Water quick connects

Greetings!

Has anyone ever tried using "quick connects" on your city and fresh water inlets?  It seems it would make things a bit easier if you are moving campsites regularly.  I think it would be straight forward on the city water inlet but there might be a problem on the fresh water inlet.  I have noticed that after filling the fresh water there seems to be water that flows out after I disconnect the hose.  Is that water that from the fill tube into the holding tank.  Would that cause any siphoning effect of the fresh water if the rubber plug was not re-inserted?

I use stainless steel quick connections from McKillans on my power washer.  They make an amazing product.  I was wondering if their garden hose quick connects might work on the Oliver water inlets.

Yes, we use quick connects on our fresh and city water connections.  There are a bunch on Amazon, we’ve had ours for years.  

As far as water draining after you disconnect your hose, the backflow valve is at the back of the basement, a few feet from the connection, so the water that has not passed through the valve is probably what you are seeing drain.  I have that too.  Mike

We use quick connects on our freshwater fill without issues. We seldom connect directly to city water.

There are two good quality quick connects that we've used. One is the design from McKillans (typically stainless steel) and the other more common one was from Camco (typically brass).  We haven't used the Eley brand mentioned above. None of these have backflow check valves, so there's some leakage upon disconnect. The Camco and McKillans types are similar but not compatible with one another. We used the Camco connectors until we added a Blue Technologies water softener and hose reels. Blue Tech has McKillans style connectors and a mix of NPT 1/2 inch and garden hose threaded connections. The Blue Tech softener and reels, along with a Clearsource water filter system, are mounted in our TV and are used to fill our fresh tank.

We use quick connects.  I also use a Y adaptor with individual gate valves at the park spigot to depressurize the line before disconnecting.  Seems obvious but if you ever forget things get exciting quickly, especially if you use one of the expandable hoses.

I have 2 of the Eley hose reels with every thing has the Eley quick connects for the house.  I have the male quick connect that I take off and on the 2 stage water filter for filling the fresh water at home.  Never thought of fitting the Oliver and changing every thing to quick connects. so all I need is a pigtail to use at the camp site.   The Eley products are pricey, but quality is top notch.   I have almost 2 acres to water by hand in the summer, and have tried other reels, the Eley has out lasted the others,  The hoses also have lasted longer than the big box stores.

I  dislike having to reach down under the edge of the trailer to hook the water up,  especially when it is raining and the ground is filthy,  and I have to work to get a nice tight connection.  I think I will put a parts list together to upgrade  filter/pressure regulator/hoses to Eley.

i like the looks of the McKillans better than the Eleys but since I'm already intrenched with Eley at home, I will stay with Eley.

I have a small piece of plexiglass that I keep in the cellar to use to kneel down on when connecting my houses.

A couple of members (like Patriot) have used a small foam kneeling pad like THIS.

Your knees will thank you! My foam kneeling pad lives in the Oliver’s basement. 👍🏻

On your knees to connect a hose! 🤣 Sorry, not on my knees.

I'm only getting on my knees for necessary repairs under truck or trailer. These make it easier and thanks to @Patriot the Eley connections can be put on and taken off one-handed (off pressure released).

I can still bend over and screw the quick connect on. No kneeling🤣. I must say, it can be a pain. However, I prefer to do as I do rather than having something sticking out there that is a target of road debris. To risky for me.

I was bending over too, never on knees, but now with these shorty extensions I do not have to crane my neck. Not truly risky. Check out the picture for perspective. The trailers tires are much further out and so is the rear bumper. They are also flexible so if something was to hit them they would just fold back. If something was to het them it would also hit the rear bumper which would be a big owie! 

I've loved them ever since adding them. Lead-free brass, good for drinking water (not that we drink water from the Oliver).

Then I got these simple 1" chair leg caps for the Eley male ends which are inexpensive and fit nicely snug.
