Moderators topgun2 Posted September 15, 2023 Moderators Posted September 15, 2023 Please join us! This morning I counted the number of guests versus the number of members on the Forum. 138 guests versus 7 members! Just think of all the additional information, history, advice, knowledge, interesting stories that exists and could be shared. You can make this Forum so much more valuable than it already is! Joining us is simple, easy and we go to great lengths to not share and protect what little information is needed. Left click on "online users" and start counting. Right now there are 10 members signed in 140 guests. Dave and Kimberly Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 I'm with you on that Rick... regularly here... but rarely have something original or useful to contribute. That said... I think I'm nearly an Oliver RV specialist (🙃) with all the things I've investigated based on the problems and most importantly, the solutions that others have experienced with their Ollies. My goal is to resolve as many problems at home so that they don't happen while traveling. We just came home from 10 weeks traveling to the PNW and now back in driveway. Here, I have fixed the chintzy little (twice broken) plastic toilet flange with a stronger metal one. Then I finally got to inspect the gears and replace the grease in (all three) of the stabilizer gear boxes. This has been something I've wanted to do since JD's post on the subject. Knowing how to do things like resetting the refrigerator, cleaning the sail switch on the furnace or resetting the Truma hot water heater (after accidentally putting it into "clean mode"), understanding the EMS error codes and about a dozen other things are game changers because of what I've learned from all the forum contributors. I like to say "I'm busy fixing things that aren't broke... before they get worse." I hope I don't get thrown out because I don't post often! I think I'm an official signed in "member"? Dave and Kimberly Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 Oh... and I've often wanted to say thanks to Topgun2 (Bill) for giving me a great tour of all the little ideas you showed me on your trailer. Ours was only about a week old at the point and we didn't know much at all at that point. Since then I've incorporated several of them! Bill and Linda Ruble were a big help to us at that first Oliver Rally... helping us to understand "everything black tank and how to maintain it". The combined experience of this group...and know how (oftentimes from their long careers in technical fields) makes this group MORE HELPFUL than even the Oliver service people and I think they are great... but personal experience with these trailers in the real world is pretty hard thing to beat. 1 2 2022 Elite II, Hull #1097 Elli Rose 🌹 and she has the solar panels with the 390Ah lithium batteries. Understood. Frank's practice surely accounts for a lot of the guest activity. Personal preference, no biggie. What's interesting to me is this: So, there's (maybe) 1,450 Oliver hulls manufactured to date, assuming that most of those (but not 100%) of those owners are members - who are the other 6,667 forum members? And what are they looking for online? Potential buyers? General RV/Camper enthusiasts? Spouses of owners? One-time sign ups/Zero returns? All the above? At first glance, I guess it shows the folks at Hohenwald that there's a market base out there for the product. A lot of trailers are on their second or third owner, so those trailers would have 2 or 3 forum members. Others join to look and get info before they order a trailer - some order and some don’t. Some are members while their trailer is being built. As far as I know once someone is registered they stay a member even if they sell and never log back on. I can remember some years ago when if we got 20 online it was a big deal! Times have changed! Mike 4 Texas Hill Country | 2016 Elite II #135 | 2020 Ram 2500 6.7L
SomeDaySoon Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I have been a regular browser of the forum as a guest for quite some time now. I don't own a travel trailer or any sort of RV. I do, however, dream of travelling with an Oliver trailer and seeing all there is to see in Canada and the USA. My wife wonders why I visit the forum. As I see it, lots of people buy lottery tickets and dream of what they will do if they win. I skip the ticket buying and go straight to the forum to dream about hitting the road with an Ollie in tow! Given the significant number of people visiting the forum as a guest, I might not be the only one who enjoys the forum for this reason. Yesterday I acted on Bill's invitation and I am now a registered user of the forum. I may, from time to time, be able to contribute to the discussions. I am very familiar with national parks in Canada, having lived and worked in them for many years. Perhaps I may be able to provide a bit of trip planning advice to someone considering a trip north of the 49th parallel? Despite my chosen user name, Oliver ownership, for me, is not likely to happen "someday soon". 2 6
Moderators Mike and Carol Posted September 23, 2023 Moderators Posted September 23, 2023 Welcome! Hopefully it won’t be too much longer than SomeDaySoon. Hanging around here will help prepare you for whenever your Oliver adventures begin. We’d like to do some parks in Canada, it’s nice to know we have someone familiar with them. Moderators topgun2 Posted September 24, 2023 Author Moderators Posted September 24, 2023 SomeDaySoon - Thank you for joining - it wasn't really very difficult (Was it?). Certainly we can use any help that you are willing to provide to include your knowledge of Canada's National Parks. If your goal really is to see all there is in Canada and the USA - I'd strongly recommend that you get started. Every single time I hit the road I see something new and that's even if I go back to the same place that I've been before. Simply put - there is not enough time and the sooner you get to it I'm guessing that there will be even more for you to find. If there is anything that we can do to help your journey - please - ask. Moderators topgun2 Posted September 25, 2023 Author Moderators Posted September 25, 2023 So, there we were yesterday morning.... sitting in a booth having breakfast only an hours drive from the beach where we had just spent a nice quiet week enjoying the surf, waves, reading, and all things relaxing. First we noticed just how loud the diner's "music" was. Next we noticed just how BAD the music was. This resulted in a conversation about how our parents didn't appreciate OUR music just as we were not appreciating whatever this stuff was blaring from the overhead speakers. Certainly the Beatles could not compare to Frank! There was nothing in that 60's and 70's music that cold compare to Big Bands or even classical for that matter. I don't even know the name of that "screech owl" I was being forced to listen to, but, I do know that my music was real music and it was and is better!😁 2 2023 Ford F150 Lariat 3.5EB FX4 Max Towing, Max Payload, 2016 Oliver Elite II - Hull #117 "Twist" Near Asheville, NC
