Removing Oliver Logo and Attaching a Replacement Graphic...

Recommended Posts

So... for those of you with "older" OTTs and want to know to what level your gelcoat has oxidized, try this:

Take off the Oliver Logo and find out!  Which is exactly what we did this afternoon - a couple plastic razor blades, a heat-gun, some "Goof-Off", and a little elbow grease and about 45 minutes later:

Screenshot2024-02-12at6_01_50PM.thumb.png.7afe8196f3093e6e5962fbbada85d672.png

The new graphic is from the movie credits - we've been to many of the places on the map and thought it fit our lifestyle...

Screenshot2024-02-12at6_02_06PM.thumb.png.c8f5c9f88f68c63f9e1410f143bbb33b.png

The graphic is held in place temporarily with painters tape and will be fixed permanently after we have CGI do their magic in Fredericksburg during the eclipse rally.

Screenshot2024-02-12at6_02_39PM.thumb.png.51d3066fe758f72c22e2cd5417460cd6.png

Yellowing was apparent but not as bad as expected.  Until the rally in April, we'll be using the same 3M anti-oxidizer that CGI uses to blend in the gelcoat with the Cyclo and bring it back to life.

Piece of cake...

Cheers, all!

Those chain sleeves really clean up the appearance of the Andersen chains as well. I had the Ollie Andersen WDH on my when towing with my former Tundra and like the sleeves well they looked sano!👍🏻😊

Just a thought Max!

I'll second that -

Makes keeping those chains cleaner looking without actually having to clean them.  Additionally, after awhile the chains will start to rust in spots.  With the sleeves you'll never even see the rust.  Therefore out of sight, out of mind.

Concur, 100%, @Patriot - Very sano mod, indeed.  Practically, however - they keep from chipping the black paint/powdercoating off the bulldog if they're wrapped over the top...   Good thought, David!

You'll want the graphics on before they do the ceramic coating, else it won't stick. Plus, the ceramic coating over the graphics helps protect them. If you let them know ahead of time what you're doing, I'd imagine they would polish the top front first to give you time to apply the graphics before coating.

Exactly right on, Steve.  I spoke with Colin yesterday afternoon and he's saying the same thing.  We're getting his recommended 3M gelcoat polishing compound today to cleanup some of the oxidation where the graphic will be placed before we get to TX.

I had just enough leftover web sleeving after covering my bike security chains to treat the Oliver tow chains. Marring the bulldog is one thing, but very expensive ebikes is another!

Well, "never" is a really long time!

And ""out of sight, out of mind" should not be taken literally.

As with virtually all things these Andersen Chains should be inspected at least annually.  With the woven sleeves mentioned, this is a fairly easy thing to do since they are normally held in place with one or two "zip ties".  Each Spring I simply clip the zip ties on each end and push the sleeve back as far as possible looking for damaged places in the chain and hit it with a power washer.  After it dries, the sleeves are rolled/pushed back into place and secured once again with a new zip tie.

LOL, I was thinking of someone covering their safety chains.  Since we see too often see other trailers with their chains sparking on the pavement.  But then we can't fix stupid.

Hull 218 aka Mouse has become my Land Yacht.  The decal came off with little difficulty.  Hair dryer and plastic scraper.  The residue was softened with Goo be Gone and the mechanically removed  Graphic with the plastic scraper.     There was NO oxidation visible.   John Davies took impeccable care of the trailer.  The Graphic is of my last Sailboat that I was sailing in a Single-handed regatta, Port Huron, MI toMackinac Island.   I sent the picture to John and he suggested I change the name to “Long Time no Sea”.  Great name for Ollie.   IMG_0297.thumb.jpeg.1d3a9fb7dfba4f669ec8a35485905e7a.jpeg
