If they don't like them, it's because they don't know how they work. Some are under the impression that they "steal" power but what they really do is convert amperage into higher voltage in low voltage situations. If it's mounted inside there's no way they could know that you're using one anyway.

Hull 45 has *no* ductwork, it just has a single grill attached to the heater itself. All the early Oliver's I've seen so far have been built this way.

We have the screen on Hull 45 too but it's almost unusable due to the window latch and latch hardware being in the way when trying to raise or lower it.

Not a negative, as long as it stays dry... Our Ollie had wood in the basement that had gotten wet over the years that needed replacement. Thankfully not structural and it was an easy fix using PVC board.

My 2010 Hull 45 did not come with any type of surge protection either. Used one of those pedestal types for a while but recently installed a hardwired Hughes Autoformer with surge protection. So far it seems to be working as advertised and I like the fact it can be monitored with bluetooth and that it's DIY to replace the surge protection module should it fail. Hughes Autoformer

I'm more concerned with my tanks gunking up which also poses a risk for contamination building up in the tank. Even after using the built in back flushing it takes 3 fill/drains for the black tank to run clear. When I back flush I do the grey tank first, then the black, and I then mix a five gallon bucket of water with 1 1/2 cups of beach and dump some down each drain. That sits in the grey tank for a while and is dumped last. I know people who don't bother with bleach step and have had no issues. YMMV.

I use one of these to backflush the tanks and then use the Pine-Sol and Calgon solution mentioned in the article after each use. No issues so far and never have any funky odors.

Looks like that RecPro hatch would work well but I'm trying to keep most things as original as I can.

I was going to go with a wood stopper myself until I realized a PVC cap would be a perfect fit.

I don't know how many older Ollie's there are out there with the retractable power cord, but if you have one, this simple mod should help prevent any small rodents from gaining entry through the opening while the cord is in use. There is a mesh installed from the factory that somewhat fills the space around the cable, but as you can see in the pics it's really not a tight enough fit to prevent mice from squeezing by and it seems highly "chewable" too. It's just a 3" PVC cap with a slot cut with a Dremel that fits tight against the cable without really putting any pressure against it.The O ring on the Ollie side fits snug to the inside of the PVC cap to hold it firmly, though I'll probably add a set screw or two to secure it further. It sure beats the sock filled with steel wool that I've been using up until now...

That would be awesome if they would fit! Let me know what measurements you need and I'll get them to you ASAP.

I bet there's a good chance that they're still "A" batteries taken from stock and their just testing the market to see how many sell at the reduced price. I worked for a company one time long ago that pulled a stunt like that.

My 2010 has the same size vent, but I don't have the depth available near the top of the opening to be able to fit the 5.5 fans.

I tried installing 5.5 fans on mine too but it was impossible to make them fit. Maybe differing clearances based on year of hull and fridge model?

We got lucky here in South Tampa. Some flooding but it could have been much, much worse. Had at least 6 vehicles suck water into their engines trying to drive down my street, but luckily my house and driveway are several feet above the roadway and my truck and Ollie stayed high and dry. Why they kept coming when they could plainly see other cars were already stuck I'll never know... 2 hours later it was bone dry.

Nice work, and I'm sure you'll see a performance bump with the addition of fans.. I also added a couple of them recently, and with the arrival of Idalia I finally got to see how the fridge performed with them of the course of several days. Not too bad for a 13 year old fridge considering it's been running in 90+ deg temps during the day. IMO, these fans should be standard equipment on absorption fridges.

Thanks! We're loading up the Ollie right now just in case we need to make a quick getaway! We live a stones throw from Tampa Bay so the odds of that hsppening are fairly high..

I use 3M light polish with wax to remove the black streaks. Doesn't do as good a job protecting as their straight wax does but protects good enough to get me to the next whole Ollie waxing. I will try the scrubbing bubbles on the window weather stripping, though.. The only way I've been able to remove mold from them so far is to soak overnight in a bleach/water solution.

Given Oliver's history of quality and service I think it's pretty ridiculous to make those comparisons even before any details are known. They've earned that much.
