GraniteStaters Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Mine is sitting in the dining room while I try to work up the mental energy to tackle it. I am getting confused just reading this thread! Do one side at a time, take pics as you remove the broken string so that you can remember the exact routing. Unfortunately, I never found a way to "test" my progress as I went. That meant that I never really knew if I was doing it correctly until I got it all back together and tried putting the shade up and down. Perhaps one additional hint - take another of your shades into the work area with you to use as a reference. I'm not saying that you should take it apart, but, having one that you know works properly as a reference provided me with at least some assurance that I was on the correct track. tallmandan Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) One of my window shades developed a problem. The outer nylon covering of one of the cords has separated from the inner core and is bunching up between the pleats, preventing the shade from collapsing/folding completely (see photo). I can only collapse the night shade partially now, leaving a quarter to a third of the shade unfolded. This thread has been very helpful to understand what I need to attempt and how. This does seem difficult and potentially frustrating to tackle... Thank you to those who have shared info and tips! ? Question to those that have replaced broken cords: Can I dissasemble the shade frame and replace just one of the four cords and leave the others in place? Do I have to release tension on all four cords and take everything apart and start over? jdmmtx Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I just noticed last time we were out that the string running vertically through the far right side of one of our shades looked as if it had detached from inside the plastic frame (there was a frayed end sticking out of one of the "thread" holes in the fabric just below the plastic frame on the upper right.) I assumed it had come untied. Could that be the case or did it likely break? Am I going to have to rethread the whole thing? Joe and Mindy ▪️ 2019 Legacy Elite II ▪️ Hull 457

I'd bet that the string broke because there is simply no "extra" string in the "loop" until you get to the very middle of the top and bottom of the frame. And, even then this "extra" string is tied off. I'm afraid that you are going to have to rethread the whole thing. But, if one broke then I'd guess that the other side is not far behind. Besides, since you have to basically take the frame apart to do one side, you might as well go ahead and do the other side while you are there. Basically what I'm saying is the very same thing that rideandfly said above. John Dorrer Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) We have both street side shades have strings break. The shades still work, though at a slight angle. I reached out to Oliver and plan on having both frames and shades replaced later this year or 2/27. Oliver said replacement would be no problem. We have ZERO desire to re-string them ourselves. Looking for motivation to try this DIY project 🙂 Dan, I think Mike Sharpe told me $750 to $800 per window shade. 😳 Mike said they have to be ordered through Oliver and the company will make the shade and ship it to Oliver and then Oliver Service ships them to you. This quote was last October when we stopped by Oliver Service. As @topgun2 said the price will motivate me when the time comes to DYI shade repair. 2020 OLEII - Hull #634 aka- “XPLOR” TV 2021 F350 6.7 liter Diesel Lariat Ultimate Tremor aka - “Beast of Burden” Truma Aventa 13.5 AC, Alcan 5 leaf pack, Alcan HD shackles & HD wet bolts, 5200lb never lube axles.XPEL 10 mil PPF front both front corners, 30 lb LP tanks, Sea Biscuit Front Cargo Storage box. ⚡️⚡️11/2025- Lithium upgrade to XPLOR - (2) Epoch 300ah Lithium batteries, Victron 3000W MultiPlus-II, Victron GX Touch 70, Victron Cerbo GX, Victron Smart Solar MPPT, Victron Smart Shunt, Victron Orion XS 1400 DC-DC charger, RV Soft Start.
