Taking delivery of my Legacy II on Thursday and hoping to camp one night near the factory for orientation.

I’ll contact Oliver tomorrow to make sure this is still possible.

Looks like it will freeze Thursday night so I have a heated drinking water hose as well as an extension cord to reach the external 110 outlet on the curb side of the trailer.

I plan to winterize before hauling back to Virginia and have watched to YouTube video on what to do.

That leads to the following questions. I have the right type antifreeze and the hand pump. Does the trailer come with a 3’ piece of Hose or will I need one? If so I’ll buy a cheap Hose and sacrifice it.

Is the 1 1/16” socket to drain the water heater provided?

Anything else you veterans suggest I need?

Socket is not provided, but they should have one you can borrow. You will need a short piece of hose.

Hi, Welcome,

Question? What is your purpose for the extension cord for the curb side outlet? To power the trailer you use the 25' power cord that comes with the unit. What I would pick up is both a  30-15, 15-30 adapter. This would allow you to plug into a conventional outlet or to use your extension cord to extend your reach (also you might not have a 30 amp plug at home). Harbor Freight (even Wally W) has them. I also carry a 30 amp extension cord but I just happened to have one. Older campgrounds seem to have the pedestals in some out of the way places. Not sure what end of a heated hose plugs into an outlet, at the pedestal end or the trailer end, or the amperage they require. Our unit did not come with the socket for the anode. I also find it easier to also have a 6" extension for the socket. We had a breaker bar come with the unit for the lugs nut that would work, but we carry a set of sockets and a ratchet. I don't know why and have never used, yet. The short hose was not included. But why not get a good hose to sacrifice? And then buy a good brass hose repair end to put the hose back to better than new. And then you have the extra length you might need to reach that out of the way pedestal.  Are you hauling home in one day? Even winterized you can still use the furnace and refrigerator. Also, with extra RV antifreeze to flush with, you could use the toilet. Good Luck and safe travels. See you around a campfire sometime...

If you only have one night, then have them winterize it with you and be done with no worries. But... if you have more time, plan to spend a few days in the area at Fall Hollow campground and this will give you the time needed to get acquainted with your new trailer and also time to get anything that needs to be fixed, taken care of. We were there for 5 days and they were in touch with us all the way thru, making sure that we understood everything. They will drive you over to the campground and hook everything up with you for your stay. Take the time needed and read the manual! Also read some posts in the Delivery Day Photos section to see how it went for others, if you read ours, there's a lot of info packed in from before a lot of big changes were made this year to the newer trailers like yours.

Given where you live - unless you have plans to do something other than tow your new Oliver directly home, I would simply ask that the delivery be made with your Oliver already winterized.  Of course you will not be able to test the water pump, water heater, outside and inside showers and internal plumbing and you would have to have a jug (one gallon plastic milk jugs work great for this) of water to pour into the toilet to flush the toilet.  Or, ask that they winterize it for you before you leave Hohenwald the next day  - this is what I'd do.

Most of all - have FUN - this is exciting and how about some photos!

If it were me, I'd have them deliver the trailer ready to use so that you can make sure everything works.  The last thing you want is to be getting ready for your first trip in the spring and discover that your water heater leaks or something.  Getting Oliver to walk you through the winterization process would be helpful as well.

Tahiles, Welcome from the Burgs of VA. and congrats on your new Oliver. Where in VA do you live? We just moved here in July and there a couple of other Ollie owners here in Va, so we need to get together sometime in the near future. If you are coming up I81, give us a holler as long as it's before next Wed. On Wed we are leaving for about 3 weeks in Florida, our old bodies are in need of some warm weather.

On your questions on what to bring, start by making a master check list with a block to check off that item when it's loaded in the trailer. It will change every trip as your figure out what to take and what to leave at home. Of course there will still be times when you get a mile from home and have to turn around because you forgot something. I hate when that happens, and it's NEVER something I forgot.  : )

I’ll chip in here. I hated Fall Hollow, it is simply gross that they have holes in the ground to hook up your fresh water, near the sewer pipes. Fresh water taps should always be elevated on risers well away from the dump pipes so that spilled sewage cannot possibe seep into them. I honestly don’t understand how such a gross code violation could be permitted to exist. From their appearance they have been like this for a very long time.

There are a number of wonderful State Parks in the area. Henry Horton east of Columbia is very nice. I definitely recommend that you have your trailer delivered in 100% functional condition. You can test the systems locally over a few days to make sure they all work, and you can get stuff fixed before heading home. They or you can winterize it if you feel it to be necessary.

Several comments here advise staying in the area for several days to learn how everything works and to make sure everything is working properly. Great advice!

I would advise heading out for a couple of hundred mile trip, then being prepared to return to factory if necessary. OTT is a great trailer but sometimes teething pains pop up and it is best to be in close proximity to the factory so they can address the issues or questions. Also, there will be the inevitable question: "how does this work?"  You can go over those with the factory folks directly if you can easily return to Hohenwald.

Lots of great things to do and see in the area, especially Nashville and the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Hap is absolutely right!  If at all possible, spend 4-7 days camping within 200 miles or so of the factory after picking up you Oliver.  Camp at 2-3 campsites so you put some towing miles in and go through the procedures for setting up and breaking down camp multiple times.  Even if you don't find mechanical items that require your return to the factory before you tow your Olliver home, you will discover additional questions that the people at the factory can better explain in person!

I will chime in with saying that the advice to travel for a while close to the Oliver factory is sound advice indeed. I will also second John's negative opinion of Fall Hallow. In addition to the holes in the ground to hook up fresh water, the space to which we were assigned was graced with a mud puddle. The surrounding area, however, is beautiful.

Let’s turn it around a little: what RV park would you all recommend for a first night stay?

If you are comfortable with boondocking, I'd stay at meriweather Lewis cg. Free. Beautiful. Hardly ever any neighbors .

If you want hookups, close to hohenwald, you have fall hollow, and 1000 trails. Fill your tank at the factory. Stay at fall hollow and work from the tank.  Great breakfast. Neal is an awesome cook

<li style="text-align: left;">Or, stay at 1000 trails or fall hollow one night, and go  camping. I don't love RV parks

Lots of state parks in reasonable distance.  Dave Crocket, Henry Horton, cedars of Lebanon, etc

We stayed at the Natchez Trace RV park on the recommendation from Ritchie (one of the gentlemen who did our orientation) and really enjoyed it. We parked by the lake. Full hook ups. We camped for 2 days in October.

For one night Fall Hollow is tolerable and (as Sherri says) it is reported that the food is good if they are serving while you are there.  It is also a bit closer to town in the event you wish to not prepare meals in your new camper.  1000 Trails/Natchez Trace RV Park is only a little bit further away.  It is much larger and if you are by the lake it is more scenic.  Both are very close to the Natchez Trace Parkway.  Unfortunately, both of these places can be a bit muddy in the event of rain.

Remember, it is only for a night or two while you check out all of your systems for proper function - if anything is wrong or if you have questions, both places are close enough to the factory to allow for easy fixes.  Also, that first night you will be fairly busy trying to get organized, exploring your new Oliver, trying to figure out how every thing works, and getting some rest from what was probably a fairly long day.

Tahiles ,

Congratulations!

I am curious to hear about your delivery and cold weather camping in the Hohenwald area (where you stay) and how it goes. We are scheduled to pick up our Ollie on 12 February which may also prove to be pretty cold. We are planning to do some cold weather camping in that area for several days and put all systems to the test. We've been caught in some cold weather before for short periods of time but never planned to do any cold weather camping....should be a good test for us and the camper!

We will be heading to warmer weather camping (Florida) after that for several weeks.

We stayed at the Natchez Trace RV park ...

We took delivery of our trailer yesterday. Because of the unusual weather, a large portion of the Natchez Trace road was closed & locals highly discouraged driving on the part still open. We stayed at the Fall Hollow B&B, which was fine, nothing fancy, but it's clean & the breakfasts are delicious! They're only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for dinner so we didn't get to experience that. Noel, the new owner, (2 years?) is a gracious host.

I'll confess, I wimped out & we didn't stay in our trailer the first night. It was FOUR degrees. What can I say, I've lived in FLA my whole life & have never experienced temps that cold.  We're in it now at Wind Creek State Park in Alabama, it's 22 degrees & I'm as comfy as can be.

Chris & Duke, it was surprisingly cold here, too. Yesterday, temps in the 20s and a leaking water truck caused black ice on the Veterans Expressway, leading to a crash and shutdown of a portion of southbound lanes.

First time I have heard of black ice in Tampa in almost 40 years of living here.

Congratulations on your new camper! Wishing you many miles of smiles.
