Compared fuel burn towing Ollie with a Tundra with and without rear differential airbags over the same route, duplicating speeds. Something to occupy time while towing. Ollie in a level attitude compared to slightly nose down, found 1/2MPG better with Ollie's nose slightly down. Still tow Ollie in a level attitude because the black/grey tanks drain better at dump stations. Our average miles towed per day is around 250 miles. This gives plenty of time to wake up late, tow at a slower speed (better MPG), time to visit places of interest along the route, and plenty of time to set up before dark. We have towed up to 720 miles in a day when a Hurricane was moving up the east coast in an effort to get home ASAP, fuel economy was not very good that day. 🙂 -

While growing up with our kids we enjoyed attending concerts, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Rod Steward, Edgar Winter, and Fleetwod Mac. Even attended a Steam concert, hearing them play Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye. Still like these group's music. Also like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Chet Atkins. Lately enjoy listening to classical Italian like "Parla Piu Piano" and also songs like the Wilson's Sister's "Stairway to Heaven". -

+1 on Custer State Park! We had a Game Lodge electric campsite, close to the wildlife loop, saw many buffalo. Sylvan Lake is close and nice place for a walk: Badlands: Custer State Park: -
When we camp without shore power, sometimes I use the gen-set just to heat water in the hot water heater. It take 30 minutes to have enough hot water for two Navy showers.

We're happy with the Duracell 12V AGM Marine/RV group 27 batteries from Sam's for the past two years. Already have another job for the Duracells to be replaced with lithium.

Keep Ollie in an airplane hangar. Installed a battery master disconnect switch to keep batteries from running down.

A Tundra should not have any issues towing a single axle Ollie without WDH or trailer mounted sway control. We probably have one of the lightest LE2 Ollies @ 4900 to 4950 pounds ready to camp with tongue weight under 500 pounds, empty tanks and it will be getting even lighter after installing Lithium batteries. Found the 2016 Tundra to handle the LE2 easily without WDH with the highest mileage day around 720 miles. Our Ollie has trailer mounted electronic Sway Control and it has activated at least two times applying trailer brakes after coming down a mountain when halfway through curves. It was my fault because I was towing too fast. When the trailer mounted sway control activated I could feel the trailer brakes applying. When we purchased our new 2016 Tundra, also had concerns about legally complying with Tundra's operators manual for sway control just like LongStride. (Forgot about this piece of research in my previous post) Found this 2010 Tundra forum thread about Tundra's sway control from a Toyota training manual. This is why I installed a trailer mounted sway control. Going to replace Ollie's tires. The furnace outlet vent hose became disconnected under the sink in the bath. After installing tires & reconnecting the hose, Ollie will be ready to go! -
LongStride, Your Tundra will handle a single axle Ollie without a Anderson WDH without issues. After reading the same section in the 2016 Toyota Tundra's Operators manual, had the same concerns as you. This is my understanding of their operators manual and only my humble opinion: A trailer sway device is needed for trailers over 2000 pounds and something like the Hayes Swaymaster electronic sway control device will work mounted on the trailer unless a WDH is used, Have installation photos on an Ollie, if needed. The SwayMaster activates trailer brakes when a sway event is detected.

Galway Girl, In addition to dewdev's above post, you can get a specific build sheet from Dexter for your axles that show Dexter information for brakes, seals, bearings, and dimensional info. Most LE2 Ollies cannot use our axle information because Oliver ran out of 3500 pound axles while building our Ollie installing single axle Ollie 5200 pound axles.

We have had good results on Ollie using Meguiar's #67 Marine/RV one step compound then Meguiar's Flagship Marine wax.

My experiments are leading to how light can a LE2 be ready to camp with empty water tanks except for hot water heater. Looking at Lithium batteries for more efficient batteries that also happen to be lighter, too. Thanks,

Richard, We have experimented more than once with a one gallon propane tank to see how long it would last. This tank will last 4 days running the refrigerator and using the stove every morning to heat water for coffee and cook eggs. During experiments high temps during the day were 76 to 80F with low temps in the 60s. We use a gen-set daily for 30 minutes to power hot water heater for showers during the experiments.

John, Those would look good on Ollie. We keep Ollie on pavement 99% of the time. If we were going camping off pavement more, would seriously consider the AT3 XLT.
