  1. I bought the Boondocking in Southern Utah guide from Frugal-RV-Travel. I had read excellent reviews about the book, and I have to agree that the book is excellent. They list a bunch of boondocking sites, with directions and GPS coordinates. The cost was $17. They produce six different boondocking guides, on New Mexico, Southern Utah, Southern Texas, Arizona, California Sierras and Coast, and California Desert and Eastern Sierra. The guide comes as a pdf file. I loaded it onto my computer, iPad and iPhone. I put it in the Kindle app on the iPhone and iPad, but the iBook app works also. If I am driving, my wife will be the researcher / navigator, and she likes paper, so I printed out a double-sided copy and put in a report binder. The first version of the book I got in 2017 was the 2013 edition, and it was 140 pages long. They revised the book in 2018, and they send me a copy of the new edition. It is amazing that they sent me the updated edition for free! The new version is 166 pages. The GPS coordinates are hot linked. If you click on the GPS coordinates it opens up in Google Maps, either on the computer or on the phone. Very cool! I highly recommend these guides. Using the Boondocking in Southern Utah guide, I found the best campsite I have ever had, in Valley of the Gods in Southern Utah. The campsite on BLM land was free, so I definitely consider the $17 for purchasing the book money well spent.

  3. I saw this video and thought about my Ollie (9'7") height. As with several responding owners, I too use a 10' ALL STOP and stand on my truck tailgate to visually verify what the obstruction height really is. I've seen several old bridges with a ten foot clearance signs. Yet the road to and from it has had several overlays...... but the sign condition obviously says it had not been changed in many decades. So knowing your actual flat land height is a good start. But knowing your ALL STOP and check height may be more useful. My motto is: 10' Clearance = STOP & CHECK Geronimo John

  4. Drove over to the trailer today to adjust my Andersen hitch to the new truck which sits over an inch taller than the 2016 Ram. With no adjustments it was 25.5” to the top of the ball. I was in the bottom two holes in the ball mount so I had to remove the ball assembly and flip the mount over to use the top two holes. That made the top of the ball sit at exactly 23.5”. When I lowered the trailer the truck went down about 1.5” without the Andersen. With the WDH it was just above 22.5” at the top of the ball. When I used a level on the trailer, it was right at level. That is with an empty truck. Once I load the bed with camping stuff I should be very slightly nose down. We’ll load up this weekend for a Monday departure to points west for Jan/Feb and should get a better idea if any adjustments are needed.

  5. That video is a hoot, I have seen it before but with no sound. I watched it with volume turned up for the first time..... the huge bangs and the comments of the watchers inside the office are great. If you don’t want to watch the entire thing, start at about 8:30. That shows a very cautious trucker approaching at a snails pace. He hits and stops. No worries. A minute later we see a box truck stopped at the side street. He waits, then turns left, AWAY from the bridge. Why is the film still rolling?... Then we hear “beep beep beep beep”. “No no!” I shout out loud. He backs into the intersection and reverses carefully back up the wrong lane of the side street. He waits. He considers..... What the hell, he turns right and guns it under the bridge... I laughed out loud, I wonder how he ever passed his CDL test. John Davies Spokane WA
