave it closed until I dump. If you want to leave it open it shouldn’t pose any problems except you won’t have gray water to flush through your hose after emptying the black tank. Mike

Several years ago, I installed a SiriusXM receiver and antenna in the attic. The antenna is between the insulation and the outer hull. I don’t know what size GPS you are working with, but it’s very easy to put it between the insulation and the fiberglass outer hull at the back of the trailer in the attic. If it’s small, it would not be noticeable to someone looking, but you would be able to easily access it. Mike

Hey Steve, glad you are following through and living your dream, although significantly modified. This is a great community and a good place to get any questions answered. If you make it up to the rally it would be great to meet you. Mike

Texas and San Antonio area Oliver owners - the CGI detailing team is coming back to Texas in early April to do ceramic coating for anyone interested. They were here last summer but we were in Colorado and missed them. Their web site is http://www.cgidetailing.com. If you are interested Colin’s phone number is (six15) 9 hundred-0648. Mike

What are these keys for?
Mike and Carol replied to John and Jodi's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Kerrville is a nice spot to camp. Downtown is nice and there is a big park down by the river. Some great restaurants too. We’re headed up to Austin today (Lake Georgetown COE) and will be back next week. -
Can I tow with 2006 Ford F-150 XL 4.2 L, 6 cylinder truck?
Mike and Carol replied to Melodyb's topic in Towing an Oliver
Welcome, Melody. I don’t have anything to add to the good advice above. This is the right place to get your questions answered! Mike -
Like BIll, we have separate switches for our outside porch lights. Not sure why that was discontinued. It would be nice to have an inside switch to control the electric element for the hot water heater, but you can turn on the propane without turning off the electric element. Mike

It’s been a very cost effective addition, tough and waterproof. -
Is campground occupancy down?

That’s where we stopped on our way home. It was 80 here today but will be much cooler and windy tomorrow. You’re bringing us cold weather! -

I’m sure he’ll be having a steak and lobster special for a few evenings. Since he’s next door we would probably get some on Sunday but we’ll be out camping! -
Is campground occupancy down?

Agree 100%. We routinely see empty campsites with reserved cards on the site. It’s inconsiderate. My brother owns a restaurant here in Boerne, TX. He had reservations for 290 people for last nights Valentine’s Day dinner. Steak and Lobster. 184 showed up. One customer bragged to my brother that he made reservations at 4 restaurants in town and decided on his. My brother asked if he canceled the other reservations and he said, NO! Why would he do that? My brother explained that he was turning people away who didn’t have a reservation and he had ordered food for all who reserved, so not canceling was totally inconsiderate. Maybe restaurants should require a deposit for reservations. Maybe campgrounds should charge a penalty for not showing up with no notification. How hard is it to make a call? Mike- 16 replies

We’ve seen public campgrounds busy and/or full the past year. We rarely do commercial RV parks and the few times we have they have not been crowded at all. Mike -
Our tow speed is normally 65. It’s always traffic and weather dependent. I will say that on I-10 west of San Antonio I will set the cruise control at 70, speed limit is 80. Mike

We’re in E section too and will stop by. I’ll have my banjo but since I’ve only been picking for a couple of years I’m not sure I’m good enough to join in unless everything is in G with I, IV, and V chords! 🪕. We haven’t had much owner music at past rallies. Mike

Finding a half ton truck with a payload of 2,000 lbs will be a challenge. I towed with two different half tons and found them to be fine tow vehicles although payload was in the 1,500 lb range. The Andersen WDH was required. The past couple of years we’ve had a 3/4 ton diesel and the difference is noticeable. No WDH, no worry about what we throw in the bed of the truck. Our payload is just north of 2,000 lbs. Towing is relaxed, no drama. I also use it as my daily driver, no issues. Of course around here big trucks are the norm. Mike

Rene, welcome! You made a good choice. We will definitely be looking for you out on the road! Mike

Same here. I used the same foam yoga mat that I used for the battery box door for the basement door on top of the white insulation that was there. Rubber gasket around the outdoor shower and wherever there wasn’t anything from the factory. Both the battery door and the basement door fit nice and tight now. I think it makes a difference. Mike

TPMS Sensors Stuck on the Valve Stems
Mike and Carol replied to Carl Hansen's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
If you have the TST you are saying that the wrench won’t loosen the sensor? Have you tried using pliers on the wrench for a little more leverage? I’ve never had mine stuck before. Mike -

I’m not sure where we’re going with this discussion. Are you saying that Oliver should not advertise their trailers as four season? We’ve had our trailer 7 years and I’ve never winterized. We camp year round and have had plenty of camping with temps in the 20s and a lot of camping in the teens. No issues. To me, that’s a four season camper. We don’t camp in single digits or below zero. To me that is an extreme weather camper. I’ve had the basement partitions out of the trailer and have seen the water lines that run behind the basement on the floor of the outer shell. They just lay on top of the insulation. I’ve considered wrapping those lines with insulation, but it is not a high priority because we’ve not had any issues with them freezing. A very gentle beating😊…. Mike
