Motor Trend does range testing with a Tesla and a U-Haul trailer.

“Towing with electric vehicles is a fraught conversation even though only a minority of Americans actually use their vehicles for towing on any regular basis. Regardless, it has become a goalpost for EV acceptance in the market for some people. By now, it shouldn't be news that towing with an EV reduces range, just as it does when towing with a combustion-powered vehicle. It shouldn't surprise you, then, that our new Tesla Model Y doesn't go very far when towing a trailer.”

2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range Yearlong Review: How Far Can You Tow With a Tesla?

Nothing earth shattering in the article, but they do provide some interesting range figures.

The Riven does a bit better.  But frankly I am surprised that Tesla offers a trailer hitch.

None the less, not a suitable TV for our long distance towing with an Ollie.  But we can only imagine what will be the case in the future as the battery densities get much better than todays.

Sadly this would seem to be a hail disaster like the AS's have become.

Wow!

Really?

Can one of those tow one of those? (legally)

Bill

p.s.  I know nothing about EV and/or Tesla's.  But, it simply doesn't even look right.

Might be a y, not easy to tell from photo, but y capacity is still only 3600. The stout electric motors can surely pull more, but at what long and short range expense. Def not an x, based on door handle configuration.

Not a safe combo for that big airstream, imo.

We have a hitch on our tesla x, but choose not to tow. We have two perfectly capable trucks. Predictable.

Battery chemistry continues to evolve. We'll all see what the future brings, if we're lucky enough to live so long.

Crank down the pressure on the WDH to bend the chassis on that EV! The single axle AS sure looks big in that picture. Tow capacity is one spec, but in this case, it is the length of the lever. Go over train tracks quickly, with this rig, and it's the EV that would bounce as the AS stays grounded!
