  1. Bugeyedriver also towed and Oliver Elite I with a mid-sized pickup for many thousands of miles. While not an Elite II I would guess that he has some stories to tell - about his towing experience that is.😁 Bill

  4. I have never towed my Oliver Elite II with a "mid-sized" pickup. However, I did tow previous RV's with a Tacoma. It was OK in that it never let me down. It did make it up western mountains and had enough brakes to handle going down those same grades. However, I never really liked the sound of the engine as it worked really hard on many of the steeper grades. AND - what I was towing weighed just shy of 4,000 pounds versus the Oliver's 6,000 to 6,500 pounds. I'm certain that I would have switched (for safety and comfort reasons) to a larger Tow Vehicle but I had already do that by the time my Oliver came along. My reason for switching earlier was gas! One time when traveling west on Interstate 70 I was headed into a 40 mph head wind at a vehicle speed of 60mph. My gas mileage was 4 miles to the gallon! With the small gas tank that is in the Tacoma I was stopping about every hour and a half for gas and was constantly worried that there would not be a station when I needed one. I actually really liked my Tacoma but I really do not believe that it makes for a very good tow vehicle for the Elite II in all but the very narrowest of circumstances. Bill

  7. IL-T I've used a K&N for the engine air intake for years now and have been very happy with it. Bill
  8. FWIW - I log in and out at each visit - its no big deal. But, I'm not using Apple products and I don't get emails as you are getting them. Bill
  9. I thought so too until one winter's day I deplaned at the local airport and the air temp was -17 degrees! That's the coldest I've ever experienced. Welcome to the sandbox and it will not be long now until you too have real sand between your toes. Bill
  10. JRK - The Andersen has basically two functions: 1. weight distribution - i.e. moving the weight towards the front of the tow vehicle versus having it on the rear axel(of the tow vehicle), and, 2. anti-sway. The anti-sway part is created from the ball of the hitch being "connected" (actually one solid piece) all the way from the top of the ball to the other end that sticks out of the bottom of the hitch assembly - where you attach your "whale tail". This solid piece is basically cone shaped and has a plastic type material between it and the housing in which it sits. When you place the tongue of the Oliver down on the ball, the weight causes that solid piece to "wedge itself" into the plastic material. As you travel down the highway and the Oliver and tow vehicle move back and forth the increased friction will heat up that plastic material causing it to expand. The more back and forth movement - the more expansion. This cycle will become greater and greater in the event any "sway" occurs to the point where this back and forth movement is fairly restricted, thus, eliminating the sway. However, since Olivers do not sway, this function is really not used when towing your Oliver under "normal" circumstances. Bill
  11. For what its worth - the two awning "failures" that I have seen resulted from the wind taking the awning and bending it up and over the roof of the Oliver. In both cases the support brackets did not seem to have moved but the metal and/or plastic pieces of the awning were toast. Bill
  12. Early days? Heck! I STILL listen to JT and Ms. Krauss and even Carol King from time to time. Bill

  14. How about a return to a classic - at least for a certain age group. This version from Hell Freezes Over is even better than the original in my opinion:

  21. It looks like a real beast - but - what is that white stuff on the edges of the driveway? My 2017 Ford F-150 came with the "magic knob". As per the instructions, I placed the little sticker Ford gave me in the appropriate spot, with all the measuring that it entailed. Then with great anticipation I used it - once. Just about like RB above - I too like to use mirrors - old habits die hard - and even the backup cameras do not give me the warm fuzzies. Having said this - there are those times when the "old" brain just doesn't seem to work and this "new" tech comes in real handy. Bill
