Sept and October is the only time we will visit Colorado for many reasons. We had the road to ourselves in the Beast. Tomorrow we will tour Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We have had excellent weather and it was a beautiful day. We had the park pretty much to ourselves. We entered free with our senior pass. A must see for sure. Onward to Cortez CO today for more exploring. However, the good fishing comes with three "problems": 1 - getting down there; 2 - getting back up from down there; 3 - rattlesnakes! Certainly those three things do not take away from the beauty though. We are looking forward touring Mesa Verde NP and the Great Sand Dunes NP. With a month here next week and all the hiking we have done we have not seen one rattle snake in camp or on the trails. Onward! Note that I said that "the good fishing". While I've never actually fished at that access you mention, I've been told that it does not have the best fishing there. So glad that you two are having a good time and that the weather has been about as good as you could have wished for. Hopefully this weather continues for you! Bill p.s. Note that during the two times I did the hike down and back into the canyon, I too never actually saw a snake (of any kind). However, in two different fly shops I was warned - both about the hike and the snakes. The Aspens are just popping in peak color in many areas. We enjoyed a great lunch in town and took the free gondola ride up the mountain. It was short sleeve weather and really a great day. We will do a little exploring in Mesa Verde NP today. And we have had only a day or two of light rain in the last few weeks. We were busy finding a lunch spot, a little shopping, hit the farmers market and rode the Gondola, so I can’t speak to the CG at the end of Main. A great day! A convergence of a whole lot going on with nature that created these massive dunes. The scenery almost looks fake it’s so beautiful. It was 69d and sunny which suited us perfectly. Patriot Posted October 13, 2023 Author Share Posted October 13, 2023 On our way from Santa Rosa, NM to Amarillo this morning we just had to stop at the Cadillac Ranch and rattle can paint a Caddie. We then had a great Texas style steak dinner at the Big Texan…the steaks were excellent. I highly recommend the Big Texan for dinner if you are ever in east Amarillo. It was nice to be back in Texas if only for a brief time. Onward east to Oklahoma tomorrow.
