OK, so I removed the speakers today in 3 Air Tags, the Oliver, my Ram TV and our precious GX470. The first two, I preserved 2 of 3 tabs, the third broke and stayed in place. I placed a small drop of Super Glue on those spots upon assembly. The third was the charm, all 3 tabs intact. I Sharpie'd the spots where the tabs are located, just in case, but hope not to ever have to open these again (battery change is simple twist of top metallic cover plate). So, my iPhone Find My app sees all 4 tags, you can click Play Sound the app thinking it's playing... but no sound. I can also track the tag. It shows me distance often and direction when possible. My question is what does the thief see? Given he has an iPhone and receives notice from the tag, a tag they do not own? Hopefully, they cannot track a tag they have not registered, now that we have the sound off.

Yeah, wished I read this before taping them into place! I will remove the speakers on the ones installed in vehicles but will need the speaker on my key chain tag.

Friction Hinges - Lippert - Another quick mod.
jd1923 replied to Ty J's topic in Ollie Modifications
Uninstalled, it does take a bit of a push to move one leaf 90 to the other on the hinge by hand. When mounted the door moves firmly and nicely. Can't imagine taking it off for not liking it. That guy now has 30 holes in his door and jamb! -
Friction Hinges - Lippert - Another quick mod.
jd1923 replied to Ty J's topic in Ollie Modifications
Installed our like-new Amazon set today. Amazon "like new" means somebody opened the box, retaped and returned it. Don't need to drill holes in the door or door jamb. The supplied 1 3/4" white-headed self-taping screws with square-bit drive were awesome. I have often pre-drilled for "self-taping screws", but these were sharp and strong of high quality, good hardware. You need a good 1/4" impact driver, no template, just center and get the first hole right. But WTF with this manufacturer drilling most, but not all the holes required for the install? Rarely or never have I run into this kind of BS. They put 3 pre-drilled holes in the two leaves mounting to the door, but only one pre-drilled hole on each of the three leaves mounting to the door jamb. Also, there was not enough screws supplied for all the screw holes suggested. I drilled one extra hole in each door jamb leaf (2 total vs. 3 per the instructions). This way there are 6 screws in the door and 6 in the door jamb to hold each hinge. I had just enough screws, with one left over! Nothing like a door with 5 hinges! It does hold steady wherever you put it. Can't stand the hold-open door latches on RVs and trailers. I always forget they're latched and then I shut the door, over and over again! Did somebody break the stock one on our hull, or did these come with only a very thin wire hook? Somebody must have broken ours before I got a chance to do so! I will be removing ours next. This way I'm certain it's not latched. Thanks again, what a nice mod! Heard about the friction hinge mod just 2 days ago and it's already installed for pennies. -
Just purchased a 4-pack, installed one hidden in the Oliver, our Dodge Ram TV, Chris' GX470 and on my keychain which I misplace on average every other week! Used 3M VHB to mount them in secure hidden locations. Not sure if I need the speaker removal (but will consider it) since if somebody steels my stuff, I'll know it in a heartbeat and would be in pursuit while dialing 911... Thanks for the info! π

When out in the wild, if you need to run your batteries less than 50% (lead-acid, AGM or whatever), just use the power you need for the night. An occasional down to 40% or less will not kill your batteries. Please just ENJOY your travels! I have an old 1992 Lexus SC400, an amazing rear wheel drive luxury sports car, a DR HT, with a brand new battery. It is an old car, and sometimes if I or Chris do not close the doors completely, an interior light will be on overnight. I have often found this car, 2-3 days later, with the battery discharged down to 3V, DEAD! Then I charge it slowly over the next 1-2 days, and all is good! Drove it again today, even though this has occurred 4 times. We all get hung up on what is BEST, but your batteries will be fine! Just try to enjoy your outing, without the anxiety.

Boondockers: What IF something... Happens?
jd1923 replied to BoondockingAirstream's topic in Ollie Boondocking
What if, you just enjoy the time?! Now wondering... re your Planet-of-the-Apes avatar... "What IF something... Happens?" What something concerns you? I have read this post now four times and I'm not seeing the question or concern. I've spent my life looking forward for the "what if's" and the more the better! Love the unexpected which is life! BTW, boondocking is far safer than living in the city, tent camping be damned! π€£ -

The Gaither Tire Jack and Your Low-Back....
jd1923 replied to MAX Burner's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Nice tool, though pricey (like everything else today)! I have a crowbar with a spade end I sometimes use this purpose. I also use a huge 6-ton floor jack and when it's time to remount, I lower the jack with the wheel in position and get it to the point the wheel only needs 1/4" lift to mount. Yes, save your back! -

Bathroom Heat - a more direct approach!
jd1923 replied to Snackchaser's topic in Ollie Modifications
@Snackchaser were you able to get to or see the "reducer" on the way to the bathroom duct? I guess it just goes to smaller diameter ducting, so nothing you can do about it anyway. -
I was going for classic looks, not the power of a late model. No DEF onboard. Hoping for more power soon, when I install the Edge Juice I got for Christmas! 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins 2WD 3.54 Posi Ext-cab LB

Pepwave Cellular Router and not the common install
jd1923 replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
Should have got the black Parsec Husky! π€£ I understand given our black GX470, but then I tried towing our EII with it and for me the platform was not stable of strong enough in mountain terrains, so we bought the white Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. If I was to install one in this SUV. I'd likely run the antenna cable by cutting into the rear spoiler where there is a harness already for the rear center brake light, with lots of room for the router behind the side panel in the RR quarter panel (I was back there last year running rear camera wires for a new Kenwood head). These can be too pretty for an antenna, but the roof rack would hide most of it. We're on the road this week and the Pepwave router is working great. It sends a strong Wi-Fi 5GHz signal throughout the Oliver, even 20 feet behind it, and everywhere around the campsite! Good thing we don't own AS trailers. I understand inside those tin cans you need to run a wired Wi-Fi Access Point since a roof-mounted antenna broadcasted Wi-Fi signal will not penetrate the metal hull. -
Simple AGM to Lithium Conversion question(s)
jd1923 replied to Danno and Donna's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Should not depend on make or model. Both SAE and RV standard wiring diagrams show the black lead to be a β12V Hot Lead.β If it was to only have 12V when running it would be called βIgnition.β Cars and trucks generally use red wire for BAT and yellow for IGN. Use voltage tester with truck parked and everything off, you should have 1 live wire in the black position. With solar and 4 HD lead-acid batteries, I disconnected mine. -
Simple AGM to Lithium Conversion question(s)
jd1923 replied to Danno and Donna's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Sorry, but the "unplug overnight" is BS! Uh, what if you forget? Understood that's the OTT company spiel. Give them another few years and they will not wire this at all. The ONLY reason for the black +12VD is for cargo trailers back in the day without batteries, so you can (when connected) run a dome light. There is no modern reason for a 12 AWG charge wire, to or from the truck! Unless next time you're wiring a new hitch plug, you want a little 12V shock. Disconnect this wire asap and never consider it again! There is no purpose, unless your "House batteries" are in fact just one group 24 "Marine battery." Is there an Oliver with less than 200AH in batteries? If so, you need to do much more than disconnect this annoying little wire! -
Yep, it looks like a bike water bottle, but I purchased these and removed the magnets (always save extra parts for future project!): Amazon.com: Magnetic Cup Holder, Durmmur SUS 304 Stainless Steel Magnetic Cup Caddy, Magnetic Drink Holder for Tractor Mower Truck School Bus Refrigerator Treadmill,Magnet Can Holder on Metal Surface(1Pack White) : Home & Kitchen The shelves used are these: Amazon.com: Z metnal White Wall Shelves, Small Corner Floating Bathroom Shelf, Lack Slim Metal Decor Display Modern Long Shelves for Action Figure Collection, Wall Mounted, Rustic, 16 x 5 inch, 2 Pack : Home & Kitchen And the L-brackets, needed a light-weight bracket are these: Amazon.com: WINKER Corner Brace 8Pcs Shelf Bracket Heavy Duty White Steel L WINKER Corner Brace, Decorative Joint Angle Bracket for Shelf 5 InchX3 Inch Shelves Wall Hanging Bracket with Screws(16PCS)) : Tools & Home Improvement Got cold today, so got the furnace running so the tape would stick nicely. Put a 2x4 behind the shelf so that both sides would be mounted equally deep, street and curbside. Also used another 2x4 as a jig to keep the shelf about 8" behind the light and centered to the upper cabinet. This shelf is designed for use while camping, not for use as extra storage while towing. It turned out rather nice, can't wait to give them a try next week!

At first, I did not think the smaller latches would work. So, I removed the latch from the small kitchen sink "junk-drawer" to the larger drawer below to replace the broken latch, so we could use it next week. My thought was when leaving next week, I would prefer the large drawer to be fully functioning and the half drawer would be OK if only connected on one side. Then when I realized the smaller latches would work on these slides, I installed the two new thin latches on the half-length drawer. You only need to drill one new screw hole. Either model will work on our drawers, and all is good now! Thanks @SeaDawg!
-
Thanks @mossemi, and @SeaDawg who wrote the manufacturer should be on the slides. I did not find a name on the slides but found part # 563H457-02B, which came up on Amazon as this: BLUM 563H4570B Tandem Plus Blumotion 18" Drawer Runner Pair for Face Frame, Silver - Amazon.com The latch mechanisms are much smaller on these. Last week, I took a chance and bought this Item: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08X1JLQSV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I was ready to return them today and thought, "Will they will work? And They did! OMG, I removed the OEM latch from the short drawer by the sink and mounted it to the larger drawer where the latch was broken. Then I put this set on the short drawer, and it works! All is good now! π If you buy these narrower mechanisms, they will work and latch to the slides. The original screw hole, the one closer to the outside of the drawer will work as-is and then, since these are narrower you will have to drill one new hole into the drawer bottom. Use a bit less than 1/8", only go only 1/4" deep and the original screw will hold tight. So, today I'm on Amazon to supply these links to other Oliver owners and this came up!!! Side to Side Adjustable Locking Device for 563/569 Series Blum Tandem Drawer Slide - 2 Pair (4 Pieces) with Installation Screws - Amazon.com Amazon is amazing, but their SEARCH engine S@cks! Why did this item not show up the 20 times I searched earlier? 100s of irrelevant items displayed every time! I just order this set for backup parts. OMG, I don't have to drive off Sunday with a broken drawer slide!

Pepwave Cellular Router and not the common install
jd1923 replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
@SeaDawg thanks for this data! Are you in Florida now? The Sunshine State with 8,400 coastal miles, 66,000 square miles of line-of-sight flat land and 22M people, mostly cell phone customers? I know you go to a Carolina home often, but likely not in February and I'm not aware of your Florida location. You should expect these numbers in major metropolitan areas. Prescott is in Yavapai County AZ (population only 240K). Our county is almost the size of the state of New Jersey which has 10M residents, or more if you count the illegals. π€£ It's amazing to get these speeds up here, at 5400 FT altitude, in the mountains! I was running errands today and noticed the 5G symbol at one point on my phone. Ran the Speedtest and got 332 Mbps! Last year with AT&T we'd get 10% of this speed on our cell phones. -
Simple AGM to Lithium Conversion question(s)
jd1923 replied to Danno and Donna's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Definitely disconnect the black 12V+ wire from the tow plug, regardless of battery setup. You still need the DC-to-DC charger, given you want to charge house batteries from the TV. If you direct connect TV Start and House with say 4AWG cable, your expensive new Li batteries will receive current at the voltage determined by your TV alternator. Also, whenever your TV is connected, engine not running, current would be pulled from all batteries. There may have issues mixing lead-acid in the TV with Lithium house batteries. I would suggest an "isolated" charger where there are separate grounds (4-wire) for TV and house: Amazon.com: Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-Volt 30 amp 360-Watt DC-DC Charger Isolated (Bluetooth) : Automotive You need the charger to supply Li battery manufacturer's specified Bulk, Absorption, and Float charge rates (there may be a 4th spec for Li too). Without this you will seriously harm your Li investment! -
Pepwave Cellular Router and not the common install
jd1923 replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
Drove the TV today to fill an LP tank for our upcoming camp. At a stoplight I thought why not run "Speedtest by Ookla" again, but this time while driving. Pulled up the app on my phone (phone Wi-Fi connected to the onboard Pepwave router with T-Mobile Business Premium 5G service) and clicked go as the light turned green. The test was bouncing from here to a T-Mobile server in North Las Vegas. Checked the readings when I stopped for LP. While driving in traffic at 40 MPH I was getting better speed (132 down) than the 100 Mbps service most of America has at their homes. I'm not seeing the 5G symbol on my phone in this area but have in other parts of Prescott. Is 4G capable of this download speed? On the way back it just started pouring rain for a few minutes. Tried the Speedtest in heavy rain and speed dropped down to 40 Mbps, still quite acceptable. The new tires felt good in the rain too. It's a rare case getting a rain test down here! There certainly is 5G service in many parts of valleys of Yuma, Quartzsite and the West Valley of Phoenix, where we will travel next week. I will report on how this worked after our next road trip. You got to get one of these! π -
I have one broken release mechanism, connecting the slide of one kitchen drawer. This is the only reason it is opening during travel, confirmed by the fact the other five drawers stay nicely in place. Other mechanisms will not remedy cause, i.e. replace the broken part. I'm still at loss in name of the manufacture, let alone a part number, not entering a service ticket on our 8-year-old trailer. We're leaving in a couple days, and for now will empty this one drawer. I'll figure it out later.
