Progressive Surge Protector Operation
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Trainman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
We had a similar thing happen in our Leisure Travel Van equipped with the PI surge protector. It always happened when we were connected at home to a 20 amp receptacle. Error code would say "ground fault error", but the receptacle tested fine for ground. As per the Progressive Industries manual, we unplugged the 30 amp power cord from the van and reconnected; this always solved the issue. Not sure if the order in which you connect has any bearing on the situation. Perhaps it is just a matter of unplugging to reset. We never called PI for advice since the problem always resolved itself. The only other time the Progressive unit cut off power was at a public campground. The error code showed "low voltage" which occcurs when current drops below the preset threshold of 104v. We asked the CG host, and they had not received other complaints; perhaps no other RVs had low voltage protection? Or there was high power usage across all sites? We were offered an alternate site, but chose to simply unhook power since we were only staying the night. -
Have never had another camper ask to see our RVs without an invitation. Covid situation is a good excuse to not accept visitors.

Congratulations . . . . . . and welcome!

Never . . . . worrying about security takes the joy out of camping. Everything we take along can be replaced, though it would be an inconvenience. As far as personal security, I feel safer boondocking than I do in some improved camping facilities; we try to steer clear of high crime areas and I do not camp without my "body guard" of 40-something years ๐

Pro Breeze dehumidifier(s)
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Patriot's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Follow-up on yesterday's unscientific test of the Ivation desiccant dehumidfier: With approximately 3.5 hours of operation, the humidity in our garden shed was reduced from 65-45%; the reservoir collected 2 1/2 cups of water, slightly more than 1/8 of its capacity. -
Legacy Elite 2 buyer has questions about upgrades

One note about the awning options: I contacted Girard to inquire about the different fabrics in the standard vs pro options that Oliver offers. Since our Oliver will be residing in the PNW, I was concerned about the effect of damp weather on the Sunbrella fabric. They confirmed my belief that the vinyl fabric is more suited to our moist environment. We are willing to forego the wind sensor upgrade in favor of the vinyl awning that will be easier to keep mildew free. I was told by my sales rep that both awnings have LED lights; if not, these are an easy add-on if you desire this feature. -
Thanks for the info. . . . . rain??? . . . . . what's that?

Pro Breeze dehumidifier(s)
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Patriot's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Test underway measuring temp deg F/humidity % outside and in the potting shed. Started with dehumidifier on low setting, but changed to high as indicated. 12:30 : outside = 43/94 inside = 55/65 1:30 : outside = 48/93 inside = 55/60 2:00 : increased dehumidifier setting to high 3:00 : outside = 50/90 inside = 55/58 turned on space heater @ low setting 4:00 : outside = 47/91 inside = 61/51 5:00: outside = 43/92 inside = 62/48 For reference: interior house is 72/39 with wood heat and HVAC air circulation on Turning the unit off; will measure amount of water when it shuts off Of course the environment did not include two person respiration and there was no outside ventilation. Walls are insulated, but two windows are single pane. Considering this brief test, I think the unit should perform well enough to keep condensation in check. The addition of ventilation through the roof vent should compensate for having people on board. As for the operation of the dehumidifier, it has a great LED display and is easily adjusted for a set humidity or to run continually. Set at low, you can barely tell it's running; on high it is similar to white noise. The display can be dimmed for nighttime. The only thing it doesn't have that would be nice is a digital display of the water level; as it is you have to visually inspect. You do have the option of attaching a drain tube and I believe it will shut itself down if the water reservoir reaches capacity. -
These photos are killing me!!! It will be hard to keep me home once we have our Ollie . . . . hoping then to share some of our Boondock venues.

Yet Another Possible Bike Rack Mod?
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Jairon's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the info; I figured the bike frame would interfere. Our bed is 8' so the panels will be a bit wider, but probably not enough to make it work. My bike is a smaller frame with a dropped top tube, but the husband's frame is an XL with level top tube and much taller. We like to avoid removing bike parts. We could always open the top further since we will mostly use it closed to make cargo somewhat secure while we are away. Might have to reconsider the tonneau idea . . . . so many decisions . . . . -
I know the basic formula for conversion of AC watts to amps is wattage/voltage. However, I see several online conversion charts/tools that also have a "Power factor". What is this (resistance?) and is it important? Our simply assume a power factor of 1.0?

Yet Another Possible Bike Rack Mod?
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Jairon's topic in General Discussion
This might be a solution for us, if the dual hitch receiver plan doesn't work. We are hoping to install a Bakflip tonneau cover. Do you think this would work with one panel of the Bakflip flipped back? Is there a way to use theft deterrent cables/locks with bikes transported this way? -
Yamaha needs to quit making Ebikes and make more 2200i generators ๐ Nice looking bike, though; classy looking. I wonder if it can handle off-pavement? Price? Capacity of our 1up Super Duty rack is 225#
-
Tow capacity of our F350 SD long bed is 14,000# and tongue capacity 1,400# 1 up rack and bikes weigh 110-125# I don't understand why but ETrailer states: When mounting an accessory in this receiver, your hitch's tongue weight capacity will be reduced by 50 percent. When using both the ball mount and the receiver the tongue weight capacity is not affected. I don't understand why the reduction in tongue capacity with an accessory, but not when using both the ball mount and the receiver, unless they are referring to the pickup hitch receiver. Either way it is within the limits. If anyone knows where to find the picture of the dual hitch setup, please share.

Similar to the 1up . . . however, does it tilt down, while loaded, to access cargo area? I like the way the rack locks to the receiver. I would not rely on the built-in cable locks, though. Would still use Kryptonite (or such) U-lock and cable - still not theft proof, but a more substantial deterrents. Is the Curt rack approved for use on the back of an RV? We are hoping to use our 1up rack with this dual hitch. Waiting to get our Oliver so we can determine if there is clearance enough for the rack between the pickup and the Oliver tongue jack. Darn, it's on sale now, 1/2 price. Tempted to get it now and return if it doesn't work out. Edit: I am ordering now. They have a 60 day, no questions asked, return policy for unused items. However, shipping cost may cancel out refund; might come in handy for other applications. December 19: Have our Oliver home now and tried the dual hitch with our 1up rack. Perfect fit; we can even open the pickup tail gate with the rack in the loaded position.

Question for those with experience: While dining, does it work to use either the pantry or microwave counters as "side boards" for items that might otherwise occupy the dining table?

We have reservations at David Crockett State Park for two nights following delivery - December 7 & 8. Space #60; come by and say "Hi" if you're around.

This reminds me of camping at City of Rocks, ID. Love your night shots. I just can't seem to get those . . . .

Lithium Pro Battery Compartment Design
Ray and Susan Huff replied to Hokieman's topic in General Discussion
We ordered the Lithium package. Last week we received a message from Oliver that they have experienced overheating problems with the internal heating system in the LifeBlue batteries. Because of this, they are installing the batteries with the internal heating disabled and are adding a heat mat for the batteries. The heat mat will have to be turned on manually, as needed, based on the internal temperature of the batteries. With this in mind, I am going to ask Oliver, if it would be prudent to insulate the battery compartment. Our Oliver is already in assembly.
