The rear hitch is only recommended to be used for weights of less than 100lbs and it's also important to note that the weight should be placed as close to the bumper as possible and not cantilevered outward.  Typically this hitch is used for mounting a bicycle rack ( and that's truly what its intended purpose is ) as is evident by the 1 1/4" acceptor.  I would not risk mounting a cargo tray back there others may disagree.

    @Tom and Doreen

My 2020 rear bumper is rated for 150 lbs according to the warning sticker Oliver placed on the bumper.
Are the 2023’s only rated for less than 100 lbs? I am interested to know if this has changed.

  2. Ollie in the Wild!
After a very successful service visit and Truma retrofit/install we left the Oliver Mothership and are now camped at Monte Sano SP near Huntsville, Ala. It’s a reeeeally nice SP and we highly recommend it! Nice large sites with full HP. Only 55 miles from the LGSP Oliver Rally. A nice place to chill until we head out to the Rally. Even a little Bluegrass music under the Pavilion this evening.
    Happy Camping!

I can see how that is a big design flaw. As usual, Oliver has found a field fix. Hopefully, Truma will respond with a better shroud design.

Let’s hope so. Oliver has addressed this with Truma. It may take a number of end user complaints to Truma get Truma to move forward.
    Time will tell.

Delivery day is now in the books, and even though my head felt like it was spinning, it went very well.

It started out at 4am when I finally decided laying in bed wide awake was useless. Got up after probably four hours sleep and loaded up some last items, fed the dogs and took them out and had a little breakfast with my wife before taking off at 5.

I was pretty good driving, seemed like the 6.5 hours flew by. Pulled in early and ran into Chase in the showroom. He said he could take care of the paper work in just a few minutes and then I would be free to go through orientation once everyone was back from lunch.

Ryan did a fantastic job explaining everything and answering my questions. The service guys still had to install the wifi receiver system and once that was done I backed the truck and hooked up to head out to a camp spot for the night.

I had a great visit with numerous owners that were in for service on their way to the rally next week. @Patriot was their as well with warm greetings and even snapped and initial picture of me backing Ollie-Haus into her first official camp site. The picture shows I was a little giddy by this time.

It's about 10:40pm now and I'm finally cleaned up and relaxing. Already have a few things on a punch list for service to address. It's been a great experience and even more so because of the fellow Oliver owners I've already connected with. And in just a few days we'll make even more new Oliver friends at the rally. See you all next week!

When we bought our fridge/freezer in 2016, there were very few choices, and all of them expensive. The "in" fridge was the ARB50 at $850 plus $150 shipping. We were visiting the Conqueror trailer importer in our home town of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and he was swapping out the National Luna 90 Twin fridge that came in the trailer for another combination fridge/freezer.

At the time, the NL 90T retailed for $2700, and we got one from him for $1000. That's a lot today, but a steal six years ago. National Luna is what is in UN vehicles, and what the Red Cross uses to transport organs in Africa and other remote areas. They have since designed their own more efficient version of the previously used Danfoss compressor, and reduced the price by about $1000. If you want the best available, check them out at the sole US importer, Equipt1.com Their custom service is second to none, and owner Paul May goes out of his way to accommodate your needs, often at his own expense.

Mine has been running in the back of my black Toyota 4Runner and now black Toyota Land Cruiser for 24 hours a day, March through Christmas since early 2016. We've not had a single regret.

    Steve,

We are really considering a National Luna twin and are hoping to see yours at the rally if you’re open to showing it to us.
Our TV is 12v ready and would just like to get a visual on the size. Would you be willing to let us take a look at your NL90?

Did you previously have an Easy Start capacitor? If so, did they remove it, or just bypass it, leaving it in place?

I wanted the ES left in in the Penguin. The buyer of my Penguin wanted it as part of the sale as he has a small genset. Oliver removes the ES along with the Penguin during the retro fit.

That is not the OEM Dometic digital thermostat you see in the photo. I made a suggestion in April to Oliver to consider using this Honeywell furnace only digital thermostat in the below link. It was approved by their electrical engineers and is now an option when having the Truma retrofit done. Otherwise you will get the Dometic mechanical thermostat. So no Oliver is not using the original dual control thermostat. I much prefer the look, fit, and finish of the digital Tstat below.
This ended up being particularly helpful to me as I presold our Dometic Penguin prior to the retrofit being completed. I needed the original thermostat to sell with the Penguin.

How long is the truma warranty? Some components are one year, many two year.

If it's two years, I'd def  spend $29 for filters. If its a year, I'd wash them. Yeah, I know.... frugal me.

@SeaDawgWe were advised by Jason Essary that the Truma factory warranty is 2 years. Oliver submits this warranty information the day the install is complete and the customer takes delivery.
As @MobileJoymentioned it’s highly recommended by Oliver and Truma that new replacement filters are installed every 12 months.

Also pointed out during our visit with service, Oliver and Truma do not recommend an easy start on the Truma. Installing one voids the 2 year warranty.

There are six screws that hold the Truma AC cover that don't have any rubber washer or sealant.  The screws sit in a small cup indentation about an inch across so any water on the roof will leak inside.  That's the first area leakage.  Seems crazy not to have some rubber washer under the screw head.  The MaxxAir screws weren't sealed either.  It's still in the shop waiting for Oliver to give guidance on how it should be remedied.  Frustrated that a new trailer first had the gas leak, then this water leak.  Hope to have it fixed before 2024.

    John,

We just had our Truma installed and the (6) screws that are counter sunk holding the Truma cowling onto the unit is a design flaw which Oliver has addressed with Truma. These counter sunk holes will collect water which could result in a leak.

    The fix-
Per Oliver service these counter sunk holes are now filled with a sealant by Oliver to preempt water intrusion. All new Olivers and retrofits get this sealant.
This sealant is not permanent and can be removed to access the fasteners. Unfortunately, I don’t recall the name of the sealant. I will try and ask Oliver Service staff the name of the sealant they are using tomorrow. We are still at Camp Oliver giving our newly installed Truma a two day shake down before departing.

Will this sealant require regular visual inspection and maintenance? My guess is like any other sealant yes.

@Patriot Have you had a chance to check the airflow from your Truma AC?  Does it flow equally on both port and starboard sides?

Just want to ensure it is "ops normal" - probably is but want to be sure since I will be stopping by Hohenwald before the rally.

    Thanks -

    Brian

    @Brian and Brandelyne

As promised, I did check the air flow and the air flow is equal on both sides.

A bit off topic...I was inspecting OTT's repair when we got back to spot 2 and ventured across this moth resting on the back of our trailer.  Beautiful!  Have not seen one of these before.  It could be OTT's mascot 🙂 Color coordinated even.

No doubt Honda has done a great job creating a brand that a lot of people trust and are willing to pay the extra $$... Can you trust a $900 Predator or do you need to spend $2,600 for peace of mind for the Honda 3200?

Based on years of trouble free experience with Honda generators, motorcycles, and mowers, I trust Honda products.

Thank you for posting up your issue with the condensate tubes. We just arrived at Camp Oliver for the Truma retrofit tomorrow, Tues and Wed. I will hopefully get a little time to talk with Jason in the morning making sure to preempt this issue from occurring.
We plan on giving the new Truma a really good shakedown next Wednesday afternoon and evening before leaving Camp Oliver Thursday morning. We’ll also be at the Rally for 8 days and if we have any issues we’ll just return to Oliver and get it addressed. Look forward to meeting you John. Go Air Force!

Yes, Oliver and Truma both have said Truma will void the warranty if ES is installed. The Truma warranty is only two years and the ES can easily be installed yourself ..... almost plug and play.  Hopefully the Truma AC will not give any trouble...I know the ES will not cause any.

I worked for Emerson Electric and Schneider Electric for 34 years. We routinely modified OEM devices to suit our design intent.  For my estimation, the ES/Truma installation is low risk.

Modifying my F150's software....now that caused me to sweat. Voiding that warranty would have been painful....Truma, not so much.

    Steve

    @SteveCr

Interesting. Where I came to a full stop in your post is where you stated “hopefully the Truma will not give any trouble”. As the end user I wonder why Truma does not recommend an ES? There must be a reason.

Moving forward, I am choosing to trust the engineers at Truma and Oliver Service recommendations. Given the out lay of cash to have the Truma retro fit done by Oliver, I choose to yield to Oliver Service and the Truma’s engineers caution flag  and not install the ES and completely void the Truma warranty. I am thinking in the next 2 years Truma may approve an ES, I am willing to be patient.

Did you install the ES on your Truma? Would like to hear your results.

Here is the ES to Truma wiring diagram for those interested. If taken off the old Dometic AC the ES will need to be relearned....very easy with online instructions.

Although I would like the ES or soft start, I was informed by Oliver Service that installing an easy start or soft start would void the Truma factory warranty and they won’t install it. We are having the Truma installed on May 8th. If I learn anything different I will post up.

That's how we feel, often, on upgrades. Covering all the holiday bases, as it can be so expensive.

Sorry I tagged onto a Christmas thread. My apologies.

No apologies necessary. Your right upgrades can be spendy! We look at our Ollie as our second home which does take a little bit of the sting out of higher ticket items. 👍🏻😊
