Plastic disk in tank dump discharge
topgun2 replied to jhull61's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Either way - the tank has got to empty faster now And it will also store more too!😆 -
I found it interesting that the guys from CGI brought this subject up. Simply put - they believe that there is no way that the warranty can work in that it will either eventually force that company out of business due to cost of claims or because the "job" will simply not hold up. They asked me if I knew any if information about it - I don't. They also wondered if this price included the polishing and prep work and a coating made for fiberglass rather than for regular clearcoat - I didn't know that either. Having said this - I was aware of this Facebook post prior to writing the check to CGI. In a rough calculation - not including the cost of the materials used in the process - what I paid calculates to just under $45 per hour of work for each of the 4 guys and this doesn't include something for the company -- i.e. costs for advertising, accounting, washing Twist at the Rally, etc. Bottom line - I'd need to know a lot more about what I'd get for the $1900.00 before I'd make the trip to AZ. And, I'm satisfied with the job that CGI did. Bill

No question about that! Meeting the 4 guys that are the crew for CGI is a real treat - young (relative to me anyway), energetic, personable, and not afraid of real work! However, if you get a chance, it is also a treat to meet the parents of Gavin - such nice people. When you do you will realize just why he has the qualities mentioned above. Not only does Twist look better than it did the day I took delivery, but at least some of my faith in the future of our country has been restored by these individuals. Bill

See the pic post by RideandFly above - given that the grease comes out via the hole in the bolt - it is very likely that even though your grease is only oozing out of the first joint, it is still doing its job. However, if it was me - I'd first make sure that the second joint was VERY clean and that there was no evidence of that bolt or area being bent or out of alignment. And, I'd put grease in there again. God luck! Bill

You might want to try Wanderinglabs.com. Their "basic" program doesn't cost anything. Bill -
A Thread for OTT Owners of "New-to-Them" Ollivers...
topgun2 replied to MAX Burner's topic in General Discussion
I just got #117 ceramic coated by the great guys at CGI detailing - as with a number of the "older" hulls my Twist now looks even better than it did the day it was hatched! Just why is it that the Oliver looks new - but - the guy looking back at me in the mirror doesn't? Bill p.s. maybe I should have been the one that got "detailed"? -
Now - Let the real fun begin. Congrates and I'll see you at the Rally. Bill

I'd bet that your front jack is a replacement for the original jack that was in this location. When the front storage basket was introduced it was necessary to rotate the front jack in order to make room for the basket while at the same time allow for the top of the "dog house" to be removed. In turn - this caused the light on the front of the jack to now be shining to the side versus the front. One way to tell if any Oliver is of the "older variety" is to look for this turned front jack. You need some serious rodent control!😁

"CQ, CQ, CQ..." Any HAM Radio Operators out there in Ollie-World?
topgun2 replied to MAX Burner's topic in General Discussion
Inquiring minds just want to know - where is the biggest ham of them all - Bosker? -
I can't answer for GreyGhost but when I replaced my tires about 1.5 months ago I only replaced the four on the road. I had never rotated the spare into the mix. Having said this - I will no longer use the spare for anything other than a very short term spare only on the road long enough to get me to a place where I can repair or replace the damaged tire. Certainly I would not rotate it into the mix with my four new tires. Bill

Rear Jacks Rocker Switches Mounted on Dog House
topgun2 replied to MAX Burner's topic in General Discussion
Given the look of your running gear that was on the trailer when you bought it - I'd guess that those switches were also neglected. Other than buying new switches you might try a bit of contact cleaner like THIS. Or - even a bit of WD-40. Bill -
Size of the bearing nut for Dexter Axle?

Looking good! Sure is a big improvement from the first pic you posted of those drums and running gear. Nice job. Bill -
Use that TPMS on your trip to the Rally. Keep a very close eye on the tire temps and pressure. If you have anything approaching or over a 10 psi increase in tire pressure it could mean that your tires are underinflated. Remember - it is high tire temp that kills most tires and generally degrades a tire from the inside to the outside. Obviously, you must also keep in mind other conditions such as the road surface (a concrete surface will generally be cooler than a black top surface), the "crown" of the road (the tires on the lower side of the crown will generally run a bit warmer than the tires on the high side), the sun ( the tires on the side of the camper that are in the sun will run hotter than those in the shade), etc. Also keep in mind that the tire temps you should be most concerned with are the "cold" tire temps. That is your base line. Tire manufacturers allow for the natural increase in tire pressure in the construction of the tire. Even when a tire that has a maximum pressure rating of 80psi (cold) goes over that pressure during "normal" operation it is (most likely) within design specifications. Bill p.s. Have a safe trip over to the Rally! Can't wait to say hello!

Bulb Seal (for under the awning) has been Ordered
topgun2 replied to Wayfinder's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Its hard to tell from the pic above and/or the Google pics but particularly in the rain the awning should be slanted such that the rain can more easily run off and not "puddle" on the awning itself. Usually the low side of the slant would be at the end closest to the rear of the camper. Bill -
Could be one - or the other - or both. Easy way to check the cable is to take a look at the end of the cable nearest the valve. Is the cable securely attached where it should be? If there is any sign of looseness, just pull the cable tight and tighten the screw holding the cable to the valve. I assume that you have done a complete and through "flush" of the tank you are having trouble with? If not, do this before you add the valve lube. Bill

By the sounds of it you probably do not want to wait this long - but - I will be on the East side of Kansas City and/or overnight in St. Joe on July 6th. And, I'd be more than happy to show you Twist (an LEII). Bill

Bulb Seal (for under the awning) has been Ordered

Second dibs if you decide to not use it. Bill -
A harder tire will have less sidewall flex and, therefore, run cooler than a tire that has less air pressure and thus more sidewall flex. Heat in a tire is one of the main causes of failure. Additionally, higher tire pressures are required for increased load on the tires. So, if you want to carry the maximum load that a tire was designed for then you must also inflate that tire to its maximum tire pressure as recommended for its manufacturer. Bill

Bulb Seal (for under the awning) has been Ordered
topgun2 replied to Wayfinder's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
There have been a number of owners that have taken that seal off and left it off primarily due to having difficulty in cleaning the area on the roof behind it. Obviously, if you remove and then don't replace it, there might be a fair amount of water that will run down the side of the trailer when it rains. This just might obviate the use of the awning during a shower. For what its worth - I've still got the original seal up there, have not had difficulty keeping the roof behind it clean and have enjoyed a few beverages while sitting under my awning during a light rain. I thought that THIS was a secret. Just wait around for THAT knock on the door at zero dark thirty! It will normally be General ScubaRX doing the inspection - don't even think about giving him the ol' "side eye". And, yes, it is white glove! 😜 -
I assume that you have contacted Oliver Service?
