I did find the "Turbro" brand on the website, but as you can see in the pic the only remote they show is much different than the one I have (mine on the right). Sent them all the info they requested and just waiting for them to get back to me.
-
Ah, maybe I read it wrong and Turbro isn't in the database at all? Waiting to hear back, but will bring up the fact that the Pioneer Inverter units look to be identical and see if they can recommend which remote model to use for my Turbro. There's a bunch of Pioneer models in there...
-
Might want to wait on that. Installed my Breez Max today and couldn't get it to work correctly using the auto detect for the remote, nor by trying to manually enter the Turbro info. It's shows the Turbro brand in the manual setup, but only one model remote and it isn't the one I have. Got it to to turn the Turbro on but it would turn the built in LED's on and off when it was trying to change the temp. Going to contact support in the am and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm no Electromechanical engineer, but there has to be a better way to protect a battery from thermal runaway. How are others doing it? It also seems as though their design doesn't work as intended (at least for the battery in the video).

Thanks, I did a little reading and fully understand how the transfer switches on Ollies work now. My only expedience with a transfer switch was on a boat that my father owned. It had a transfer switch that switched between onboard invertor power and shore power and I'm almost certain that setup needed battery power for it to work correctly.

I love your math and will be using it as my sales pitch for new Nev-R-Lube axles to my wife. She'll then return the favor by letting me know what she'll be spending that saved money on!

I find it works fairly well if you keep the phone close to the internal antenna mounted in the cabin. Usually adds 2, sometimes 3 bars for us. .
-
Oh, I have no doubt it will work with my Turbro, I just don't think it will have the ability to override functions programed into the control board of the unit itself.
-
In a perfect world, it would work just as you describe. With the Turbro/Pioneer inverter units, at least, this doesn't seem to be the case. Yes, the compressor does ramp up and down as needed but the internal supply fan works no differently than standard compressor units do. The fan has low/med/hi settings and is not a variable speed ECM motor like residential mini-splits have. Probably a money saving move and feature they thought people wouldn't miss in an RV. I sure miss it... especially in heat mode where the fan locks on high speed and doesn't allow any adjustment. Looking forward to testing with a Cielo thermostat soon to see if it can override this feature but my hopes are not high...

They also replaced the plywood subfloor with a composite, which is a big plus.

#30A RV Receptacles Are Exempt From Garage GFCI Requirements
CRM replied to Rivernerd's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Section 551.71(F) of the NEC is specific to RV parks only so not applicable to your situation. And as @Snackchaser stated, wiring to only one side of a double breaker is fine per the NEC. Might not be needed though if your local AHJ hasn't adopted the new code yet. -

I thought I read something a while back that the new code requires GFCI protection in a residential setting but RV parks were exempt. Don't have a new code book but will see what I can find. Edit: looks like the updated NEC 2023 code 210.8(A) does include any 125 through 250 volt outlets installed in a garage or accessory building be GFCI protected. The code covering RV parks was not updated so only pedestal outlets 20 amp and under are still required to be GFCI protected. Contact your local construction services dept to see if they've even adopted the new code or not, and if they have, I would just install a 30 amp single pole GFCI breaker for that outlet. -
Right now my built-in sensor is reading about 5 degrees off in cooling and 10+ in heating. Hopefully the Cielo will be able to work around this for me.
-
This brings me to another question on the Cielo. How does it control setpoints... does it override the thermistor reading, or does it just keep adjusting the AC unit temp setting to match what the Cielo is reading if the temps between the two don't align?
-
Ah.. Then should work with just about all of them with a remote. Thanks!
-
I have high confidence that the Ceilo will work to control these units, the big question is will it override the built-in fan control that keeps the fan running when the compressor shuts down?

Greenland Turbro 13.5k Inverter AC / Heatpump install.
CRM replied to CRM's topic in Ollie Modifications
I could be wrong, but I think most of the noise is due to the small area inside the plenum and lack of any decent sound deadening insulation inside it. Definitely not coming from the outside portion of the unit which is whisper quiet. I do like your idea of letting some airflow bleed off around the top with spacers and may try that first before increasing the plenum size. In the end, it's not horribly loud but I know it could be better... -
Have they actually ever performed this mod at RecPro for anyone before? Still wondering if the Cielo thermostat could shut down the fan with the compressor on this unit like it does on the Atmos. They'd probably sell a lot more of the Houghton's if you could skip the mods and just add a thermostat to it.
-
No, the Turbro unit is identical to the Pioneer. And while much quieter than the Dometic, it's not as quiet as the Atmos and some others. On the plus side, it runs on about half the watts or less than standard compressor models and it's a heat pump too.

Got a chance to test the heat pump function last night and was pretty impressed with it's performance. Operating in the high 20's / low 30's it was able to keep the inside heated to 70 degrees. Built-in temp sensor reading was off even further than in cooling mode so thinking I might have it installed in the incorrect location to read temps right. That shouldn't matter soon since I'll be installing the Cielo Max thermostat which I hope will override the temp sensor. -
What were your issues, and how did you resolve them?

Recall on the 3.5 V6 twin turbo has been expanded to another 127k vehicles. If you own one, it's probably a good idea to go to Toyota's recall page to see if yours is affected. 127,000 Toyota, Lexus Vehicles Recalled for Engine Debris Toyota Recall lookup
