  1. Did someone say knives? There may or may not be a couple dozen more since that photo, depending on if Deb is reading this thread or not. 😉 My favorite is the Benchmade Model 970; their licensed version of Ernest Emerson's CQC-7 from the early '90s. I was trying to get in one Emerson's "Buy a hand made CQC-6 for you, and one for a deployed serviceman", but he was years out, so offloaded some manufacturing to Benchmade. Benchmade late made their own CQC-7, but not near the same quality. These days, my carry knives are Opinel folders (simple, sharp, reliable, and cheap) and/or a Victorinox Swiss Army knife, with Leatherman in the truck, trailer, and around the house. That's the name of my Dropbox folder!🤣 There a fewer flashlights than knives, but not by much of a margin. Like @Steph and Dud B, I still have my old 5-cell Maglite and a Surefire 6D Classic, both with incandescent bulbs. But several years ago, I converted both to LED using Malkoff Devices conversion kits. My only other Surefire is a G2X shown below. Most of my flashlights are Olight, Fenix, NiteCore, and Streamlight, but there are a few no-name Amazon models scattered around in cars, the trailer, or home. Deb says that I am a serial hobbyist, but I disagree. I can do all concurrently! 🤣

  2. Of you are not internet/social media savvy, I'd skip craigslist. Imo, too many scammers. I do buy stuff off craigslist, occasionally, but I see obvious (to me) scams every day.

  4. Sell it on Craig’s for half price and buy the PRO+ model. I remember choosing the PRO+ for an extra $20 at the time. There is a “wake on motion” setting, but I used the full ON 24x7x365. Must be some parasitic draw but I don’t care. It’s always on when I need it and no worrying about turning it on and off. I’m on my deck now 80’ away and it reads level from here. The Bluetooth on the PRO+ has a stronger signal than any Victron device or Ruuvi sensors. Very reliable product!

  5. January in Florida is unpredictable. Today, it was in rhe 40s when I got up at 630. By noon, somewhere in the low 70s, clear and lovely. We will see what tomorrow brings. For sure, I've never had to shovel snow, since I left the Midwest. Be careful towing in the snow. Safe travels.

  6. A few years ago I came across Talasbuan, a YT on the daily life of a couple living off grid in Northern Sweden. Perseverance and determination come to mind when thinking back about the lifestyle they adopted. Admittedly, I only ‘binge view’ now, but to date they have produced close to 150 episodes, impressive!

  7. I strongly suggest anybody buying new to get the PRO+ model and hardwire 12VDC, forget the batteries and the app should work too. I have the app up EVERY time we are parking and I get level while sitting in the driver's seat! Why buy the model that needs battery replacement? The new MAX model needs AAA batteries vs. a CR2032 battery (I recycled mine since it is hardwired). Don't know how to crimp two wires? Get somebody to wire it for you! Mine is wired under the rear dinette seat where 12VDC is readily available. It does not have to be in plain view. Notice it's mounted to the side of the shore power ATS box, wire harness coming down from the bottom, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083ZMZPR8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

  8. Paul, It may really be worth your time to dive in and get it advertised on Facebook Oliver TT for sale forum or just the FB market place. It’s not very difficult to list an item and you will be actually targeting/advertising to folks actually looking for an Oliver. In the last few years I have seen quite a few Olivers sold rather fast in the marketplace or the Oliver TT for sale FB page. If I were selling that’s where I would advertise. Best of luck, priced right it should move fast.

  9. Thanks Geoff, for again being a leader in technical electronic HW installations! Not easy to pair compatible electronics with so much in the marketplace! 😂 I will add a Starlink Mini at some point. Hope the HW prices keep coming down! Like the $50 monthly service option for the limited data plan. I would merely use the included 120VAC power adapter since we run our Victron MP2 inverter ON always. You wrote you would not "use that feature" but given I have a smart Pepwave router that can chose between 4-5G cellular service (T-Mobile monthly business plan with unlimited data) and a WAN RJ45 input, I'm hoping this is compatible in the way I'm thinking. This way you have one Wi-Fi login for all devices, not having to switch to a Starlink-only Wi-Fi. I would manage the settings to prefer cellular connection to minimize Starlink data usage for when it is truly needed. Has anybody else integrated cell and Starlink services in an onboard router? I will ask tech support at MobileMustHave.com where I purchased the Pepwave system for configuration help, and will post later when I get their answer. Another question is does the Starlink Mini have to be positioned at an angle? Thought I read somewhere it should be pointed at the northern sky. The manuals just show 110 degrees unobstructed is necessary. I see rooftop mounts that are flat and pole mounts that are angled. Can it lay flat to the horizon to receive signal or must it be angled? Best wishes and thanks again. JD

  10. I too have been annoyed by the Levelmate’s short battery life, and the auto shut-off feature doesn’t seem to work. It’s now mounted with thumb screws for quick battery changes. The On or Off label helps because it's hard to tell the switch position, and I usually have a spare battery taped to it too! It was originally mounted indoors and I’d always be calling wifey to turn it on. Now it’s in the basement closer to the jack controls and I’m more likely to turn it off there.

  11. Yeah @Steve Morris, you need to get south and get warm! 67F and partly cloudy today, here a mile high in the great SW! Too warm today to wear a sweatshirt in my garage while installing new struts on my ‘92 Lexus SC400! Love the people of the Midwest and the ethnic foods in the city, but... We left the Windy City a full 25 years ago and not looking back. Too cold!

  13. Safe travels !! We didn't get that much here in southern Ohio but winter looks to be long and cold this year. Getting closer to be able to escape Ohio in winter. Looking forward to meeting up again at the Rally.

  14. 10 days to go. 4-6" of new snowovernight in the driveway, and 8" near the house and on the sidewalk. This is our first real accumulation of the year here in northern Ohio (only 0-1" prior.) The bad news is that it will not get above freezing before we leave next Monday, so I won't be able to de-winterize and fill the fresh tank before leaving. And we'll also probably be at a motel the two nights coming down instead of at Cracker Barrel. I'm sure glad we got a full hook up at the Eggs 'N S'mores Rally this year, so I can flush the lines and fill the tanks when we arrive at the rally! I'm going to have to find a truck wash to get the salt off of everything before getting to the rally.

  17. Now that our Oliver is so nicely setup for boondocking, extra 35 gallons filtered fresh water in the TV, plenty of battery power, power accessories and tools, etc. it makes what they do seem so difficult. In one video Ozgur sets up an outdoor shower. They wash their faces in snow in another video. Watched one last night where their tent on a cliffside was blown down in the high winds. The have a saying for taking care of their bodily functions, "picking flowers!" They work through everything nicely, though it sure shows the glamping luxury of the Oliver! I only tent-camped a few times through the years. Too old for that now! 🤣

  19. This guy, Ozgur Atik, never wears gloves when shoveling snow or splitting wood. One video he’s out in the snow barefoot. I’m just a sissy! Burcu is always making bread dough by hand. Onions in everything, love their campsite recipes! The Oliver is so easy compared to the many rigs they use. Except for a huge 4x4 camper they have named “Maniac.”

  20. Received this card from a longtime sailing friend today. Seemed appropriate. Loved the vid. I only snow camp by accident. Splendid in the Ollie. Not so great in my tent, back in the day. 😀

  21. @dewdev we stayed mostly at Love's during our trek down from Guelph (Canada) to Quartzsite recently, and we loved it! We did not stay at the Love's campgrounds, too $$ for our liking at $50ish when they also have free overnight designated RV stops. Obviously like Walmart and Cracker Barrel these parking spots are dry camping for overnight parking where you don't unhich, but they're open 24hrs, just off the main highway, facilities are clean, its safe, I get 10c off a gallon, and they have good coffee! Now that said, these RV parking spots are right beside the auto gas pumps (pic of Love's in Hubbard below), so it could be too noisy for some people, I sleep with earplugs and no issues with noise, and my wife sleeps like a baby even without earplugs.

  22. It's easier to just look at the back of the trailer wheel. If it has 4 bolts to the brake backing plate, it's a 3500 LB axle, 5 bolts then it's a 5200 LB axle!

  23. We have used a Levelmate Pro with Hull #1291 for 2+ years now. It displays trailer level on a smart phone via Bluetooth. It has worked well, albeit with frequent coin battery changes. So, in mid-December, 2024 I "bit" on an email offer from the manufacturer, Techno RV, to purchase an upgraded Levelmate Max for $165, which promises longer battery life (with 3 AAAs instead of a coin battery) and a more accessible on/off switch. Techno RV offered a $40 rebate when I send my original Levelmate Pro back to them. I paid by credit card, and they sent me a new Levelmate Max. I followed the enclosed instructions precisely, yet after many attempts, and much frustration, I could not get it to work. An email to Techno RV customer support yielded a "thanks for your patience" response, because "the Android app for the Levelmate Max is not yet ready to be released." As I learned the hard way, the Levelmate Pro app (which is presently the only one available from the Google Play Store) is not compatible with the Levelmate Max. I sure wish they had included that disclosure in their offer, and with a note in the Levelmate Max package! The enclosed instructions refer to the "Levelmate app," saying nothing about the (not yet available) "Levelmate Max" app. Those disclosures would have saved me the frustration of trying to enable a product that Techno RV knows will not yet work. So, Techno RV takes your money, and ships you a product you can't yet use, because the necessary app is not yet available. All they offer when you ask them what else to do is a "thanks for your patience" apology for wasting your time because they didn't advise that you must have the Levelmate Max app, which you can't get. If any Oliver owners with Levelmate Pros are tempted by this upgrade offer, I recommend you verify that the app you need is actually available for download before giving them your $$$$. Had Techno RV disclosed "up front" that the necessary app was not yet available, I would not have given them my money when I did.
