Fresh Water Tank Overflow Condition
jd1923 replied to Wayfinder's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Yeah but, I believe this related thread has shown a plugged screen can lead to a worse outcome. Not yet proven until @Rivernerd investigates further but the only way I see the fresh water tank can be pressurized is if the overflow is somehow plugged! -
Touch up for INTERIOR caulk filled holes

Very happy with the chill cube. Here is my post on Johns thread for the Furrion: Heat Pump update At the Oliver Rally in Lake Guntersville we had great weather. Daytime in the mid 70's so no opportunity to test the a/c. But at night the temps went down to mid / high 40's. Ran the heat pump every night set at 68 degrees. It would cycle on and off through the night... When it first started it was louder (about 47db) then it settled down to a very quiet purr (about 38db). I ran it up to 73-74 and it came on strong and warm still about 47db. Easy to live with. Can carry on a conversation even at its loudest. Very happy with the unit. My wife, Donna, is very sensitive to propane smell and reported a slight headache when we woke after using the propane heat. During the rally, she said there was no headache at all and she loves the heat pump. I am certain that after the 900ah upgrade we will be using the chill cube pretty exclusively for heat and a/c. It does remain to be seen how the condensate issue does in the East during a hot summer. You'll have to wait on that report. Scotty -

For those who could not make it to the rally. Here are some Apex shots up close. I had very little time to slow down at the rally and dig in deep into the Apex, but here are some very quick shots under the dinette and driver's side bunk, dust and all. Also attaching some exterior pics, including the single 48v Ecoflow battery. Sorry I don't have better info. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣! That depends on you. But given you have a thread titled "Dan's Mods" means it's in your nature, like mine, respect. But my guess is half of Oliver owners have not modified/upgraded one darn thing! Some are on this forum, some not, some still hanging onto AGM lead acid batteries and that awful TV, the ducts half blowing air, manual water valves, the basic RV microwave, 1750 LB springs with a known high failure rate and that freight-train Dometic A/C. You can decide to live with it all, or not. Heck, I have trouble convincing some of changing their unreliable Optifuse for a real fuse for the designated purpose of protecting the circuit. OTT stopped installing them. "It tripped" when it shouldn't have. The real question is will it trip when it should? But it would cost near $100 and take an hour of work. "I'm retired. and I didn't work all my life to..." or "I purchased an expensive camper and I want to spend my time enjoying the outdoors, not working on it." I do believe some in the latter statement, but with a little hard work, enjoyment of the outdoors may be greatly improved with pride of ownership. We have developed a culture that is much against the basic saying, "You get what you work for." Thankfully half of the world is ignoring what's popular and is still at work but it's a shame that number is not 80% or more. It's in everything we see on TV and online. I travel in our Oliver to get away and in doing so, I force myself to take some time off. If I'm home, I'm working. "a Gold mine" thank you, I like that! I learn by doing and I've worked my entire life. I'm here to learn first and then help where I can. Just 3 1/2 years ago I had no idea, "What's an Oliver?" I now know it very well, learned by tearing done and rebuilding every onboard system. I've been on the phone with OTT Service a couple of times. Those guys really need to own and work on an Oliver themselves to learn more. They're being paid to know more. My attitude is I can repair anything and I'll know how to do it as soon as I'm done. It's just a positive mindset! But seriously, I want, we need a fully capable camper. It's unsafe to have an unreliable camper when 100+ miles away from services off-grid. In our 198 Oliver overnights, not one repair was made while traveling (presently knocking on my forehead and other hardwoods within reach). We did have a bathroom water pump switch issue last outing, but since it happened on our last night out, I decided to fix it the next week at home. I could have, should have secured this wiring when I was in the vanity for other maintenance. Every other week someone on this forum has an issue while traveling; no hot water, no heat, no 12VDC, fridge not cooling... There's (only) about a dozen of us here that provide help and we're happy to do so. Three years ago, I was asking for help. I spent a full 2 years in upgrade work. At first, I had no idea where to start expect the lame TV was obvious. Got most of my ideas here on the Forum, reading about other inverter or A/C upgrades. In 2023, I started by reading everything the great John E. Davies posted. He was still on our Forum for about 6 months after I joined so there was some time for discussion. Three years later, I've done many more upgrades than he. I am about done. We have the electrical, mechanical (HVAC) and plumbing systems we need, a newly replaced 10K suspension system and a full exterior restoration. Our TV is also restored and in good maintenance. My Oliver to-do list is down to scratch, so I'm back to working on our house and property (new kitchen sink, stone masonry work, new 14-step deck staircase with hand-cut stringers, and yardwork). The real list never ends. Call me strange, but I enjoy yardwork and repair work. I'd go crazy laying at the beach or sitting in a lawn chair reading a novel. Only manual labor allows my mind to rest (or dumb TV shows)! 😎 "When will it end?" Given you started with an well-optioned 2026 and you've already coating the exterior, your path should be much shorter than mine. Some guys always have "the long list." I read about your music, your desire for better lighting and drinking water, and my guess is there's much more to come as you turn your imagination to reality. You're now the one giving the rest of us good ideas. Please keep doing it. Give it a year or two with more of your hard work! 😂

Shower drain pipe: Is this normal?

I wonder if this is what happened in @Rivernerd's case, where the fresh tank pressurized? Same with our 2022. -
Posted an error on original posting. You can start reserving sites NOVEMBER 5.

Shower drain pipe: Is this normal?
Jim and Chris Neuman replied to John and Jodi's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I had the same issue with the fresh water tank overflow hose. The hose on our '21 Legacy 2 was too short to reach from tank to outlet fitting in a smooth, gradual arc. Instead the hose was pulled tight and installed with a kink which soon split dumping overflow into the bilge. This was something that absolutely should not have occurred. Overall the workmanship on our trailer was good but the plumbing was sloppily done ... many loose fittings, etc. Ours was a covid era trailer and it appears many of the QC inspections simply went by the board. -
Shower drain pipe: Is this normal?
CRM replied to John and Jodi's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Well, they must have changed things along the way since mine is installed completely different and done correctly with a horizontal section after the P-trap. The sink drain runs above and parallel to the shower drain and they both dump straight down into the grey tank. -

The A/C upgrade is on our list for next spring. Before we purchase anything or begin the installation, I'll go back and review the forum discussions and your post to refresh my memory. I may reach out with a few questions once we get closer to the project. -
Buffing and Waxing my Trailer
Dean and Mary replied to Trainman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
John, that’s a lot of great information. Thanks for sharing the details. This will most likely be my next DIY project. I’ve done quite a bit of reading on the forum about how to achieve the best results, and I have a Little Giant scaffold that should make the job easier, or at least safer. -
Many do not know yet, but some do, Aaron had several of us act as "regional leaders" at the rally in an attempt to gather and organized information from folks in their respective regions about creating "micro rallies". We will be working towards a better solution to have folks fill out a basic form to provide their ideas and level of participation in these micro rallies. This will help identify folks who would want to organize, help organize, or simply participate in a rally. We had a good number of new Oliver owners, some of which have never joined a camping rally before. Exciting times for them to come. More to come as we get it. For now at least, here are are the regions are grouped (By Oliver): Region participation by 2026 Oliver rally attendee count (Created by Oliver) Region Name Region States Attendees Florida FL 34 Home Region West TN, KY, AR, MS 39 Home Region East Al, GA 33 Atlantic & Northeast NC, SC, VA, WV, MD, DC, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME 38 Central & Great Lakes OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, IA, MO, MN, ND, SD, NE, KS 42 South Central TX, OK, NM, CO, LA 35 Northwest & Rockies WA, OR, ID, MT, WY 5 Southwest & Pacific CA, NV, AZ, UT, HI 5

Starlink Mini a Simple Mount or Stand
DanielBoondock replied to jd1923's topic in Ollie Modifications
And here I thought it was me ... yeah haven't measured it but seems like usable is much less than expected out of the tank. Otherwise awesome thanks, your approach is similar to mine. We don't drink from the tank and have extra Reliance 5-7 gallon jugs for that, though I'm looking into hooking up the Blu-tech filter+UV off the tank. We have composting so the fresh water is the biggest constraint. You're a gold mine of useful tips otherwise as usual ... related thing, my wife is very safety conscious after we've been chased from the house due to wildfires a few times. I'd like to keep both the onboard Oliver tank and the truck tank always filled, I'm looking into preservation ... Yeah just being sloppy, been doing this engineering and IT stuff so long I'm getting really lazy 🙂 Anyhow this is another project for the winter, when will it end? 😅 -
Thank you to everyone for another great rally — it’s always a joy meeting and reuniting with the members of our beautiful Oliver family! A special thank you to *Nancy* for her hilarious and highly popular Morning Coffee With Oliver Halloween setting; you deserve an award for bringing so many laughs! Safe travels to all, wherever you are headed — I hope to see you down the road.

During our 2026 CONUS tour our hot water heater inside switch would not fire off the hot water heater. 120V worked fire via the outside switch. Checked for power at the water heater and there was none. Pulled the switch inside aft of the stovetop and found power on one side of it (Had to run a temp ground to do so). Jumped the wires as JD suggested and yep it made hot water. IE Bad switch. To my amazement the switch was not just a single throw/single throw, but a double pole single throw. IE there are two seperate sets of switching terminals and OTT was only using one. Moved the two wires to the other side of the switch and problem solved. Good thing to know when poking around our 2018 switches. All that said, I am wanting to get a replacement switch for my spare parts box. Any sourcing info would be appreciated. GJ

I have been looking in Wisconsin. I ceramic coated my TV as a trial - its worth it in that case. On the Oliver it would make cleanup and annual maintenance so, so much easier. I have made a couple of local inquiries, sent pictures, the whole 9 yards. So far, they never call me back. I don't know but in retirement I tend not to chase after people. If they dont want the business or have the courtesy to reply then guess I am better off.

Bosker and I really enjoyed this year's Guntersville Oliver Rally. Well done Ollie team! Bosker especially enjoyed his cameo on the Morning Coffee at Oliver, with Aaron and Jason.

Dean, they were also too far away for me, almost as far as the OTT Rally and both are beyond our means. I spent time looking around online, thinking there should be somebody in the Phoenix Valley that would do this work closer to home. One company wouldn't even look at our hull due to its age. They only coat brand new vehicles, so no extra prep/paint correction (or gel coat) work included. Then talking to my autobody painter, he referred me to a local auto specialist who works paintless dent repairs, other detailing and custom ceramic coating, but he won't work with wax! I observed a few examples of CGI work at the 1st Texas Rally. Beautiful work, but sticker-shock was more my gut feeling. Their Oliver website page states "starting at $3K" and one advertisement stated another $400, shared travel cost per trailer, when they travel to do their work at a rally. My guy quoted $85/ft for the full length of the trailer, 23 1/2 ft hitch to bumper. He said, "That's what it's worth and more would be over-charging." His industrial shop (he works on semi-trucks too) is just 20 miles from our home. Cameron worked on our trailer himself over a 2-week period and into Thanksgiving holiday, because he wanted "another couple of days to get it right." It sure came out GREAT! Our Oliver sits in the Arizona sun 24x7x365. Ceramic coating it designed to repel UV rays and after 11 months she's still shiny. I'll go back for the annual service regularly. I only suds spray and pressure wash after trips when it really needs it. My arms, shoulders and body will not be used to wash or wax our hull, never have, never will. I'd rather replace trailer axles (done that) than spend a couple of hours with a buffing machine. And no wax required on ceramic. The restorer in me wanted to get everything else exterior done before, during and after! I waited over 2 years to work the exterior, letting it get pasty while doing all the interior mods (exterior restoration post linked below). We're going back soon for the annual "decontamination rinse and polishing." I expected it to be in the hundreds but he just quoted me $185 for the annual. Wow, something costing less than what you would expect is a rare case today. 😎 Maybe there's the right guy in your part of Colorado! Best wishes, JD

Buffing and Waxing my Trailer
Dean and Mary replied to Trainman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Hi Patriot, Your trailer looks great, and I wish I lived close enough to have CGI do some work on mine. I really like your hangar, and I have enough space on our mountain property to potentially build something similar. Would you mind sharing the make, model, and dimensions of your hangar? Thanks, Dean -

After having the guys at CGI buff, polish and ceramic coat XPLOR I will never buff or wax the exterior again. It also helps storing it in our Ollie Hangar. It truly looks better than the day we took delivery.

Same here! We miss seeing all of our Oliver friends. Actually, we haven’t been able to travel in over a year…🙁
